Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted? Interior design was something that inspired me since the time I was 12 years old. Interior consultants fascinated me like magicians! What was your “aha!” moment? When I got to do my first solo residential project. Did you ever consider or experience a career change? Never! I would be lost, miserable and purposeless, if I stopped practicing what I do. However, I have diversified into other business ventures and will continue to do so. When was time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it? I felt discouraged when a reputable company stole a client very sneakily. It made me so mad! Lack of ethics in this country makes me loose hope and get discouraged but I learnt to let go by being a bigger person and handling the situation gracefully. What was the best advice that your mentor gave you? Do it with passion or don’t do it at all..
The stress of multi tasking and managing responsibilities will age you before time. And if you are a working mom, finding the right balance will be a big struggle. Name on boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you? My ex boss Naheed Mashooqullah. She is my mentor, I call her ‘Guru’. She inspires me professionally and also on a personal level. Describe a day in your life. Oh dear! School runs in the morning, site visits or factory visits, non stop physical exhaustion post work with toddlers, bedtime ritual, read, dinner with hubby and pass out. I do however take out time to research new business possibilities every day.
“THE STRESS OF MULTI TASKING AND MANAGING RESPONSIBILITIES WILL AGE YOU BEFORE TIME. AND IF YOU ARE A WORKING MOM, FINDING THE RIGHT BALANCE WILL BE A BIG STRUGGLE.”
What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life? My babies, my work, and mental health. What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list? Northern lights in Iceland. What does nobody tell you about being the boss?
Complete this sentence: To me, a #BossLady is…” Someone who is comfortable in her own skin, confident and does not feel threatened by any individual. What did you learn from your biggest failure? That life is nothing but a ball of unpredictability and one must learn to have a thick skin to survive and let each failure burn the passion in you to grow stronger & feistier.
Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with? No one. However if I could go back into time, I would love to meet our country’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah. What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours? You may have all the reasons why it wont work but you only need just one why it will. There is no passion in playing small so don’t limit your dreams. It is the only fuel for success. 2018

GRILLED CHICKEN & QUINOA SALAD WITH FETA This healthy salad makes a delicious mid week salad, and the leftovers are great for lunches too. What was your biggest fear when going out and starting your own line? Whether people will accept our brand’s ideology or not? Initially I wasn’t quite sure about the response we were going to get. What is your favorite part about being a designer? I love being my own boss. How do you want women to feel when wearing your clothes? I want them to feel empowered! What do you usually think about when you’re alone in your car? I’m usually contemplating about my new collection. What's the most outrageous piece of fashion advice you've ever received? Use a blow dryer to break in new shoes. As a child what did you want to be when you grew up? I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer! If you had to pick one comfort food and design an entire collection around it, what would it be and why? Desserts! Since one can play around with different flavours and colours. You're stranded on a desert island and can only bring five things from your closet — what do you grab? Sunglasses, a T cap, bermudas, oversized cotton shirt and sandals! Name one style rule you think all women should break. The monotony in their daily wardrobe, one should break free from it and experiment as much as they can. Do you have any fashion pet peeves? Cold shoulders and peplum tops! 2018

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? We visited family in Toronto. This city is such a wondrous place where people are so warm and welcoming, you can’t not keep coming back! Who did you travel with? My mama and two of my siblings. Where did you stay? We stayed in a Studio on Richmond West. It was smack in the middle of downtown, Toronto. If you’re looking to visit, definitely consider this area because everything will be within walking distance.
travel diaries
Suggest some amazing restaurants there? My absolute favorite would be Pai. It was actually just a block from where I was staying. I’m a sucker for Thai food and I’ve never had such authentic Thai food away from Thailand before so I kept going back. Another great and popular Thai restaurant was sabai sabai. The Dirtybird Chicken was another top choice. It was just how I remembered it, fried to a crisp, delicious and oozing in authentic Canadian Maple syrup! Also the Korean Barbecue, there is something so fulfilling about cooking your own food. Kbbq is very famous and you’ll find one on every block! Just order your meat and sides and cook away over the blazing stove on your table.

What can you do over there to relax and unwind? I found walking by the board walk very serene and peaceful. It stretches for miles by the water and i would just read my book and watch the sunset by the water. Where I was staying, there was this dance studio on the top floor of the building across me. I never got the time to take a class but seeing them dance their hearts away each day, made me feel like it was an experience I missed. You can also go visit their dodgeball trampoline park - if physical exertion helps you unwind. Tips? I’d say put on your walking shoes and a pair of sunglasses, fix your headphones and create a playlist - because that’s all you need to do in order to discover the beauty that lies within this place. Every corner you turn you’ll find art that tells a story! And the people are so friendly, not for a minute will you feel lost or alone. Especially if you’re a Lahori - chances are you’ll run into a friend from back home randomly on the streets. Yep, happened almost everyday!

Suggest places for a perfect night out? Great place to go would be the Cabana Pool Bar - they have a view that overlooks the water and skyline of Toronto. If you’re looking for a more laidback vibe, then visit The Parlor - It has a great ambience and even better music playing! Cruz and Tango is a little unconventional for some but my visit to this drag bar was definitely a night of pure fun, laughter and singing along at the top of my lungs Yuk Yuk’s stand up comedy is where international comedians perform every week. Lastly, The Distillery district is a
pedestrian only area and you are sure to fall in love with its cobblestone streets lined with rich history, music, art and food.
travel diaries
Tell us about sites no one should miss out on? The Harbourfront and Cherry beach if you’re a fan of being by the water. Kensington Market is where you’ll find a more laidback retro vibe with great little cafes and food joints. On Queens you’ll find the famous Graffiti Alley which stretches on for a few blocks. Dundas Square is like a mini Times Square. Definitely the most happening place is downtown where you can shop, enjoy the view over Jack Astor’s balcony and often witness magical street performances!
