Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted? It’s something I always aspired towards. What was your “aha!” moment? When we managed to open 30 Sana Safinaz shops. It’s humbling yet drives me to want more. Did you ever consider or experience a career change? Never! I love what I do and I’m grateful every day for what I do. When was time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it? The backlash from our Africa campaign was a low point because our intention was misunderstood. The experience made me learn to push forward and keep trying to do my best. What was the best advice that your mentor gave you? To diversify from high end to high street fashion.
Describe a day in your life Work, work, work and more work! Complete this sentence: To me, a #BossLady is…” Sensitive to others needs yet aware of the task at hand. What did you learn from your biggest failure? Dust your knees and get right back up .
“To be focused and persistent. Grades aren’t everything different people shine in different ways. Never lose heart.”
Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with? Barack Obama because he’s relatable and casual yet inspiring and accomplished. What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours? To be focused and persistent. Grades aren’t everything, different people shine in different ways. Never lose heart!
What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life? My daughter, my family and my husband What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list? To climb Mount Kilimanjaro! What does nobody tell you about being the boss? How hard it is and how rewarding it can be. Name on boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you? Sheryl sandberg and her emotional journey through life.

syra sheikh talks about her love for filmmaking, her future projects and her experience at film festivals.
• Is it harder to get started or to keep going? What was the particular thing that you had to conquer to do either? Focus on your goals, take risks and never look back. • How did you come up with your first film “Golden Ticket”? I was selected for Cinemadamare Film Festival, Italy 2016 & 2017 as a Director, Editor & Costume Designer. Cinemadamare is a traveling campus where you travel northern to eastern region of Italy. Throughout the festival we can use different location for our films. So I availed this opportunity and shot the film in Borgia, Italy. • It got its first international official Selection at Cefalu Film Festival in Italy, tell us a little about it? Golden Ticket got its first nomination for short films category, at “Cefalù Film Festival - Pino Scicolone 2018”, Italy. I was speechless, and humbled as my first film, it means so much to me. Recently the film was screened at Asia Peace Film Festival – Karachi Edition 2018. • What role have film festivals played in your life so far? Why are they necessary? Film festivals help filmmakers to promote their work within the industry. There are many different types of film festivals, some focus on international and domestic releases; others focus on different film genres or subject matter. It is quite motivating. I always look forward to interacting with filmmakers at international festivals. • What was the most important lesson you had to learn that has had a positive effect on your film? I believe when you travel alone you are your only savior and you need to believe in yourself and God. Overall in our daily life
this rule also applies. We need strong beliefs to achieve our desired goals. Also I tried to put my best efforts to communicate a positive message through my film. • Why do you think there are so few women in filmmaking? It’s basically the mind set and the social impact that doesn’t let women rise. But year by year, the numbers are increasing and things are getting better. • Your hand painted postcard will be unveiled at Strathnairn Arts Gallery, Canberra, Australia – how did that come about? My hand painted art work (postcard) unveiled on April 5th-29th, 2018 at Strathnairn Arts Gallery, Canberra, Australia. You feel honored when you exhibit your art/ work with different artists and receive the overwhelming response, globally. • How do you manage to handle so many different roles as a publicist, a filmmaker and now as a freelance member of Open Window Creative Solution? I am a Gemini, so I am born for multitasking. I love my job and enjoy every single role in my life whether I’m working as an artist, filmmaker or a publicist. • What films have been the most inspiring or influential to you and why? It keeps changing! I have so many favourites – in different genres and often by totally different directors. But some remarkable films that come to my mind are; The Grand Budapest Hotel, Beauty and the Beast, The Lord of the Rings, Don’t Breathe, 3 Idiots and Padmavat but there are so many more! • What does the future hold for you? Nobody knows about the future, but I do have few scripts in my head to execute and I believe I will be in better place with more international achievements while sharing and creating more work. • What advice do you have for any young/ aspiring directors who want to get started? The film industry needs to grow, be more experimental, creative and most importantly original. We should involve younger people with positive energy. In a country like Pakistan where we are increasing the number of films every year, there is always room for new voices. 2018

Our fab astrologer Zahid Haider, styles up your stars. Find out what’s in store for you this week!
For your in-depth weekly forecast call 0322-757-5219 E-mail: happyhaider65@gmail.com
ARIES (MAR. 21- APRIL 20) Too many projects to complete might have you feeling just a little bit pressured, Aries. However, your innate determination is likely to drive you on to try to get it all done even if it seems impossible. TAURUS (APR. 21- MAY 21) The current celestial configuration makes this a day for those who are true romantics at heart. You can feel justified in making as many wonderful gestures as you like to the one who you adore most in the world. GEMINI (MAY 22-JUNE 21) The astral energy indicates positive financial news. A settlement, grant, or bonus of some kind that you’ve anticipated for a long time may finally manifest. You might want to celebrate, Gemini. CANCER (JUNE 22-JULY 22) The current astral alignment may mean that you feel deeply attracted to one particular person at a party or social event this evening. LEO (JULY 23-AUG 22) Don’t worry too much about how your date will go tonight, because the chances are that with today’s celestial energies, it will all go very well. There is very tender and sweet atmosphere in the air, VIRGO (AUG 23-SEPT 23) The current aspect at play may mean that you have an opportunity to share your tender feelings with the person who has recently stolen your heart. LIBRA (SEPT 24-OCT 23) There is ample opportunity to spread your wings and soar into romantic heaven, with today’s astral energy. If you are already in a permanent relationship, then you will find ways to strengthen the bond between you, and to be thankful for the gifts you bring to each other.
SCORPIO (OCT 24-NOV 22) Today’s planetary configuration means that you may feel more emotional today than you have for some time. You will be very aware that you have a great deal of feeling for one person in particular, and although you may have tried to rationalize this away, right now it is just not possible SAGITTARIUS (NOV 23-DEC 21) You need water in order to germinate and grow seeds, and you also need love in order for relationships to blossom and develop. The current celestial energy encourages you to share your deeper feelings with someone special, CAPRICON (DEC 22-JAN 20) Ethereal Neptune turns retrograde in your sector of communication on Monday, so the coming weeks and months could bring insights into a situation that has eluded you. If you get a glimmer of understanding about what’s going on, this is the time to do something about it. Don’t leave it until it’s too late. AQUARIUS (JAN 21-FEB 19) Today’s astral configuration is great for romance. There is a natural warmth, compassion, and understanding in the air that enables people to make progress in all kinds of relationships, but especially love affairs. PISCES (FEB 20-MAR 20) Today’s alignment of the planets may mean that you now know just how much someone feels about you, as they will find the courage today to finally let you know. This will be most reassuring, as you probably found it hard to work out quite what was going on inside them,
