Who is Savaiba? A Daughter, Sister, Educator, Blogger, Television contributor, Dietitian, Healthy cook and CEO of Million Things on my to-do list having to do with being a Student trying to finish her MPhil thesis ASAP! Describe yourself in 3 words. 1. Fun and Loads and Loads of fun, like you’ll always end up having a good time with me. 2. Food, Foodie, Food Fanatic and what not, where there is food there is Savaiba. 3. Fearless, I know how to stand up for myself and you’ll find me up for new challenges.ALWAYS. Tell us a bit about your education? Undergrad at Kinnaird College Lahore (I did study Food Science and Human Nutrition there, but didn’t start much of my healthy eating – by then!). MPhil in Food Science and Human Nutrition, Kinnaird College Lahore (Just getting over the last bits and pieces of my thesis and living by a craaa-zzy life mantra of eat empowered) How did you pursue becoming a nutritionist? What was your inspiration? Studying nutrition seemed the right choice for me. It combined my love of food with my nerdy interest in science and a super strong desire to help people around me. Inspiration well I guess the cliché saying “An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away” just gave me that AHA moment where I felt if food is medicinal why not study food and ditch medicine.
How important is eating healthy? And looking after yourself? It’s not all about food at all. In the last year of my work, when I used to ask people about their sleep patterns, or about the number of cigarettes they smoked, or even about stress they sometimes looked at me like I was craaaa-zy. Times have changed a bit (now they just raise an eyebrow) and people are faster to accept and embrace what I call “A healthy Lifestyle”. Well, it’s simple if you eat well, you sleep well. When you sleep well, you eat well, you have more energy to work out and when you work out you sleep better and you have a good mood and the cycle goes on… This has always been the core of my practice. Would you give us some tips on eating healthy and staying fit? Definitely, let’s talk about some tips that every single one of us can follow: 1. Eat loads of seasonal fresh vegetables and fruits. Why? Because they are low in calories and high in fiber which means you’ll eat less and be full quickly as they have a bulking capability from the fiber. They are filled with loads and loads of nutrients that are good for your skin, hair and overall health. 2. Try to cook at home and ENJOY home cooked meals more often. Its hygienic, portions can be controlled and quality can never be compromised. 3. Eat to enjoy food and make you feel satisfied not to stuff yourself with everything available. 4. Keep yourself well hydrated, especially in
summers. Forget the 8 glass daily rule and drink at least 10 to 12 glasses in summers. 5. Take a palm size protein daily but lean protein. Always ask your butcher to cut all excess fat of it. I know, I know you won’t get the chaska without it but it’s better to miss that sometimes than to have high lipid profile or coronary diseases. 6. After all the eating and drinking we must now burn some calories off and for that do a 15 minute warm up followed by 45 minutes of workout at least 4 times a week. What’s your favorite type of food? I think I was born an omnivore so any food that has protein. Any form and any type of protein. I believe my salad or my curry and even rice look sad if they don’t have a little bit of Protein in them. Do you follow your fitness motto? To the maximum extent I would say, Not completely though as I am a work in progress too. I have pretty decent eating habits Alhamdulillah, just falling little short on the physical activity part because of the busy schedules. Though I still manage to walk daily *just trying to make the maximum of the last pleasant weather days* What would you like to say to our followers? “If you have nothing but love for your avocados and you take joy in turning them into guacamole, all you need is someone to share it with.” – Jason Mraz
