Costume Jewellery has taken a massive turn in the fashion scene and it's all about making a statement. Karachi has been hit by some really cool jewellery brands with, up until a year ago, designs one could only dream of buying in the city, or wait for a trip out of town to fill the void for bling and sparkle in our lives. We got in touch with OutHouse, Allure, Prerto and Esfir to find out more about uniqueness of their brands and more importantly how we can get our hands on their gorgeous jewellery.
Outhouse by Sana Hafeez Instagram: @outhousejewellery
• Tell us a little bit about Outhouse and how did you manage to bring it here? I was fortunate enough to have a friend who knew and subsequently put me in touch with the driving force and founders of OutHouse Jewelry Kaabia and Sasha Grewal. Soon after I was chosen to be their official brand representative in Pakistan and in 2014 I brought my first OutHouse collection to Karachi to test the market and was met with a tremendously positive response! Since then I have held several exhibitions each one bigger in terms of the volume of pieces shown and sold and the turnout. It keeps going from strength to strength. As I work at Sana Safinaz its been wonderful to have forged an official collaboration between the two brands as they really do compliment each other. This has been in the form of several fashion shows and campaign shoots. The brand continues to grow in popularity here and there is a great demand for it which is both humbling and gratifying. • What got you interested in it in the first place? As a child I admired the beautiful and intricate vintage jewelry worn my by mother and my aunts. By the time I was in college I had started borrowing my mother’s pieces and relished wearing them. Ever since then I have been an avid collector of statement costume jewelry, which is how I came to know about Outhouse. I fell in love with the brand and had acquired multiple pieces from their collections. • How is Outhouse different from other statement or costume jewellery brands? ‘Pushing The Envelope of Design’ is our philosophy alongside our initiative to keep creating innovative and stimulating pieces. This is what keeps us at the forefront. We offer a distinctly eclectic mix of designs which redefine the way fashion jewelry is looked at by constantly challenging what is accepted. What sets us apart us is our unique aesthetic which is a mix of 28

design, innovation and functionality coupled with our brand value which has developed a sterling reputation. We strive to provide women from every part of the world a selection of high quality, hand finished, Modern and Contemporary Jewellery at affordable prices. This is the essence of OutHouse Jewellery. • Where do your designs take inspiration from? Every single OutHouse piece aims to be a piece of art which strives to emulate a variety of heritage and culture. Our design process involves us sitting together and brainstorming in a room full of inspirational content that we gather ranging from pictures of our fashion idols to music artists and vintage accents. We also love mixing materials and textures, so you will always find random items lying around our office. Being globe trotters, we take a lot of inspiration from our travels around the world – from the current fashion trends to an overall cultural heritage and feel. What also helps to give our jewelry an eccentric vibe is our varied sensibilities and personal styles of dramatic & edgy yet classic & wearable. • Where can one find your pieces available to buy? Stock is available at the residence of Sana Hafeez Sheikh official brand rep of Outhouse Jewellery in Pakistan by appointment as well as at the various exhibitions she hosts. Stay tuned for the next one! • What is your favourite piece from your latest collection? Our favourite must have piece from our current collection has to be “The Dragon Fly” Choker. A couture signature piece from our Illusions collection which, as the name suggests, was inspired by the dragon fly. The piece features a swarovski motif with one pearl and stunning crystal channel setting along the veins that form the base of the choker.
Allure by Mehreen Tabani Instagram: @allurebymht
• When did you start Allure? I started this business more than 3 years ago. Allurebymht is solely my brainchild and it is not a franchise. . • What got you interested in jewellery making in the first place? I have always been an avid collector of semi precious stones and both real and costume jewellery. Owing to the security concerns in karachi, most of our real jewellery lies in vaults and bank lockers and only comes out on rare occasions. This was the idea behind my brand... To offer statement pieces that could jazz up the simplest outfits, but at affordable prices.
• Where can one find your pieces available to buy? We keep doing exhibitions and also take take orders through facebook and instagram :) • Share with us your favourite must have piece from your current collection. My favourite must have pieces from our current collection are the baroque pearl pendants with 2 tone chains as well the palm cuff in yummy colours.
• What makes you different from the other brands? The things that makes us different from other costume or statement jewellery brands is the fact that we constantly come up with new and different pieces rather than waiting for seasons, keeping abreast with ongoing trends, but at very competitive prices. • Where do your designs take inspiration from? Inspiration is always around us. From truck arts to fashion magazines to internet and custom designing for my customers has always provided me with ideas! I try and pick up stones and beads that catch my eye both locally and abroad, and then incorporate them in feasable designs. The concept of beauty is what we want to evoke through our jewels. 2016

Esfir by Tasbih and Hafsa Instagram: @esfirjewels
• How did Esfir come about? Esfir was mine and Hafsa’s brainchild, and was the product of many sleepless nights, endless brain storming sessions and adventurous trips around Karachi. We had our launch exhibition in March, so we’re still fairly new. • What got you interested in jewellery in the first place? Well, it really started off because we’re both obsessed with jewelry, so it was just natural that this would be the next step. When we moved back to Karachi, we also realized that there were very limited avenues to buy the kind of statement jewelry that we liked, so we took the plunge and decided to do something different. • What makes Esfir different from the other jewelery brands? What makes us different is that we try to invent new styles rather than follow popular ones. All our pieces also reflect a fusion of east and west, which means combining modern and traditional styles to create elegant pieces that you can wear to a wedding or to a dinner party. So the versatility of the pieces, along with the fact that they are all locally produced makes us different from others. • Where do your designs take inspiration from? We take inspiration from history, art, TV, nature, our surroundings, you can get inspired from anything! • Where can one find your pieces available to buy? We currently have an online store and you can reach us through Facebook and Instagram. Our website is also under development, so stay tuned to Esfir! • Share with us your favorite/must-have piece from your collection? Two Birds and One Stone is probably our favorite piece, it comes in three colors, so you can wear it to almost any occasion. 30

Prerto by Fatima Ahmed Instagram: @prerto
• When did you start your jewellery business? I started representing Prerto jewellery about a year ago • What got you interested in it in the first place? I personally love Prerto as each piece is so unique. I travel a lot so I am exposed to a lot of different brands around the world and Prerto really distinguishes itself. It’s a great blend between eastern and western designs and can be worn with all sorts of outfits. • What makes your brand different from the other jewellery brands? Prerto has established a great reputation worldwide over the past few years. It has its own unique style and vibe to it. We have a new, exciting collection after every few months and I acquire certain custom pieces for Pakistan. I love that Prerto offers distinctive, good quality pieces at affordable prices. • Where do your designs take inspiration from? Each collection has a distinct theme to it and the designs are inspired by our surroundings. For example one of our collections seemed inspiration from the sea – the designs and names reflected corals and reefs. • Where can one find your pieces available to buy? I have exhibitions from time to time and do regular orders all year round. They can be ordered directly from me (fatimaahmedprerto@gmail.com) • Which would you say is your must have piece from your current collection. I’m in love with Prerto Jannah earrings from the newest Royal collection.

6 Lip Colours of the season
1 2 3 4 5 6
there’s no better time than summer to experiment with a brand new lip colour, it just feels right when paired with simple fresh skin, mussed-up hair and your go-to dress and sandals combo. this summer anything goes, with everything from the prettiest of pinks to candy apple and even deep berry tones.
@annasbeautymark
candy apple
The colour one needs to know for the 2016 looks is the snow white red apple hue. They’re classic. They’re love. They’re Chic. The next thing to know is how to wear it this beautiful season; it’s the most versatile colour. Festive for a black tie affair, flirty with a floral sun dress, or chic paired with skinny jeans and a T-shirt. My favorite tip is to let your lips be the star, go softer with the rest of your make-up. Try a nude eye, black eyeliner, mascara and a little blush.
baby pink Sweet, gorgeous and so much fun- this girly colour makes the perfect summer statement. While we’re all about a rosy sundress or a pretty pink accessory, lately we’re loving it on lips! Try the Barbie look this summer! Go strong with your lashes make them as dramatic as possible, pink blusher and your favourite baby pink lipstick. You can’t go wrong with this one!
nude
Nude natural lipstick is one of those natural beauty essentials that every girl needs in her makeup kit! In lazy days of summer, what could be more desirable in looking great in next to nothing? When it comes to nudes, the right formula is crucial, nude lipsticks should never be matte or opaque those will make you look pasty and washed out. It needs to be sheer with a slight sheen. If you’re fair, opt for pink undertones; if you’re tan or have darker skin, opt one with an orange undertone.
coral
Is there any shade that screams “summer” more than coral? The intensity of bright orange combined with the wearability of pink, coral lips work with literally every skintone… as well as being heaps of fun! Keep your blush and eye makeup in the same colour family, otherwise your whole beauty look will clash, opt for gold or copper eyes, for blush keep it peachy!
clear lip glass
When it comes to getting the perfect summer pout, a little extra shine can go a long way. Sheer lip glosses enhance your natural lip colour when applied over a daring lipstick hue, they add dimension and just the right amount of glamour. To get the perfect look be dramatic with your eyes.. smash that mascara on and bring the pinky cheeks out!
plum it up!
A plum lip, no matter the undertone, is a statement and a strong one at that, so my advice is to wear it like you’re going to own the room because everyone will be looking at you! So get that attention this summer and rock on! If you’re rocking a bold lip, you don’t want to upstage it with very heavy eyes or cheeks. Opt for white lined eyes but don’t be afraid to layer on those falsies and a shimmery shadow for a fresh faced look!

planes, trains & automobiles
Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? I chose Greece as my holiday destination as It had been on my holiday list for quite some time. The beautiful views of santorini are very tempting! We couldn't fit all the places we wanted to visit in Greece, due to the limited number of days we had, so we picked Mykonos, Paros and Santorini to start with. Who did you travel with? I always do a summer vacation with my holiday crew- myself, Ahmen khawaja, Deena Rahman and Nadira Amir. We are the regulars, as whoever wants to join is welcome to.
All our hotels were near the town centre as for tourists, it's the most convenient area to stay in. You have easy access to all the restaurants, bars and shopping. But our favourite was The Senia hotel in Paros. What are the best shopping spots there? I normally make it a point not to waste much time shopping when I'm on a beach holiday as I would rather be at the beach. But in Mykonos, I really liked Matoyianni street, it's really cute and fun with little shops on the side walks. The town centre of Naoussa, Paros also has little streets with local jewellery and clothing boutiques.
Where did you stay?

travel diaries Finally any tips? For the ladies- please leave your heels behind! It is quite a task walking in heels on cobblestones. Also, no point in doing a lot of research over the Internet for recommendations, just ask the locals, as they know best. And finally, the best piece of advice for group holidaystoss a coin to make decisions! It will save you guys a lot of energy and arguments!

Suggest places for a perfect night out. In Mykonos, Nammos was by far my favourite. It's a beach restaurant that turns into a club after brunch is over. Scorpios is another favourite, a beautiful lounge bar next to the beach with really good food! In Paros, since Naoussa is a really small town, you might want to stick around in the town centre and go bar hopping around the square.
travel diaries
Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on? Greece, in general is beautiful. But santorini hands down has some breathtaking views. The sunset view in Imerovigli, is something you don't want to miss either! I would also highly recommend the day cruise in santorini which takes you island hopping. And in Paros, the Kolimbithres beach is a must go. The water was purple!
What can you do there to relax and unwind. The best part about Greece for me were the beaches. Just go to the beach, put your phones away, get a body massage and take a nap. It can't get better than that!
travel diaries
Suggest some amazing restaurants there? The food in Greece generally is incredible, so it's hard to pick a favourite. But one of my favourites were Nammos and Scorpios in Mykonos. The food and the vibe was amazing. In Paros, a local restaurant in the town centre, Salt was our favourite. And in Santorini, Oozora, a Peruvian restaurant.

Your week should get off to an explosive start -- in a good way! Monday suits your adventurous spirit perfectly, as you find exciting and unexpected opportunities for meeting new people and trying new things. Watch for the pace to slow back down, though, by Monday evening and on into Wednesday. You'll need to rely on your (yes, ample) charms rather than your can-do attitude to make things happen. On Thursday and Friday, expect a flurry of communication, in person, on the phone or over email. You'll need to think fast to keep up. This weekend, take a break from your harried mental state by spending some time with family.
Take your time! Put faith in your usual pattern of patience as the week begins -even if you're feeling the urge to jump the gun on Monday. From Monday evening on through Wednesday, you won't need to hold back at all. You're full of energy and enthusiasm, which could turn out to be a very attractive combination. On Thursday and Friday, focus on short-term schedules and details. It's not a good time to make any long-term commitments (especially financial ones). This weekend, take a risk and let others know how you feel.
Seek out the advice of good friends (and even work associates) as the week begins. You've got good instincts on Monday, but you'll have even more luck hitting the mark with a little friendly guidance. From Monday evening on through Wednesday, you'll need to fight your more flighty qualities. Flitting around from conversation to conversation is still okay, but just make sure you pause to concentrate on any obstacles that crop up. Thursday and Friday aren't good days for follow-through, but they should provide plenty of opportunities for high-minded debate and discussion (and maybe even some flirtation, too). This weekend, don't get moody if you can't get what you want.
Your brain is still in high gear as the week begins. Expect to have a quick wit and a sharp memory on Monday -- but just be sure you think before you speak. That mental might should transform into irresistible charm on Monday night and continue on through Wednesday. Use that boost in charisma to socialize, especially in large groups. Others will look to you to take the lead. On Thursday and Friday, take a walk on the wild side. You need to challenge expectations and try something new. This weekend, you've got the energy and confidence to accomplish anything.

Start your week off by learning something -- or meeting someone -- entirely new. Monday should provide unexpected opportunities to challenge your own opinions and you'd do well to take them. From Monday evening through Wednesday, you might find yourself obsessing over ego and status. A little healthy self-confidence is a good thing, of course, but just make sure you're doing things for the right reasons (i.e., not just to show off). Thursday and Friday are both good days to meet up with friends and engage in some wild-eyed brainstorming, even if nothing actually gets accomplished. This weekend, follow your intuition. Your unconscious thoughts will guide the way.
Get in touch with your true sense of purpose as the week begins. Monday should give you a good chance to pause, reflect and embrace your priorities anew -- but be aware that your renewed perspective could bring you into conflict with others. From Monday night and on through Wednesday, look for chances to travel and expand your outlook, even if it's just a short (or even metaphorical) journey. On Thursday and Friday, use your finely tuned intellect to tackle a pesky problem, but just take care to make sure you communicate clearly. This weekend, enjoy some socializing but look to others for support (especially women and family members).
Be careful in your relationships as the week begins. Monday will present you with some interesting choices (in work and possibly romance, too) and you'll need to work hard to strike a balance between selfishness and selflessness. From Monday evening and on through Wednesday, your famous grace and diplomacy will take center stage. Expect admiration and applause -- but expect for your skills at arbitration and alliancebuilding to be called on, too. On Thursday and Friday, don't go it alone. Find people to share your thoughts with -- especially if that involves taking a risk or trying something new. This weekend, keep your head down and stick to the program.
Look out for conflict as the week begins. Monday could find you butting heads with someone who doesn't share your point of view, but a little selflessness on your part could defuse the situation. From Monday evening through Wednesday, you might still find yourself at odds with the ideas and agendas of others, but the competition is apt to be much more good-natured and spirited. Fight a good fight, but be willing to find a compromise, too. On Thursday and Friday, read the fine print. The devil is in the details right now, especially where risks are involved. This weekend, surrender control and go with the flow.

Count on getting a lot done as this week begins. Your usual carefree attitude will be eclipsed by a big burst of energy on Monday, so you can't help but be productive. From Monday evening and on through Wednesday, your cheerful adaptability will be put to the test, as you're called on to juggle countless details and demands. On Thursday and Friday, don't worry if you can't seem to get much done. Words can be even more effective than actions right now. This weekend, follow your mood and don't back down from difficult questions.
Put a priority on family and history as the week begins. Monday should find you reflecting on your big-picture legacy -- and figuring out how you can ensure safety and stability in the long term. From Monday evening through Wednesday, your creativity should climb, helping you find innovative ways to get things done and have some fun at the same time. Thursday and Friday are both good days for making yourself clear -- so don't hesitate to close down rambling discussions and cut to the chase. This weekend, deal with the issues at hand and don't take any criticism personally.

Expect your head to be filled with downright electrical ideas and inspiration as the week begins -- and Monday should prove an excellent time to put some of these amazing discoveries into action. Your preoccupation with peculiar and intriguing ideas should continue through Wednesday, even if all you're really doing is keeping yourself from getting bored. On Thursday and Friday, watch for a little romance to keep things interesting, especially if it involves an intellectual connection that turns to flirtation. This weekend, tend to the details and stick to the routine.
Mystery swirls around you as the week begins. Monday could find you faced with riddles to solve and puzzles to piece together, but nothing you can't handle. From Monday evening through Wednesday, express your more affectionate, compassionate side, whether that means making a romantic dinner or just telling someone special how you feel. On Thursday and Friday, don't let anybody nail you down to anything specific. You need to maintain your emotional and mental flexibility right now. This weekend, the world is your stage and others can't wait to attend your performance.
