you gotta have faith Adnan sarwar i was excited with the pros pect of bein g able to tell an amazin g s tory and pay homage to one of the greates t ath letes th is co untry has ever produced . Racing fanatic, musician, producer, director and actor Adnan Sarwar, the man of many talents, has us impressed like no other. We met up with him earlier this month in Karachi to talk about his new feature film, Shah, his transition from being a musician to an actor and what's next for him. Here's what he had to say: Describe what music is to you. How did you start club caramel? Music was and will always be my first love. I started playing the guitar and writing songs at a young age but never got around to releasing anything. I met Kiran Chuadhry in 2006 and as soon as we jammed, I knew we had to put a band together. Why did you want to transition from being a musician to an actor? As an artist, one always tries to explore new horizons and find new challenges. When the opportunity to act in and direct a feature film came around, as daunting as the task was, I was excited with the prospect of being able to tell an amazing story and pay Photography: Ayaz Anis

homage to one of the greatest athletes this country has ever produced. Describe how you first felt when you met Mr. Shah. It was a very emotional moment and the whole country saw it due to the reach of social media. We had just met and seen the film together at the premiere. For both of us, it was a culmination of a long, difficult journey. For him, to be given his rightful place in the history of Pakistan and for me, to have been able to bring his story to the big screen despite all the difficulties we faced. We were both in tears, as were almost all of the attendees at the premiere. It was a magical moment. Why this story? How is it important to you as a person? Hussain Shah was a childhood hero of mine and when he disappeared from the public eye completely after his incredible achievements, I always used to wonder what became of him. A few years back, I got to hear his complete story and decided that this was a tale

YOU GOTTA HAVE FAITH that needed to be told to the people of Pakistan. I have struggled a lot in my own life as well and I found strength in Shah's story of how one man can battle against all odds and make his own destiny. Has the music in the movie been done by club caramel? Is there something else you can tell us about the sounds in the movie? I have written the musical score for Shah myself. I actually wrote the music long before the film production had started. Being a musician, I visualize stories as both images and music. I knew what the film would look and sound like before we rolled cameras. Unfortunately, in the end, we were hindered by budgetary and time constraints and I actually could not make the film that I wanted to make.
item songs, I think there are better ways to spend the budgets which will serve the story better at this stage. Our dance numbers are just not comparable to what is happening across the border and we have to create our own niche. That's just my opinion though. What has been the funniest moment for you while making this movie? That would be the moment I got mistaken for the tea boy by a couple of extras. We were shooting the scenes where Shah was living in abject poverty and I was living the character. A couple of girls who didnt know me were on set and asked me to go get them tea. I, of course, duly obliged and proceeded to make them tea. They found out later who I was and we all had a good laugh about it.

Do you feel that Lollywood is becoming more responsible when it comes to working within the budget or do you still feel there is need for more responsibility? What would you like to say to all the people who will go to watch this movie? There are lessons to be learnt from this story. Let us make sure that what happened to Hussain Shah is not repeated on our watch again. It is our collective responsibility as a people to give our heroes their rightful place in our society. It will only help us find our own identity. 2015

up close & personal with ayesha How did you start your Profession? Tell us about your journey? I started my career as a Nail art designer as that has always been my passion. Later I recognized my potentials were more than what I expected. This realization resulted from my search for a place to get my cosmetic treatments done. Unfortunately I didn't find what I was looking for and started my own salon to meet individual needs of my clients. So I polished myself with further trainings and professional experiences that progressively led to where I am today. My journey was a good fortune for me as things destined me towards my success. No doubt that is also result of my commitment with my work. How did your family and friends respond to your Profession? My family is always there by my side in times of utmost help. Me and my husband are also working partners and enjoy a healthy and trustworthy relationship. My mother helps me even in upbringing of my daughter. I am also blessed for living in a country like Pakistan where I get to find lots of intimate friends.

From where you get all the education and training? My education and training is a story of progressive period. I started my training of nail art from Hong Kong. Later I attended few trainings in Dubai and became a certified beautician from there as well. I also attended numerous trainings and workshops from the most renowned brand L'Oreal Professionnel eventually owning its first flagship salon in Islamabad. What you will recommend series of facials to the brides? Each woman has her own strength of beauty yet it takes a little effort to recognize it. Every bride that consult us receives a complete guideline after examining her skin type. For brides I recommend facials prior to a month of their big day.

How you looking after your Royli’s business in Pakistan? I maintained my momentum of work with strong commitment to my work. With this vision I look after my business in collaboration with a strong tea and an affectionate family. It is not hard to monitor a project or company when you have your roles assigned. We have separate departments for doing our media projection as well as dealing with financial issues. What types of hair treatments you suggests? Hair treatments vary from person to person. Each day we get to interact with different clients coming up with various issues. In general, I usually provide Keratin treatment to dry, damaged and frizzy hair and L'Oreal X-tenso to curly and wavy hair. We are also prestige with the best extensions in town and have international retailers who import our extensions. How did you find Pakistani women clients? The best part of working in Pakistan is the women who are exceptionally aware of their beauty needs. It is my pleasure to work for them as it makes a great combo of my aesthetic experimentation and their willingness to accept change. How many clients visit Royli in a day? It is hard to keep a track of the numeral result. In short, I never found myself taking a nap or enjoying a cup of tea
What is the scope for young girls in this profession? Fortunately with society's inclination for looking better, I vision a bright future for the coming generations. However, I suggest young girls to realise that there are no shortcuts. One has to stay vigilant and consistent with their work in order to mark your presence in this competitive industry. 2015
