As a society we are pretty much obsessed with losing weight and being ‘skinny’, often forgetting the importance of staying healthy and fit. Various weight loss products and customized diets have flooded the market, as it is a lucrative business. Not all have been successful nor have they produced long-term affects. But Fit-Fiber aims to kill two birds with one stone; the Glucomannan capsule helps reduce weight by reducing the absorption of fat in the body, and helps one remain fit because of the fiber content present. Here are excerpts from our conversation with these two best friends and budding entrepreneurs:

in the spotlight

anum javed & amina Sibtain BY AYEDA IFTIKHAR

the brainchild of anum javed and amina sibtain, fit-fibre aims to induce the concept of maintaining a healthy, balanced diet as well as reducing considerable amounts of weight. 28

2015

How did the idea of FitFibre come to your minds, considering your educational background is as vast as economics and politics? Amina: Well, ever since I gained weight in university I realized the need to start working out regularly and eating a proper diet. But more so, I believe that we as a society have some unhealthy eating habits, which means people resort to diets, which don’t really work. So Anum and I both wanted to come up with something that would help reduce weight but make people eat in a balanced manner. Anum: We started thinking of ways to generally help people reduce weight and be healthier without starving themselves. We started working on the project in November 2014, so after a lot of thinking and research, we came up with idea to use natural substances to produce the capsule.

Tell us more about Fit-Fibre, how does it work? Amina: Glucomannan is basically a fibre that is widely used in countries like Japan and China, where people consume it as a part of their daily diets. The idea is to control portion sizes, as the fiber expands in the stomach and gives you a fuller feeling. It is sticky so the fat starts to stick to it and as a result there is a 28% less absorption of fat. So it helps reduce cholesterol, it is insulin sensitive and glucose levels are maintained as well.

70 capsules and costs Rs. 3500 whereas, the Large pack is a month long with 150 capsules and costs Rs. 6000. Alongside the fiber capsules, we offer complimentary multi-vitamins known as FitVit and so it is a complete health package.

How do you plan on raising awareness about Fit-Fiber and getting the community involved in the path to being “fit and healthy”? Amina: In terms of spreading the word about Fit-Fibre, we’ve started collaborating with healthAnum: The concept behind Fit-Fiber is to eat centers and gyms around the city, where the prodhealthy, and so there is a combination of gluuct will be widely available. Other than that, we comannan as well as digestive enzymes, which are approaching people who conduct Yoga, Pilates are imported from and Zumba classes so Europe, India and they can also tell peothe Far East and put ple about the health together in the tablet. benefits of Fit-Fibre It helps increase the and help them in their metabolism rate and weight loss goals. How to stay healthy during ramzaan! durin g ram zaan , we chan ge o ur eatin g habits dramatically . break in g y o ur fas t with a feas t will on ly make y o u gain weight ! here are a few ti ps for all the fas ters to remain heal th y durin g th is fes ti ve time of year !

don ' t be lazy ! !

1

It's really difficult to wake up and feel hungry that early in the morning but one eternal rule of Ramzaan should be: Do not miss Sehri! It is the most vital meal of the day. We advise you to include yoghurt in your sehri will keep you cool and won't let you feel thirsty during the day. You can do this in the form of flavoured yoghurts, smoothies or our good old traditional "lassi." Avoid tea or coffee because they will lead lead to dehydration and only increase your thirst!

catch s ome z ’ s !

2

Do not compromise on your sleep especially with such hot and humid temperatues! Make sure to complete a total of 8 hours of sleep to keep the mood swings, crankiness and caffeine cravings away. A good nights sleep not only keeps you pleasant during your fast but also plays a vital role in keeping your skin, hair and nails healthy.

36

PAPERAZZI MAGAZINE

3

d r e s s to impress It is very essential that you dress appropriately in Ramzaan for more than one reason. Wear loose, light and breezy outfits that will not let you sweat out and dehydrate you. Fabrics like denim do not allow our skin to breath which causes dryness in skin due to dehydration. Cotton button down shirts, linen pants, oversized tops and of course, loose kurtas in cool pastel colours are wardrobe essentials during this time!

4

s kin & hair Lotions and oils are not only our friends in the winters. Your skin and scalp still need that extra bit of nourishment on the outside, especially while we are fasting and aren't providing them with this nutrition on the inside. Hair becomes extra dry during the summer due to strong exposure to the sun and loss of water in your body, therefore try to oil your hair at least forty five minutes before you shower and use light moisturisers all over your body as soon you come out. When your skin and hair feel and look good, your fasting days will seem happier and more pleasant than ever.

exercis e

Doing super active workout routines during your fast seems like one difficult task, but light cardio such as walking and cycling is not impossible and helps build stamina. However, there are easier ways to exercise without exerting too much energy. Yoga, stretching and breathing exercises are most effective during Ramzaan which will not make you feel like you're "fainting" or "about to pass out." A 30 minute routine will help you remain active and detoxify!

6 7

5

wat e r r e t e n t i o n There is no denying that due to the heat wave we are facing, we feel more thirsty than hungry. This does not mean that we should fill ourselves up with jugs of water and "Rooh Afzah". Not only does this completely fill you up not letting you eat the full meal you should, but it also causes fatigue and stomachache. Include a healthy portion of protein and dairy in your meal alongside all the fried food empty calories we just cannot help but binge on during this festive month.

pos t iftar

If you're planning on eating dinner after your Iftar, make sure to have at least a two hour gap in between. Do not directly go to sleep after your Iftar. Make sure to take a walk before - exercise routines are also very effective post Iftar. Most important tip for this time is to spend time outdoors, meet up with friends and family and shop for Eid! 2015

Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? Cannes hosts one of the most famous global film festivals for the last 68 years. This year we happen to submit a short film that made it to the short film corner, which is essentially a way for the festival organizers to include new and independent filmmakers to the mix of Hollywood and global cinema. The festival lasts two weeks every year and this year we decided to attend it for 8 days. Who did you travel with? Rayika Chourdi, directed, produced and wrote the short film, Baat Cheet that was included in this year’s short film corner. Since I was the assistant director of the project, I got to go as well. This meant we got two all access passes for the festival

and could get tickets for premiers and screenings throughout the festival. Where did you stay? Hotel America is a quaint little boutique hotel just blocks away from all the action of the festival. On regular days, when there is no festival, it means close access to the beach as well. In their own words, “This relaxed hotel in a traditional townhouse is 2 blocks from the beachfront and a 3-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Le Vieux Port.” This hotel had the friendliest and most accommodating staff, they helped us out with translations and were great guides for our first time in Cannes. Unfortunately the entire hotel was booked up for the whole festival so we got to spend

You are the kind of person who knows what they want. You also know how to get things. On Monday you're going to grab for something in a daring way. On Wednesday, make sure you retain your modesty and groundedness if and when you do in fact get what you want. (And there's a good chance you will.) As you start to achieve some big goals this week, you're going to start thinking about longer-term goals, too. Thursday afternoon you'll be dreaming about the future, and Sunday you'll do something pioneering and brave.

You are a grounded person. On Monday, you know where you are going, more or less, and whether or not you realize it, you are the center of a lot of people's orbit. It's fun to be in the spotlight, but try not to get a big head about your social status. There's a chance that on Wednesday or Thursday you're going to have a power struggle with a friend over something that doesn't really matter. Why bother with that kind of drama? You have other friends -- better friends, terrific friends -- including certain special people you've never come to blows with, ever. Spend the weekend around them.

Why are things kind of tough right now? Why do you feel held back from doing your best? And why does everyone else around you seem to be wearing alien masks? You're going to have a lot of questions in your mind at the beginning of the week. To make matters worse, everyone else is going to be acting a touch crazier than usual. Who do you turn to? Someone you don't know very well. You're going to make a fast friend by the middle of this week, and they're going to give you some advice that's so smart you're going to wonder why you never thought of it yourself. Use it over the weekend to your advantage.

You don't have to be the life of the party all the time. That's not your job in this world. If you don't feel like leaving the house on Monday -- if the allure of the comfortable bed and a day to yourself is too strong (and if you have nothing going on at work anyway) -- consider taking a personal day and doing your own thing. By Tuesday and Wednesday, duty calls. Up and at 'em, cowboy. Even though there may not be happening a lot in your personal calendar this week, there's a lot going on in your head. By Friday, you're planning for the future, and sometimes that requires days and days of letting your mind wander.

On Monday, just because you have a strong sense of what you want and you proceed with confidence in almost any situation doesn't mean that you are, contrary to what some might say, arrogant. In fact, you are an excellent listener and you are constantly surprised by the things you learn from the most unlikely people, especially by the middle of the week. Still, someone's going to accuse you of being a little you-knowwhat. Best advice? Take it in stride, especially on Friday. You are doing good things and you're a good person. No sense in letting another person's cynicism overshadow that.

It's the beginning of the week and there's romance in the air. It doesn't have a specific smell per se, but you can sense it. For that reason, and for several others as well, you're going to have a terrific time Monday and Tuesday. Your general good mood is likely to put you in the mood to rethink and reorganize aspects of your life -- maybe you'll buy a filing cabinet at a used furniture store, or a new bookshelf. The middle and end of the week will be spent doing small, good things for your future. You're thinking and buying with optimism these days.

Someone is going to say something on Monday that takes you back, and the flashback might not be a very happy one. How annoying! The important thing to concentrate on is how far you've come. Wednesday and Thursday are both going to be full of fun and romance -- either you're in a relationship right now or you're seeing someone with potential. Even though Friday will be all about work, the day will be harmonious and kind of beautiful in its way. Then it's back to love. Sunday will be all about you-know-who.

On Monday, you're going to have a moment of shrewdness possibly while in the middle of a financial transaction (could be at the bank, could be at an ice cream store). The thing is, you are perceptive and charming. You could charm the wings off a bee. Unfortunately, you can't charm your finances or your family in the same way. Something's up back home, and it's going to come to the fore on Wednesday or Thursday. Do what you can, but don't go overboard. You have a life and a special someone who wants to see you Saturday night. Whatever you do, don't miss that.

On Monday, a little discipline never hurt anyone. There's no use for silly rules, of course, but in terms of getting stuff done -- well, discipline can be helpful. That's why it's annoying on Tuesday when everyone else is running around with their heads cut off rather than just dealing with the challenges at hand. Enter you: calm, resourceful, focused. What they'd do without you, no one knows, especially Thursday and Friday. You are a natural leader, as this week will amply demonstrate, though you're not a leader with tons of money, as this week will also demonstrate. Ah, well. You can't have it all.

You have friends in high places, and Monday might be the day to call in a favor. You have a lot of good karma coming your way anyway, especially Wednesday. It's almost like the world owes you one. You're tireless in your efforts to help other people, but it's going to dawn on you this week -probably on Thursday -- that you can only do so much. Still, that realization isn't likely to slow you down. All it will do is convince you that you need to start doing as many favors for yourself as you do for other people. Spend all day Saturday treating yourself.

You are direct and you know a lot about music and art. On Monday, you are exactly the kind of person that people love to have as a best friend. But who is your ideal best friend? This week, especially on Wednesday, don't be shy about talking to strangers. You could use a couple of friends outside your immediate social circles. Now's a good time to think about expanding your horizons, figuratively and literally. On Friday, how about taking a trip somewhere far, or at least thinking about it? And if you can't find anyone to go with, how about going it alone? Sometimes those are the best vacations. Use the weekend to consider your options.

Finally, finally, finally. You have been waiting for some well-deserved recognition for some time now, and on Monday you're finally going to get it. How to behave when the honor is bestowed upon you? Be modest. Be honest. You know. The question on everyone's mind, of course, is: What next? That's the question on your mind, too, especially on Wednesday and Thursday. All this success aside, what do you really want to be doing? On Friday, someone's going to encourage you to start being more creative, and the advice is going to strike a chord. Plus it will give you something to think about over the weekend.
