YOUR HOME'S HAPP ILY EVER AFTER do you need tips for how to decorate, no matter what your style or budget is? do you need some fresh inspiration for ways to decorate your home? hijab yazdani, takes a tour through the dolce vita store and gives us tips on how to decorate and find inspiration for our home!
If there's one thing that causes a stir, it's a room with an interesting, saturated blue. We think people like the idea of cozying up in the hues of the deepest sea. If you are a fan of bringing a bit of flare and intrigue to your space, splash some blue around and take in the magic
This season, there are a lot of designs playing with an assortment of chairs around a dining table. Either the dining table is rustic, paired with contemporary chairs or a classic table is surrounded by unorthodox chairs or even armchairs. By pairing two things that don't seem to go together, you are actually emphasizing the best qualities of both.

The concept of giving each room a fantastically different design tone is making a comeback. If you choose to have your living room make a statement with bright colors like blue, purple, red and so on, then you have the option of taking your parlor in a completely different direction. Beige might be an interior-design punch line, but it is possible to go neutral without being bland. When matched with an immaculate design, beige or even fawn furniture can give a very soothing yet royal feel.
For an elegant, masculine vibe, think gray. And what’s more masculine than a winged chair or a recliner to fill out your room? Grey is an ideal foil for other colors, and it plays well with all types of wood. "Gray is the new white," says Vicente Wolf, "Whether you're using it as a fabric, a paint color, or a wood stain, the great thing about gray is that it can create the mood of a room." So to set the tone of any space, let the colors you choose, define it.
As always, a room is incomplete without a touch of feminine beauty. Floral patterns may scream '80s, but they've made a roaring comeback. Be it a chair, a sofa or an ottoman, it's a trend worth exploring further. And funnily enough, cushions, the epitome of the feminine touch, have been ripped away from the norm and transformed into pieces of art. With shades like olive and orange and the ever popular animal prints, cushions are being given new extravagance. Don’t be daunted by the need for something amazing because an extravagance is something that your spirit thinks is a necessity.

P
akistan is home to some ridiculously talented people. From architects, lawyers and doctors, to artists and fashion designers; we are never short of superstars. However, we often forget the raw and unappreciated talent present in the vast, rural areas of the country. They might not be fortunate enough to have state-of-the-art facilities but they are as hardworking and creative, if not more than anyone in a metropolitan city. Seher Tareen of Studio S collaborated with journalist and activist Jugnu Mohsin to cultivate and harness the talent of the local women at Village Shergarh. I was lucky to spend an evening with these two lovely and extremely talented women to find out more about their unique collaboration.

How would you describe the premise behind the initiative undertaken at Village Shergarh? Seher: Jugnu reached out to me. The first time we spoke she said there needs to be heart in the project, and it was contagious to be honest. It was all about empowering women so I readily agreed. Jugnu: I was struggling initially to find a source of income for the women in my village who need the money but have no outlet. My son Ali told me Seher was looking to do fashion for a cause so I reached out to her with the idea of collaborating! I knew this would be of benefit to those who really need the support and are extremely talented. It was like a marriage of her ideas and talent along with the skills of those hardworking women. So far I have had a great experience working with her, and am really enjoying it! What was the inspiration behind the designs that you came up?
Seher: Jugnu showed me some of their designs, and the work was beautifully done and unique. There is a lot of colour and passion in their work, and many techniques have been passed on for generations.. I kept Jugnu's wish of preserving the crafts of this country in mind while designing my Shergarh collection. Jugnu: I was very taken Seher's ability to visualize and transform the designs of the women of Shergarh! I must mention that our journey started in March 2015. Initially we had only six women working for us, and now we have over seventy. The pride they take in their work and the positive feedback we have received inspires us on a daily basis. What are some of the distinct indigenous crafts that the local women at Shergarh possess? Seher: The main work done is Taarkashi – it is always an innovation to bring in more people and modernize it. The women have been doing it on cotton; wool, lawn and I wanted to see how it looked on organza. I gave them the cloth to make a special collection for Studio S. It is fascinating to see them take these old techniques and do them in modern and contemporary fashion. This way it is more wearable and as a result benefits the local women more. How do you intend to raise money from the collection? Seher: We were just thinking on how to raise money from this collection. The work is all hand done and takes time because the women not only work but have the responsibility of their families too. Fow now, we will have sample pieces at my Studio S by Seher Tareen and will take orders. 100% of the proceeds from my Shergarh collection will go back to the Shergarh women. The Pakistani fashion industry is growing rapidly with our designers exhibiting
all over the world. However, women in rural areas possess a lot of talent that goes unnoticed. Would you encourage high-street designers to tap in the local craft? Seher: Definitely! This is what sets us apart! As a fashion designer, it is your responsibility to create and push the boundaries. There is a wealth of techniques, embroidery styles and colours at our disposal and it would be a huge waste if this talent went untapped. Awareness of women empowerment and projects entailing it has been on the rise now. What makes your project different? Jugnu: 70 women from the village are working for the Sapphire Group; their main work is the finishing off products. 5 of them work for Seher’s collection and do the other work as well. A lot of heart and soul has been put into this project and this what makes it so unique and different. Seher: Jugnu has a vision for these women, and an emotional investment into the entire project. I am extremely impressed by their work-ethic and professionalism which further encourages me to help make a change in their lives.
Sadaf Kanwal models Studio S by Seher Tareen's Shergarh Collection
What are your plans for building a permanent model for the women at Village Shergarh? Jugnu: I want them to have employment in their homes since unemployment is a huge issue. Currently only the man of the family works and doesn’t give enough to the women. This project will help them be independent, whilst honing their talent and empowering them. One of the alented artisans, who now earns around Rs/ 20,000 told me she had an abusive relation – and now she could help herself. This is the sort of change I wish to see.

Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? I was given the opportunity to travel either to Turkey or to Australia to visit my brother and his family so I chose the lesser travelled continent and decided to go to Sydney! Luckily, Australia being in the Southern hemisphere, experiences its winter from May to August (Pakistan’s hottest months!) so this trip couldn’t have come at a better time! Who did you travel with? I made the journey to Australia on my own but didn’t mind it a bit as I was on my way to meet my brother, his wife and my adorable one year old nephew Rayaan. Where did you stay? I stayed with my brother in a suburb called Parramatta. Westfield,
travel diaries
a huge shopping mall (as all Londoners would know all too well), was located just minutes from where I was staying. The subway station is right next to the mall which took just under 35 minutes to downtown Sydney. All in all, if one wants the best of both worlds (the hustle bustle of the city and the hush of a suburb), Parramatta is the place to be! What is the best shopping there? Australia is a bit over-priced but one tends to find nice things in local brands. DFO is a Direct Factory Outlet, located not far from the Sydney Olympic Park, has many local and international stores with unbelievable discounts and prices. The Westfield Mall in downtown Sydney is once again a sight to see. You name it, they’ll have it!

travel diaries What can you do over there to relax and unwind Sydney is home to many beaches and resorts. I would suggest heading over to the famous Bondi beach (you may just spot Russell Crowe or Nicole Kidman leaving their houses or lounging on the beach). There are also many spas the one can go to to get away from the city life. I went for a muscle relaxing massage and it was absolutely worth it. Finally, any tips? Do not go to Sydney for less than 10 days! There is too much to do, and trust me you will want to do it all! June and July are the perfect months to go. The temperature goes down to around 10 degrees which is the perfect amount of cold you need to escape the hot Pakistani sun!

Suggest places for a perfect night out If you are lucky enough to coincide your trip with Sydney’s Vivid festival, then that is really all you need to attend at night. It is an 18-day festival of lights with installations all over the downtown area.. Walk across Darling Harbor at night or a nice meal by the water would be a perfect way to spend your night in Sydney. I for one really enjoyed my night cruise through the Ocean. Sydney is full of historic pubs and restaurants nestled in different corners across the city, so if that tickles your fancy, you should definitely go for it!
travel diaries
Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on 1. The Sydney Zoo! Words cannot do justice to how perfectly placed this zoo is. It overlooks the ocean, the Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge. 2. The Rocks. This is where traditional meets modern. This patch of pure history is tucked away right under Darling Harbor’s belly. The great thing about this place is that all the old architecture has been left the way it was made many hundred years ago. The cobbled streets, dark allies and quaint cafes give it great character. 3. Climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge! Even though I didn’t get to do it, I’ve heard it’s a once in a lifetime kind of experience! 4. The Opera House. I promise you, the first time you see it, you will not want to take your eyes off of it. I suggest you take a guided tour inside, as they tell you all about the building’s history and upcoming shows. 5. The world’s largest IMAX theatre! Located at the Darling Harbor, this is one screen that will take your breath away. I was lucky enough to catch Jurassic World on it, and I tell you, it was
an experience I’ll never forget. 6. Whale watching is an absolute must. It’s mesmerizing to see great humpback whales migrating to warm waters for the breeding season. Boats take you right in the middle of the ocean where you can see dolphins and whales journeying to the other side of Australia.
travel diaries
Suggest some amazing restaurants there? Being born and raised in Lahore, it comes as no surprise that I am a huge foodie. I’m always ready to try something new and that is exactly what I did in Australia. Meat, Wine and Co. located at Darling Harbor is a great place for a succulent kangaroo steak. One restaurant that was on the top of my list was Quay (thanks to Masterchef Australia). It is home to the world famous snow-egg that people from all over Australia come to eat! If you are looking for something less fancy, Paul’s famous burgers are the way to go. It’s about an hours drive out of Sydney but trust me, its worth it! Max Brenner, a brilliant NYC-based restaurant has a branch in Parramatta, where I would always go to get my daily dose of sugar!

I wanted my look to be vibrant, traditional, yet something different! Kamiar Rokni hit out of the ballpark with this jora! The white lehnga choli were inspired and reappropriated from one of his dupatta's I've been in love with since his fashion show back 2013! He paired it with a crisp yellow gota-wala dupatta, which gave me a 'purana zamana' feel! Though I usually do not wear yellow, the jora and dupatta changed that for me! I kept the hair and makeup simple too avoid looking overdressed. Kami made me a beautiful pouch to go with the outfit- it was the perfect 'something small' to complete the look!

When the time came for me to decide my baraat jora I was at a complete loss. All I knew was that I didn't want to wear red! Bunto Kazmi was ecstatic upon hearing I want something a little different and that she was free to experiment. I fell head over heels in love with my jora and the colour combination she chose - ivory, lime green and shocking pink - were very me! I paired my jora with wore a traditional polki set and a green jhoomar. For my makeup I went to Ashi at Nabila's. I was very pleased with what she did!

You don't feel afraid of anything. You could dive from a plane and never even break a sweat. Monday and Tuesday are going to be full of wild expeditions -- make sure you're hanging around people who can handle themselves in exciting situations -- and not only are you going to learn a lot about yourself, you're going to learn a lot about the big, weird world around you. Wednesday and Thursday may be a little on the crummy side (two words: money issues), but Friday, Saturday and Sunday promise to be fast-paced and, if you're lucky, romantic.
You are not the kind of person to rush right out and buy whatever's in the store window, but on Monday you're hankering to make a purchase. But you're also having second thoughts. That's how the whole day is going to be: half of you wants to jump ahead, the other half wants to back up a bit. Your best bet? Wait a day or two. See how you feel on, say, Thursday. (By the way, you're going to feel on top of the world on Thursday.) In the coming weekend, shopping figures prominently (again). Maybe you're in for some impulse buying after all.
Monday, you surround yourself with exceptionally talented people. You have great friends. So why not turn to them for advice at times like these? They've been through stuff before, and they can help, especially midweek. It's nothing you can't handle, but it will be something similar to an obstacle course: You're going to have to climb through a lot of hoops before you make it to the weekend. On Friday, someone is going to make eyes at you, and if you're single, you should make eyes back. There will be a lot happening -- and a fair amount of romance -- in your weekend.
So sometimes you get a little emotional, especially Monday and Tuesday. That's perfectly okay. You're only a human being. Still, why let the small things get to you? You are always on the go, but some things don't have to be hurried. When you feel like sprinting, walk instead. You'll be amazed how much more pleasant the world is. On Thursday, a dinner party or a social gathering will be the setting for a crazy conversation about something you've never considered, and that's going to set off a frenzied, the-wilder-the-better weekend. Fasten your seat belt. It's going to be insane.

There isn't an hour that goes by that you don't learn something new. Well, okay, some hours are pretty uneventful, but lately you're learning things left and right, especially Monday through Wednesday. All this education comes from people whose opinions you never thought would differ much from your own. Most of your learning opportunities this week are going to take place, surprisingly enough, at work -- on Thursday, the key is going to be maintaining your modesty and not letting things come to blows with the boss -- but your weekend is going to be spent with friends. Smart friends.
For a while there it seemed like your wheels were just spinning, but now you're finally getting some traction. On Monday, you have a sense of what you're doing and why it matters in the grander scheme of things. You don't have any more money to show for it, alas, but that will come with time. And anyway, what does money buy you? Not anything that truly matters. Thursday will be a day of deep conversations and a fair amount of soul-searching, but oddly enough it will be a fun day, and the weekend will be what you make of it.
Monday is all about you and you-knowwho, and things could go either way. Your mood is going to determine whether the day goes terrifically or not so well at all. Obviously, the happier you are, the happier you-know-who will be. It's amazing how much you two rub off on each other. But every day isn't going to be as sensitive as Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, for example, will be full of magnetism and dynamism and romance, and Friday you both will feel full of energy. Expect a lot of long, winding conversations over the weekend.
Monday you are going to be of service to someone else, and they are going to be so thankful they aren't going to know what to do with their gratitude. (Obviously, you think they should channel their gratitude into buying you dinner, but you're not going to push it.) Then on Thursday, you and you-know-who are going to have a minor spat -- nothing big -- and it's going to remind you of the importance of compromise. Even people who are madly in love have to sometimes go out of their way to make their partners happy. You scratch their back, they'll scratch yours -- especially over the weekend.

You don't have to proceed very far into Monday before you see something that completely blows your mind: a bare tree against the sky, a chimney coughing up blue smoke, a clever-looking snowman... The world is truly full of more people and more beauty than you'll ever have time to exhaust. Midweek on will be spent doing family things and talking about family matters, but surprisingly, there's a chance that you may have an unexpected romance this Sunday. It's a small chance. But it will be a good day either way.
You thought you had all your ducks in a row, but you just glanced back at them and they all turned into muffins. Wait, what? You had ducks, now you have muffins? That's how weird Monday (and possibly straight through Wednesday) is going to be. (Muffins! Where there were ducks?!) One thought that's going to pass through your head more than a few times on Thursday is that you're living in a dream, but no -- this is real life, in all its ducky, muffiny charm. Take things slowly and make sure you don't fall for any illusions on the weekend. They're everywhere.

Monday you're going to play a game with someone that reminds you of being a kid again. It's not every day that you get to take thick pieces of chalk outside and draw giant bugs and flowers on the driveway, so you should relish it. The middle of the week is going to return you to less exciting matters -- work, responsibilities, details, errands, laundry, family obligations -- but at least it will be busy and you'll get tons checked off your to-do list. You'll be busy into the weekend, in fact. Time flies when you're running around. Er, something like that.
Your family needs you in the beginning of the week, and you're not the kind of person who would ever let them down. So what if you have to drop what you're doing and run an errand or two for someone -- that is exactly what families are all about. Don't worry; everyone at work will understand. Wednesday, thankfully, returns you to more exciting matters: your love life, your free time and your ability to express yourself creatively. You are a master of communication, and that's going to help you this weekend, when a whole swarm of flighty people suddenly appear in your life.
