Guilty pleasure? It's gotta to do something with food. On your playlist? Perfect Strangers and Can't Stop The Feeling. They complete life! First thing you notice about the opposite sex? Sense of style and humour Pet peeve? People whom I get a negative vibe from. It sounds very judgmental but it happens. Which celebrity has you star struck? All of them! But I'll have to say Mahira Khan. I couldn't even speak when I first met her. If you could have any superpower? Invisibility. I would love to see what people have to say behind my back. The Evolution of Shopping in Pakistan BY MEHR NAIK

country. The idea of having all brands under one roof, does not only facilitate customers through the aspect of variety but also allows them to shop in a safe and convenient environment. The integration of food courts happened quickly in both cities and to make things even better indoor theme parks like Fun Factory and Universal Cinemas in Lahore took the shopping experience to a whole new level. Malls have now become a hub for families offering them day long engagements and activities.

S

hopping in Pakistan has always been a major entertainment avenue. Whether, it is for a wedding, fashion event or simply due to our obsession with lawn launches, we Pakistanis always find a reason to shop. Hence, it is no surprise that the retail industry has rapidly expanded and completely transformed the face of shopping in Pakistan. We started off with the legendary markets like Liberty in Lahore and Tariq Road in Karachi, places we still love for their diverse variety of fabrics, ornaments, local craft and of course for our desi snack carts. With the help of the rapid increase in fashion brands, eastern and western, the retail industry evolved into a branded market sporting stand-alone stores. Zamzama in Karachi and M.M Alam in Lahore then became the premium shopping hubs in both cities and quickly attracted the attention of some of the most popular food outlets regardless of fine dining or fast food retailers. Catering to customers that don’t only travel frequently but also have access to multiple digital media platforms like that of Facebook and Instagram, businesses in Pakistan have now felt a drastic need to conform to global trends and increase their offerings, especially in the world of retail. This brought along the revolutionary and globally adored concept of malls into from 32

The Lahore Shopping Festival at the Emporium Mall is the city’s latest retail endeavor, comprising not only of amazing discounts, food, cinema and entertainment for children, but additional interactive activities like scavenger hunts, flash mobs, puppet shows, fire throwers and a chance to win multiple prizes each day. All these factors have quiet easily made LSF the place to be in town, the perfect place to shop, eat, win and make some priceless memories with friends and family. The idea of festivals is one that has always been adored by the people in Pakistan, whether it is in the field of literary, music or food and now with our favorite hobby of shopping tied up to festivals, we Pakistani are super excited to see such spaces initiate in the society. It’s just the idea of inviting people to not only shop, but to celebrate their togetherness at a memorable occasion that we feel is going to make shopping festivals a long term tradition in our country! It looks like with the help of experiential retail; the Pakistani market is all set to make a mark like that of LSF in the years to come, and then who knows? We just might be on our way to become a global shopping hub. Oh well, a girl can dream!

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? We decided to go on a roadtrip through the south west coast of England. There are so many beautiful places to see that we couldn’t decide on just one! Dorset & Devon were the main areas we travelled to. Who did you travel with? I went with my parents and younger brother. Since he lives in another city we wanted to have a summer vacation while he was home from university. It was a great to spend some quality time together before we all got busy with work again. Where did you stay?

travel diaries

Since we were travelling every day, we stayed at a different B&B each night. We stayed in the coastal resort town of Bournemouth and the picturesque villages of Sidmouth & Moretonhampstead. The last two were small home businesses where the hosts were really friendly. What are the best shopping spots there? Torquay has a large shopping area where you can find all the usual department stores. Every town has tourist shops where you can buy local souvenirs. Just remember to get some delicious fudge for your drive back home.

Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on? The highlight for me was Durdle Door - a natural limescale arch on the Jurrasic Coast in Dorset. It has the most beautiful beaches and white chalk cliffs, which can only be truly appreciated in person! There is a very steep (almost dangerous) walk down and back up from the beach, but was definitely worth it for me.

travel diaries

What can you do over there to relax and unwind? If you like the beach, then there’s an entire coastline waiting for you to soak up the sun. The quaint villages are also a great place to get away from the bubble of city life. Dartmoor National Park is an excellent option for those who like to explore nature and relax in a quieter surrounding. Finally, any tips? Wear the right shoes! Leave your fancy heels and wedges at home because all of these places require proper footwear. Keep a jacket/sweater because it can be very windy along the coast. Booking in advance is a must, particularly during the summer as the good B&Bs get full very quickly.

Suggest places for a perfect night out Bournemouth Pier is a popular tourist area, so you can

find plenty of things to do there for everyone. During the summer you can have a late night barbecue on the beach and watch the fireworks display. It’s just a couple hours drive from London so even if you’re just visiting the UK, this can easily be a day trip with your friends!

travel diaries

Suggest some amazing restaurants there? Pyne’s at The Bedford Hotel in Sidmouth serves the best calamari I have ever had! It was crispy and coated in an incredible sweet chilli sauce. Sadly it was just a starter dish because we devoured it in seconds! Devon is famous for its cream tea, which is a scone with clotted cream & jam – and of course a pot of English tea! You can order this in any restaurant or café so do not forget to try this.

You may be able to inspire others to join you in a quest that involves a vacation, new opportunity, or course or workshop. In fact, doing it alone may not be as much fun as taking your friends or sweetheart along. Venus also moves into your social zone this week, so you'll be in the mood to embrace the holiday spirit. Be prepared for lots of invitations to parties and upbeat get-togethers. Also, an offer may come out of the blue.

Your intuition could be trying to tell you something, so it might be a good idea to sit quietly and listen. You could save yourself time or even money regarding a key project or business affair. You might also be assessing the impact of a new habit or exercise routine and how it affects you psychologically. There's a good chance that you feel more upbeat or better within yourself, and this may be something you'll keep up for the month.

It looks like this will be a hectic time, one that could bring good news and perhaps an offer you can't refuse. Although your workload could be large, make time to investigate an opportunity that comes out of the blue. It might be the answer to a career dream. Matters on the home front continue to be upbeat and positive, so much so that you might consider a few lifestyle changes to enhance your energy for a busy few weeks ahead.

You may decide it's time to have some serious fun, especially with Venus in your sector of new adventures encouraging you. Romance could be a possibility when you move outside your comfort zone, whether this means joining a club or mingling with a new bunch of people. Someone may have a serious proposition for you that engages your creative side, so give it some thought. Where business matters are concerned, attend to the details as there could be a misunderstanding.

The idea of creating positive change in your life could take hold right from the start of December. Key influences could remind you of this and see you looking to make a serious start. Venus, the planet of love and romance, dances into your relationship sector, so the coming weeks could see a surge of warmth and a greater spirit of cooperation. An unexpected guest or exciting opportunity may show up for you, too, but you'll easily take it in stride.

Plans to invest in your home, either by redecorating or purchasing some bright and colorful holiday baubles, could put you in a good mood. There could be a serious intention behind such a plan, that of providing a place of warmth and happiness for others to enjoy. Venus moves into your lifestyle sector, so you could find it a lot easier to indulge than you might normally. Looking out for some healthy treats might be a way around this.

You could be excited by the prospect of a project that has positive long-term implications. A very upbeat blend of energies gears up at the start of the month and continues to the end. As it affects you personally, you can reap many benefits if you follow through. The emphasis is on constructive change and making slow but steady progress toward a goal that could revolutionize a key aspect of your life. A business event could also prove opportunistic.

You may be involved in a project that could enhance your reputation. The Sun's position in a more private part of your chart hints that this is a time to stand back. You may be having some serious thoughts about your direction and purpose in life and whether this is really what you want. The move of Venus into your money zone could also see you purchasing a few luxuries, perhaps as a treat for yourself or others, and enjoying doing so.

This could be the week when you get down to planning for the holidays. What's more, it seems you'll enjoy doing it. This is certainly wise, as Mercury will turn retrograde on December 19, so preparing early is a must. Venus, your personal planet, enters a dynamic and positive sector of your chart, making this the perfect time for a makeover. If you want to dazzle the competition, choose outfits that emphasize your individuality as well as creativity.

It might be helpful to note any intuitive hunches concerning your finances and how you might make better use of your money. Being a naturally generous person, you could go over the top with gifts unless you set yourself a limit. A key aspect this week encourages you to consider this. With Venus nestling down in your home and family sector, you'll begin to relax into the holiday mood and enjoy getting your place shipshape and ready for guests.

aquarius

pisces

This week, you may be geared up to act on a certain idea - one that could open new doors for you. It isn't something to rush, as it needs patience if it's to work out in your best interests. It may be tempting to take a shortcut, but it isn't worth it. The move of Venus into your sign could encourage you to get a holiday makeover or buy new clothes that enable you to stand out from the crowd.

Things seem to be coming together for you to gain a reputation or enhance your standing if you're willing to go through the proper channels. With a focus on accomplishment and achievement, your time in the spotlight may be coming soon, if it isn't here already. The move of Venus into a more secluded sector of your chart could see you reviewing your relationship with yourself and your purpose and mission in life.
