zara shahjahan lawn 2016 This year Zara Shahjahan presents her second independent lawn collection, Noor-Bano an ode to the romantic Pakistani woman, captured through a mystical campaign shot in Cholistan and the palaces of Bahawalpur by Abdullah Haris, featuring the beautiful Syra Shehroz. The stunning expanse of the mysterious desert and the historic backdrop of the majestic Derawar Fort tell the story of a forgotten past, an era of eternal romance with tradition. The soft femininity of the Kurta and a dupatta flowing in the wind celebrate the identity of the Pakistani woman, the quintessential essence and inspiration of lawn. Élan lawn

marrakes h callin g We travel to Marrakesh, Morrocco with Khadijah Shah, Creative Director of Élan. Don’t miss out on all the behind the scenes action from this fabulous lawn shoot with Omayr Waqar, NFK Photography and Nidhi Sunil. Why did you choose to shoot in Morocco? The Élan woman is free spirited, confident and loves to travel, hence we always pick an exotic location for our lawn shoot. We chose Morocco as its rich in culture, its French-Arabic heritage, gorgeous architecture, and ofcourse, the greenery. Who did you travel with? We were a team of seven that travelled to Marrakesh. There was me, Meherbano and Mahnum from the Elan team. Maha Burney and Nadir Firoz Khan who were doing the photography, Omayr Waqar for the makeup and hair, and our model Nidhi Sunil who came from New York. How did you choose your model? I’ll be honest; it was a long and exhausting process. We had a few options, we knew wanted a new face, and someone who would go with our theme. She had to fit perfectly with Marrakesh, and Nidhi seemed to do just that. We went through a whole list of international models, there was A LOT of back and forth before we took a decision, and ultimately Nidhi was the one we all unanimously agreed upon. She is pretty, feminine, yet unusual. She is delicate and fierce at the same time. 52

Where did you stay? We were staying at La Mamounia in Marrakesh, which is a gorgeous property, with world-famous gardens. The hotel is actually situated in the centre of an 18th century garden given to Prince Moulay Mamoun as a wedding gift by his father. When you guys weren't shooting, what were you doing? We were shooting from sunrise till sunset for most days, but when we got the time, we visited the Majorelle gardens, explored the labyrinth that is the Djemme El Fena, and walked around Medina to get a real feel of the city. Any recommendations/travel tips? Check the weather! We packed for the summer, all linen pants and summer blouses, and when we got there it was freezing! It uncustomarily started raining, and the weather became super cold. So the first thing we did in Marrakech was run to Zara to buy some outerwear! Also, when in Marrakesh, haggle. Haggle with the everyone from the cab drivers to the shop keepers at the souk, because they’re all looking to make a quick buck. What are the best shopping spots there? The Djemma El Fena, which is a huge souk is a shoppers delight! You’ll find everything there from gorgeous ceramics, to hand-woven baskets and hats, to intricately carved chess boards, and ofcourse, Argan oil. 33 Majorelle is also a great boutique for cute accessories, homeware, and clothes from Moroccan designer, where you can save yourself from the hassle of haggling. Suggest some restaurants? Marrakesh is all about t he Tajines, and some of the best 54

we had washome cooked at the different locations we shot. The Tajine at the cafÊ at Le Jardin Majorelle was also exquisite, and a must-have. L’Epicurean and Le Comptoir are also nice resto-lounges where you can go out for a good night. Did you get the chance to sightsee? For the purposes of the shoot, yes we did! We went to the Koutoubia Mosque, which is a landmark in Marrakesh, we went to the desert, the Ben Youssaf Madrassa. Also, we took a three hour ride from Casablanca to Marrakesh, which was very scenic.

Every city has its own cultural dress and as much as I love my mommy jeans, the summer heat in Karachi won’t allow it. Thanks to the designer lawn labels for making casual shalwar kurtas look chic. Elan a brand that holds a piece of my heart doesn’t fail to impress. I chose a beautiful straight shirt with yellow lace appliquéd pants. The dupata takes the cake; it’s a stunning floral print with paint splatters. I wore the day look with pink Rene’ caovilla kitten heels and a Dolce and Gabbana Sicily.

Night

For my night look I wanted the dupata to dominate my outfit. The silky scarf gives it a more formal look. I belted it with a Misha Lakhani belt, a Swarovski clutch and Bright pink manolos. 2016

Maira

Pagganwala I loved the Élan outfit...it had such a cool boho-vibe, which is right up my alley, so putting together a day-time look was a serious no-brainer! I pulled out my trusted turban, massive earrings, platform wedges (which you can't really see) and was all set! Flared pants are my go-to these days...and have definitely made a major comeback; bye bye skinnies! For the evening look...it was obvious; bring on the dark lips, the bling, and a clutch! And viola, you have a lawn look that you can easily pull off for a dholki! Dark lips is the easiest way to dress up any outfit (in my case it was YSL's Brun Metallique) and in terms of bling, I wore my go-to pendant (it's just so versatile - dinners, parties, weddings - it always works!).

Lawn is usually treated as a no brainer and people don’t really make much effort to style it. However, Elan with its vivacious prints and vibrant colours always makes lawn super fun! Their new prints are versatile and can be worn during the day, as well as night-time. The Elan print I chose has a very bohochic vibe to it, so I kept that whole feel in mind and styled my day-time look accordingly. I love mixing high end with high street and anything and everything vintage. I wore statement earrings from H&M, my ADR x H&M charm bracelet and an oversized ring, which is one of my favourite Portobello Market finds. I finished my look with white Hermes Oran Sandals and a striking green Bottega knot clutch. My night-time look was more formal and luxe, so I opted for my diamond and yellow topaz earrings, ring and pendant . Since I wanted the look to be more fun, I wore an oversized floral ring and paired it with pink Manolo Hangisi pumps to add a pop of colour. I kept my bag simple and opted for the classic black bottega knot clutch.

6 MUST TRY SPRING LOOKS 2016

1 2 3 4 5 6

BY SUMRINA KHAN

ombre lips

Use a darker bold lip liner to outline & shade the lip line. Fill it in with a lighter colour from the same colour palette. I higly recommend Mac's Heroine lip liner paired with Mac's Mehr matte lipstick. This is super easy to do and makes quite an impact.

liner less eyes It's all about the doe-eyed doll face for a fresh spring look. Ditch the liner and instead work a clean eye with lots of mascara! Remember natural sometimes needs makeup too, so don't forget your eye lid primers for a flawless finish!

neon lip colour

As much fun as working the dark berries and browns was in the winter it's time to colour pop those lip shades! Work with your skin tone and really get into those neon shades. They're all the rage this spring! (Shades of orange, reds, pinks paired + a simple cat liner = perfection)

ditch the foundation

If you're prone to piling up the base try something new this Spring. Instead of layering up on foundation opt for a BB or CC cream and finish off with a setting powder. Thanks to the radiance of the sun your skin is naturally more refreshed! I highly recommend Bobbi Brown's BB cream and Mac's mineralize range setting powder.

strobing

Thanks to a certain Kardashian, the strobing (a fancier word for highlight if you may) trend is here to stay. Ditch the contour and focus on the highlight. Concealers, highlight pens and shimmer blocks are your friends. Must-have products: Mac's strobe cream + soft & gentle highlighter!

coloured mascara

Okay, not everyone's cup of tea but if you're into experimenting coloured mascara's have really made a comeback! Layer it on with a similar palette eyeshadow and keep lips minimal nude or pink/peach lips. Must-haves: Tom Ford's extreme mascara in blue!
