planes, trains & automobiles

Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place meet new people and get wiser! Whether you like to travel alone or with stories and experiences, we want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Tell us about your favourite or one of your favourite destination spots. Where did you choose to go and why? One of my favourite travel destinations is northern Morocco. I chose to visit a city called Tangier right at the northern tip of the beautiful country. It is situated between the Atlantic Ocean, Straights of Gibraltar, Mediterranean Sea, and Rif Mountains. I chose this destination, as I have always wanted to visit Morocco, and when I got the opportunity, I decided to visit a place that is not as well known; I wanted to see a historical place, but not deal with the bustle of a large and touristy city where I could not relax. Who did you travel with? My trip was quite a spur of the moment one. While planning a trip, the destination actually changed many times – weather, flight costs, adds for

travel diaries

other exciting places, and so much more confound the decision making process. We finally settled on a flight to Tangier and figured we would take it from there. I think that in this case traveling with someone who wanted to get the same things out of the trip, and the fact that we are very close made a world of a difference. It means that in cases where choosing between lazing or rushing to see sights, or sleeping in or waking up early, or even taking it easy or having a long night out are always a mutual decision that everyone can be happy with and have a great time, and have an amazing vacation. Where did you stay? I stayed at a small privately owned place called La Maison de Tanger. We had looked up too many places and the options, uncertainty, and frustration all were becoming a nuisance. This place was close to some of the major sites such as city centre, markets, attractions, bars, and so

travel diaries Suggest some amazing restaurants there? Eating wise there is a wide spectrum of places ranging from a dhaba to upscale restaurants. Often these restaurants are tucked away in buildings in areas that we would consider a random aabady or colony. The cuisine ranges from kebabs to fine fish. Most places will give you delicious olives and munchies to go with your meal. They are also very big on mint tea. Many shopkeepers even give you some while you shop, and the local shacks on the street provide it too. As for the restaurants, Salon Bleu, El Minzah, Al Andalous and El Morocco are some of my favourite.

travel diaries

Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on Cinema Rif is a very historic cinema in the city centre. It screens old movies in French and Arabic. I was lucky to catch one in English. It also has a café where tourists and locals alike, come to work or relax, and they have some amazing poster artwork. There are many parts of Kasbah spread around the edge of the old market. Although run down in most parts, it is extremely picturesque. Café El Hafa is located on the terraced hillside overlooking the sea and is a must see if you visit! Under French Colonial control, many architectural beauties were constructed in Tangier. Today these either still fulfil their functions as consulates, or have been converted in to galleries or hotels. You can spot them as you wander through town.

travel

What are the best shopping spots there? This city has lost its colonial prestige, so there aren’t busy high streets flooded with Europeans, but there is plenty to buy. I can tell you that if you look hard enough, you can pick up some really nice stuff at incredibly low prices. The bazaar caters to the locals, so every part of it has something or the other to see and buy. They have fantastic clothes made by the nomads, stuff you can get for the house at a fraction of the price that you would get anywhere else, and local handicrafts that will blow you away. The hotel is next to the Grand Socco. From here

Suggest places for a perfect night out. El Morocco Club, Tangerine, Beach Clubs. I would be careful with the beach clubs though, some of them are quite dodgy. Go with some locals if you can, or find the one where the tour groups visit. Tangerine is a small bar in the Medina. It is a little difficult to find, but when you do, it really is a gem. It is small and simple, but the guys running it are great, and it is quite full over the weekend.

travel diaries

forth so I was extremely happy with the choice we made. It fulfilled all of our expectations. It was owned by a young French guy, and he only had a few rooms with a couple locals working for him. They were all exceptionally hospitable, polite, and helpful. The place was peaceful and quiet – both at the pool that is surrounded by trees in an inner courtyard, and on the amazing terrace on the top of the building that has views of the city and the coastline. The layout for the place is suitable even for families with children

travel diaries

you can wander the narrow streets and find Moroccan scarves, trousers, lamps, jewellery, and almost anything you would want as a souvenir.

You have a goal in mind big time on Monday. Be careful about trampling on others to get there — it’s bad for your karma! Around Tuesday and Wednesday, you’re more of an idea person rather than an action go-getter. Get in cahoots with someone who thinks like you do for double the brainpower (and double the fun, too). Then after all that conscious thought, your subconscious has a message for you at the end of the workweek. Write down those dreams and tune into those visions. This weekend, toss the schedule aside and see what allures you from moment to moment.

If you’ve been thinking about getting out of town, go ahead and firm up those plans on Monday when the stars smile on future journeys. Tuesday and Wednesday bring some unusual energy your way, perhaps in the form of a work or a personal challenge. This could be a bend-or-break situation — which will you do? After this, fun with friends (or a romantic interest) is in order at the end of the workweek. Those who know and love you best energize you, and vice versa. And this weekend you just might be impetuous, spontaneous and ready to dive into something new.

If you’re confused or indecisive, don’t expect a sudden flash of insight on Monday. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, however, if you apply yourself, you’re likely to experience the dawning of a useful point of view. To prompt it, consider the most outlandish of options and seek out advice from an odd source. An email, a text or other communique could be misunderstood at the end of the workweek; beware of assumptions now. When the weekend comes, your feelings will come across beautifully.

Playing hooky or working from home might not be a bad idea on Monday because your regular routine may present some irregular issues now. Around Tuesday and Wednesday be sure to direct negative feelings appropriately. You don’t want to end up tangling with your boss when your relationship’s the source of your frustration — or vice versa. But spread the good stuff around. By the end of the workweek, the stars are sending plenty of mojo your way. You’ll click with others now in a most satisfying way. This weekend, do what it takes to truly unwind.

Wanna make a good impression on Monday? It’s easy — make it all about them. They’ll think you’re the cat’s pajamas (accurately, of course). Around Tuesday and Wednesday, somebody’s quirks may make you crazy, but even you can admit you’ve got a few of your own. Try to loosen up or laugh it off. Your work or personal priorities require attention at the end of the workweek. The most appealing possibilities may not ultimately satisfy you. This weekend, almost anything’s fun, so why not try something entirely different?

On Monday, fit in some fun — a little flirtation, a quick coffee with a friend, whatever it takes to kick the week off right. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, you have the tenacity to apply yourself to a task or situation, but then again, if you think more freely first, an entirely new and improved approach may present itself. Don’t overlook esoteric ideas. Try saying ‘I hear what you’re saying’ at the end of the workweek even if you’re thinking ’You’re a total wingnut.’ You just might change your mind. Watch your wallet and any intertwined finances this weekend.

If you find yourself dragging a bit on Monday, consider why you’re feeling this way. You’ll want to have your emotional state sorted out by Tuesday and Wednesday. Expect some pretty spectacular energy from the stars, including a possible romantic interlude. Your knack for ‘getting’ others is hot now. Don’t expect big results. You might be disappointed at the end of the workweek, but smaller plans will go rather nicely. As for the weekend, find opportunities to cooperate and compete. Have some fun — create something or play a game, one-on-one or in a group.

You’re a people person and super aware of opportunities on Monday, so seize this day big time! Around Tuesday and Wednesday, family and/ or household matters should be a priority. A little maintenance of your relationships and surroundings now prevents issues later. Then it’s time to leave mundane stuff (mostly) behind and stretch that imagination at the end of the workweek. Think big, think bold, think beautiful — and think romance! This weekend, look for common ground rather than conflict. Being the one to make the first overture feels fantastic.

If being ‘on’ on Monday is essential, consider hitting the gym to get your blood pumping, stopping for more coffee or both. If possible, delay bigger, better agenda items until Tuesday and Wednesday when the stars serve you some electric, inspiring stuff, and (bonus) give you natural allure and extra shine. What do you want now? Go for it! At the end of the workweek, it may seem like a hassle, but confirm plans, do the math and so forth; otherwise things are liable to go awry. As for the weekend? It looks great for self-discovery and possibly some revelations about others, too.

A penny saved is a penny you can spend on something bigger and better later on Monday. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, you have a bright, shiny quality that attracts others; your genuine interest in them keeps ‘em around. Don’t forget to share your latest odd fascination. At the end of the workweek, it’s a good thing your head is securely attached. You’re prone to lose most everything else, including track of time at a crucial moment if you’re not careful. A great date or an outing with friends this weekend might involve a game — wanna watch or play?

Hop out of bed early on Monday, and make the most of the limitless possibilities the stars are sending your way. By Tuesday and Wednesday, you’re busy refining a scheme or looking for an alternative approach to a certain situation — good ideas both. The imaginative oomph you need, however, might not arrive until the end of the workweek. You’re able to come up with all sorts of things now, especially in cahoots with someone super. Balance work or projects and play this weekend — too much of one throws you off big time now.
