mAHA AHMAD Being a bride is possibly one of the most difficult processes one goes through! We plan our wedding day and what we will wear years before the actual wedding. Meticulous planning goes into each look from the colour combinations and embellishment of the outfits to the jewellery, hair and makeup. Here we feature some of our favourite brides and show you what they wore to their special days. Find out what they have to say!

I wanted to look very traditional on my Mehndi, and Dr. Haroon made that happen. I did my own make up & only wore flower jewellery. A friend of mine ordered a big gorgeous piece of flowers for my hair which I had tied in a paranda, truly keeping it simple. I fell in love with the orange and green combination which are very unusual colours for me, so Dr. Haroon did something different and by throwing in a third colour which made the outfit come together. The outfit was heavy and the work was intricately done in gold. I paired it all with comfortable gold kolapuris.

Bunto Kazmi gave me a beautiful regal shade of red which I was thrilled about since I wanted to keep my look traditional on the wedding day. The shirt was a dull gold filled with intricate work and she gave me these beautiful namak-para sleeves and the cuffs were filled with kaam almost looking like bangles. The farshi gharara was red with a very long back trail and had a gorgeous shade of plum in the middle, which was only visible when I was sitting. The tika I wore was my favourite piece made of polki and rubies, and the stunning polki set completed the look. My make up was done by the talented and my most favourite Shamain. She kept my make up light, with shimmer on the eyes.

I wanted to keep a variety of looks for all the functions so I opted for a more modern and contemporary look on the valima. Once again Bunto aunty outdid herself with this light pink ensemble. The shirt had a coat style silhouette, flaring out at the bottom giving an almost cancan look with the bodice filled with flowers, birds, and butterflies, all done in crystal work. She paired the it with Izaar pants that had work all over but at the bottom she gave a thick lucsious border. The entire outfit was made in a net fabric which made the fall of it even more gorgeous. The outfit was paired with an exquisite diamond set that just made the whole outfit come to life. My hair and makeup was done by Shamain, who gave me a super high hair do which accentuated my height. She gave me dark smokey eyes, rosy cheeks and an ethereal glow.

Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Tell us about your favourite or one of your favourite destination spots. Where did you choose to go and why? One of my favourite cities has to be Prague. It is the capital of Czech republic and is situated in the north west on the Vltava River. Home to only 1.2 million people it is a small city and most of the tourist attractions are accessible by walking or taking the tram. My neighbor and a childhood friend from Karachi, ABD, had moved to Prague for his B.Sc right after finishing his A’levels. He hardly visited Karachi as oppose to my other friends who chose to study elsewhere such as the UK and the States, and his reason was “ bro, once you visit Prague you’ll never want to leave”. This quote bothered me till I visited Prague after which I went on an

travel diaries

endless rampage of trying to move there, which unfortunately did not work out! Who did you travel with? This trip was absolutely spontaneous. I was in Frankfurt for a Textiles fair and while sending an email a travel deal popped up as an advert showed that flights to Prague were cheaper than a meal at Okra (Karachi). Without further thought, I instantly entered my credit card details and booked the flight. Next step was convincing my boys to fly in from London. Once I told them what Prague has to offer ( details which I refuse to share here haha) they were all on board. Best thing about travelling with your friends is that they will always have your back hence

Where did you stay? We all stayed with my childhood friend ABD who had quite a lavish apartment in downtown Prague. Prague is a place to visit when you’re young and willing explore. I’d highly recommend staying in the centre which is ‘Prague1’.

For a fine dining experience I’d recommend the Alcron, situated in the Radisson hotel. The Alcron is one of the only two Michelin star restaurants in Prague built in 1932. It is a small room which seats approximately 25-30 people and the paintings inside evoke a 1930’s bar and inspires a sense of luxury. I would recommend trying the Ravioli filled with confit of Rabbit with morel mushrooms. A more accessible place with a lively ambiance is the café Louvre. Boasting a young crowd and known for pre parties along with great finger food. Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on

travel diaries

Ok so when it comes to the nightlife, Prague does not shut down till the sun is out. Normally people enter clubs at 2am and leave by 5-6. Clubs have one rule; if the people are enjoying the music must go on. Places I’d recommend are M1, Bombay bar. What can you do over there to relax and unwind? To be honest I did not relax but for some peace of mind having a meal along the river. I hear the Spa at the Kempinski Hybernska is legit though. Finally, any tips? Prague is an extremely cheap place compared to other popular tourist destinations. You could compare it to Karachi in terms of daily expenditure. 1 Czech Koruna is equivalent to 5 Pakistani rupees. If you are in Europe book it last minute. Extremely safe place. Pakistanis are considered to be exotic there.

Prague is culturally rich and they have successfully maintained their heritage sites.

Suggest places for a perfect night out.

travel diaries

Suggest some amazing restaurants there?

One of them which every tourist goes to is the Charles bridge which crosses the Vltava bridge. Construction of this bridge finished in the beginning of the 15th century and it is one of the most important routes which links the prague castle to the city’s Old town. However, a sight which I will never forget is the Zizkov Television Tower. This tall tower has sculptures of massive babies crawling up. YES completely strange and freakuy but all the more interesting. Made by a Czech designer in 2000 it was admired by many so they decided to make it permanent.

Friends and allies are in the stars on Monday — you plus others equals great things. So why go it alone? Around Tuesday and Wednesday, try as you might to get something off the ground, the cosmic energy’s creating a bit of a fog. You might just need to wait for things to clarify — which can happen as soon as Thursday and Friday. These are super days to explore ideas, situations and (yes!) romantic matters. Have at it in your energetic fashion! You’re super-hot now. When the weekend comes, money might be on your mind — or maybe it should be. How’s that budget?

You can give it your level best (which is very, very good) on Monday, but work or other projects (or just people) may be a bit of a struggle to deal with. By Tuesday and Wednesday, however, the energy shifts for the better — you can even achieve an understanding of a situation (or an understanding with a certain someone) that you’ve been hoping and striving for. You may be inclined to grab an option that presents itself on Thursday or Friday, but a little tweaking or another choice could be best. With the weekend comes a major chance of romance. You’re hot now — show it!

Go beyond the superficial stuff on Monday to get to the heart of the matter. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, you’ve likely got something to share, but (for once!) the right words or the right time could be elusive. Heed your instincts on this one. The end of the workweek brings active, expressive energy that’s much better suited to taking the initiative and letting others (or one certain other!) in on your ideas, plans and feelings. This weekend, knowledge is power. Get lots of input and information, observe carefully and deepen your understanding.

Let logic and your feelings both have their say on Monday, rather than exclusively relying on the former or getting carried away with the latter. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, it’s your instinct that’s your best guide. As far as understanding others — especially in a romantic context! — you’re all over it now. At the end of the workweek, you’re thinking fast and changing your mind faster. Hold off on saying anything until you’re sure. This weekend, both home and socializing are favored, and (bonus!) others are very responsive to you.

Go with the proverbial flow on Monday; things are changing fast, and you want to keep up. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, you might inspire a surprising reaction at work or in your personal life. What exactly is going on? Asking won’t hurt — be direct, and listen to your intuition, too. Learning something or meeting someone new — or both — renews your lease on life at the end of the workweek. Show the cosmos your curiosity, and you’ll discover some surprising stuff! When the weekend comes, your career’s in the stars, whether you’re on the clock or not.

Monday’s got your wheels turning, and an imaginative idea might send you in a whole new direction. Then it looks like a relationship’s in the forefront around Tuesday and Wednesday, with change in the air. Tread carefully, and allow room for some important evolution — for yourself as well as the situation. If you’re hoping for forward motion, the end of the workweek is made for taking action. Stand up for what you want! When the weekend comes, a little trip or a fresh experience inspires you — and you can also achieve most anything you put your mind to.

Monday’s an oddly romantic day, so if you’ve got love on your mind, don’t delay! Friends and coworkers appreciate you more now, too — and around Tuesday and Wednesday, the feeling’s likely to be mutual, when they help you out with many aspects of your busy life. The going could be slightly tough now, but by Thursday and Friday, things are smooth again. You’ll see connections and patterns with fresh clarity — and see ways to make positive changes, too. When the weekend comes, relax and enjoy, and balance any indulgences with rest and exercise.

The new week’s energy might inspire you to make changes on Monday, but get input from family or coworkers who could be impacted by your whirlwind! Around Tuesday and Wednesday, inspiration in the love department is on its way. The coupled-up can rekindle now, while singletons are giving off sparks. Don’t neglect online flirting and networking — you’re on fire there, too! There’s a better way than a conflict or power struggle at the end of the workweek — find it. When the weekend comes, sports or a game give you an outlet for bountiful energy and drive. You’re in it to win it!

aquarius

pisces

The world’s better with you in it on Monday! Dive in and make some positive waves — they’re magnified by the stars. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, though, you’ll want to check on finances, at work and personally, because a tidal change might take you by surprise. Exploring new waters is favored at the end of the workweek. You’ve got amazing radar for the right ideas, places and people to head for now. With the weekend comes a reminder from the past, whether your own, your family’s or even something from history. A discovery’s there for you.

Monday’s a whirlwind! Working with a partner or talking things over with a friend helps you stay centered amid it all. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, you’re highly attuned to the nuances of situations and people. Your energy’s magical — what will you pull out of the hat? At the end of the workweek, life or love may be puzzling, but instead of waiting or fretting, look for key pieces and patterns. This kind of atmosphere holds possibilities for you. And when the weekend comes, any and all possibilities are promoted by the stars. Seek and you shall find!

Look for smarter alternatives on Monday. Linking up with someone who has an unusual outlook can help. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, you may be feeling nostalgic. Thinking about the past is fine; dwelling on it, not so much. Consider the lessons you’ve learned and how they’re helping you find your life path now. The cosmic energy should pull you right into every delicious moment on Thursday and Friday; life favors fun and games and even love. You’re hot! This weekend, practicality comes in handy, and you’re seeing the nuances of situations. Build and finesse!

Short-term plans may go awry on Monday — there could be oversleeping, double-booking and similar mishaps. But don’t worry: The stars favor what you put together long-term now. Around Tuesday and Wednesday, your imagination’s clamoring for some attention. Give that creative side something to chew on — if music, art and performance are involved, that’s even better. At the end of the workweek, you’re getting serious, whether about work, an extracurricular project or a relationship. Your stick-to-it-iveness is impressive, and when the weekend comes, you’re able to apply it to the serious business of having fun and amping up romance. Hot!
