a midsummer day’s dream prints by Tena durrani Tena Durrani’s new line of dreamy floral prints draws from a range of artistic and cultural references. An avid reader and enthusiastic traveller, this season Tena was influenced by the overpowering sunflowers in Van Gogh’s paintings, the lyrical passion of Spanish Flamenco dancers and the softly hypnotic beauty of Dante Gabriel Rosetti’s Pre-Raphaelite heroines. Throw in the charm of Monet’s Impressionistic palettes, and you have a highly evocative collection that pays homage to the past, yet looks to the future. The feminine silhouettes are both classic and contemporary: think bohemian palazzos, tiered tops, kimono capes and flattering A-line shapes. The Tena Durrani woman emerges as a floral nymph, who embodies the delicate beauty of a rose peppered with the delightful radiance of a sunflower.

PAPERAZZI MAGAZINE

2014

By now you must be familiar with Mumbai film industry. How are you feeling about Bollywood? It’s been a ride. Where I am happy to be making a mark, I’m also scared of not landing on the expectations of my fans. I’m getting familiar with the geography of the city. I know that pehle Bandra aata hai, then Juhu, and then Andheri but there is definitely scope for more “Bollywoodisation”. Now that we are promoting Khoobsurat, I find it exhausting to talk so much about myself. I’m a man of few opinions, which I prefer to keep to myself. As it is, there is too much noise all the time. Why add to it? Your character Zaroon in the Pakistani romantic drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai is immensely popular in India. Are there any similarities between the two of you? Just the romantic part Why did you choose Khoobsurat as your Bollywood debut? Because it’s a classic romantic movie. As a newcomer, I felt it was better to attempt something safe rather than something that is overtly intellectual. You enjoy huge stardom in Pakistan. Has it been difficult to begin again in a new film industry?

Yes, it’s difficult but had I started from scratch, then, perhaps my ego would not have allowed me to try out Bollywood. I took up this offer with the attitude ki dekhte hain kya hoga (let’s see what happens)! I want the characters that I inhabit to create a ripple, even if it’s a seven-minute role. You always wanted to be an actor? I stumbled into acting. When I was in my first year of college, a friend offered me a role in a slapstick comedy shows he was making titled Jutt and Bond. The money was great and I had to play an idiot on screen, so I took it up without a thought. Then, I quit acting and started my band, EP (Entity Paradigm). My friends feel that I could have pursued a solo music career. But by this time, my wife Sadaf (then my girlfriend) started getting marriage proposals and I realised that I had to take a few decisions. My father-in-law was a civil servant — I definitely didn’t want him to see Jutt and Bond. To make a good impression, I took up various 9-to-5 jobs — I worked in a construction firm, I even packed boxes. Around that time, the same friend persuaded me to return to acting.I’ve been really lucky. I’m very lazy but I do things only if my heart is in it. I’m trying to change now because bills have to be paid. Any preference for selecting roles in Film or Drama? , do you feel trapped by your looks? I pose to be good-looking; actually I’m not (laughs). I feel it is necessary for me as an actor to try out something new. I’d

love to try out facial prosthetics for a role. I must mention my show Akbari Asghari where I really went out of my comfort zone. In fact, the uglier I looked in the show, the better it worked for my character. Versatility is just an illusion. There are very few actors in this world who are truly versatile. For instance, if I mention Anthony Hopkins, who comes to your mind? Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs, right? He’s done great roles but he’ll always be Hannibal Lecter first. Marlon Brando did fabulous roles but he had the same style, which we now call Brando-esque. I never get why Shah Rukh Khan is criticised for doing the same kind of romantic roles. How many different ways can he look at a woman? He can try four-five combinations. The thing about great actors is that they know which combination of skills they want to juggle and they disguise it well.

What is your preference TV or Movies? Too early to comment, let me experience more to make a better judgment. How do you maintain balance in your life and work? I try to control the quantity of the work i commit myself to.

Any favorites in Bollywood? I grew up on Amitabh Bachchan films like Do Aur Do Paanch, Mr Natwarlal, Satte Pe Satta, Shahenshah. I love this dialogue Rishte mein toh hum tumhare baap lagte hain from Shahenshah. I’ve also seen Mr India several times. What’s your future plan about working for movies and dramas in India and Pakistan I’m currently in talks for a Pakistani film and a couple of Bollywood films. I’m staying away from television for a while. According to you, your first break in acting? I guess it was Khuda Keh Liyey that first brought attention from Film and Tv producers. How Bollywood industry is different from local one. I have only really experienced TV in Pakistan. When i do a movie now I will be in a better position to comment. How was your experience in India? So far it's been a great experience. A lot of love and affection amongst those who appreciated my work. And there is no fuss about my being a Pakistani. They express their feelings about me as one of their own. Share your experience with Sonam Kapoor? An excellent host. An extremely intelligent and talented individual. And above all a down to earth, genuine human being. She's a really honest person and I really appreciate that about her. 2014

sukaina ta q i jaffer Being a bride is possibly one of the most difficult processes one goes through! We plan our wedding day and what we will wear years before the actual wedding. Meticulous planning goes into each look from the colour combinations and embellishment of the outfits to the jewellery, hair and makeup. Here we feature some of our favourite brides and show you what they wore to their special days. Find out what they have to say!

For our Dholki I opted for an Indian look, lehnga choli. Two of my favorite colors are coral/watermelon pink and blue, so when I saw this unstitched ensemble at an exhibition in Singapore (which is where I lived before I got married) I knew I had to have it. My jewellery was a modern polki set designed by my mother’s friend in India. I went to Natasha Salon for my make up, and Sabrina did my hair. I love that duo! My make up was natural and hair was a messy fish tail. I don’t like a structured hairstyle so I was very happy with the final look and it stayed that way the entire night!

My husband’s family is Kutchi Memon and it is tradition for them to wear Bhandani outfits with Memoni work during weddings. The fabric and borders were from Kuchh in India and Sania Maskatiya assembled it for me and gave me a beautiful gold worked Izzar to match the borders. I chose to wear my grandmother’s set since I wanted a part of her with me on my special day. Since my mom’s side is Sindhi, it was a traditional gold set with what they call Dhori and pendant. My make up was done by Shamain who decided my look and I thought it worked amazingly.

For our joint reception I wore Umar Sayeed. I always knew I wanted to wear white. Umar’s designs are modern and impactful at the same time, which is what I wanted. Umar made me an exquisite shirt, and my skirt had a lot of tulle underneath for that cancan effect. My dupatta was scalloped lace with hand embroidery. Shamain who is simply brilliant did my make up! I looked like myself but just a more glamorous version. My jewelry is all my mother’s doing. She has impeccable taste and designed this diamond set which was made in Dubai.

That awesome new idea you come up with as the week gets started? Before you dash off a mass email, bounce it off a key person. Family — or your family of friends — is in the stars starting on Tuesday, so over the next couple of days, make sure things with them are on the up and up. If a relationship’s worth having, it’s worth fostering. Speaking of relationships, the more amorous side of life is highlighted on Thursday, Friday and Saturday — how’s love going for you? You can always make it better, whether you’re single or coupled up, especially now. You’re hot! Let the errands wait until Sunday.

You’re liable to do something rash as the week begins! If it’s letting someone know how you really feel, maybe it’s a good thing; if it involves money, slam on the brakes. Your energy will mellow out considerably around Wednesday. It’s a fine time to do domestic things or enjoy your own backyard instead of running around, and your wallet will thank you, too. Then your patience will come in handy at the end of the workweek, whether in a work or personal context. Explain nicely — maybe twice! With the weekend comes the potential for some summer lovin’. If you’re into it, now’s the time!

You’re the star of the show at the beginning of the week if the stars have their say! Your way with networking and flirting is especially favored now — just watch the overlap! Around Wednesday, though, interpersonal stuff may take more effort. Can you strengthen a relationship, or negotiate instead of fighting? Then you’ll be sharp as a tack starting Thursday, with creative power and analytical ability to boot. It’s great for work and for play. When the weekend comes around, though, find a little peace and quiet here and there, alone or with a certain someone.

Taking direction isn’t your strong suit on Monday, but try to take it in stride. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are your power days this week, at work, in love and in whatever you choose to put your heart into. Others will be coming to you for direction, and being asked your opinion will feel great. Take a little extra time in answering each question that’s posed, and you’ll be an all-star across the board. Around Friday, you might feel like celebrating life; just don’t overdo it! You’ll want plenty of energy for lots of projects this weekend.

leo

virgo

libra

scorpio

You’re easily swayed on Monday, so make sure you’re listening to quality people and getting all the facts. Over the next couple of days, your natural pride will be a good thing — it means you’ll do the best you can, both at work and in your personal life. But if you really want to shine, just wait until Thursday, Friday and Saturday, when the stars do their very best on your behalf, making life — and maybe love — beautiful. Your connections with others will be remarkable; this is what it’s all about. Enjoy the heck out of it, but don’t neglect a practical matter when Sunday comes.

Your diligence on Monday will make all the difference. Pay extra attention, both with facts or figures and when it comes to people and feelings. Then, a gathering of some sort is in order over the next few days. Say yes to invitations, and put together a little shindig of your own. You don’t have to get every detail perfect — spur-of-the-moment can be great! At the end of the workweek, watch out for double-bookings, things (or people) running late and other logistical issues. But when the weekend comes, the stars smile on you and what you do. What’s your top priority now?

There are at least two sides to every story as the week gets going, and you’re delving into all the angles and fitting different perspectives together. Good for you — get someone else in on the act to help (and to make it more fun). And around Wednesday, get ready to accentuate the positive. Things can’t always go off without a hitch, but look for lessons learned and all’s not lost. If you come up with an especially creative idea, the star will send you a push towards getting started on Thursday. Then all through the weekend, you’ll have amazing vision — and all kinds of charm. Sweet!

Use your awesome powers of focus on Monday, and something that you missed before will jump right out at you. Nice catch! Then can you let yourself dream a little around Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday? Giving that fierce determination and analytical ability a rest can feel amazingly good — not to mention the incredible places your mind will go when given lots of leeway. And while Friday may involve some stress, the energy coming this weekend is less intense and more conducive tofriends — maybe even more-than-friends! Make low-key plans and do little favors.

aquarius

pisces

As this week gets underway, you’ve got it going on! Your charm factor’s way up there, and a creative stroke of genius is barely a reach. But around Wednesday, a certain responsibility or routine may seem like a big drag. Assess whether you can divest yourself of it realistically; if not, best to get it done and move on. And there’s plenty to move on to around Thursday, Friday and Saturday — a pleasant surprise awaits, perhaps in the love arena! On Sunday, some downtime allows you to feel rock-solid.

Shifting circumstances are plentiful on Monday — why add to them when you can adapt and surf on through? You do it so well! Then, it’s romantic circumstances that are in the stars around Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The living — and loving — are easy for you right now, whether you’re with a certain someone or looking to meet somebody sweet. Hint: Your messages find their mark now. On Friday and over the weekend, though, you may be inclined to tune a certain message or factor out. It’s not gonna go away just because you ignore it!

Watch out for time-wasters as the week gets going, whether at work or in your personal life. There’s so much to learn and do that you won’t want to spin your wheels when you could be moving! Then if you notice a disconnect around Wednesday, be sure to investigate. What’s fallen through the cracks here? After this investigatory phase, let yourself explore around Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Replace any expectations with sheer anticipation — know it’s gonna be good, but keep an open mind about how! More specific details come into play on Sunday. Honor even a small commitment, and don’t be late.

You can be serious about responsibilities as the week gets going, but let your heart be light. Life’s what you make it, so you might as well enjoy! Then your social life offers a wild card element sometime around Wednesday. Are you interested? Why not give it a shot? When the weekend arrives, the things you find out may amaze you — all you have to do is ask!
