Professionally, I make music and I help other people make music. Musician/ Producer combo. I have been involved in several projects over the years and I'm sure if you have listened to any Pakistani music in the last few years you have heard my work in some form or fashion. I also have been recording talented acts at my studio such as Zoe Viccaji, Hamza|Rubya, Teeen, Natasha Ejaz, Rushk, Maha Kazmi and lots more! I work on commercial projects when something fun comes my way. Personally, I am a father to two lovely daughters and husband to my amazing wife, Eva.

When did you realize you had a passion for music? Have you always wanted to be a musician? My eldest brother had a band, and I was always fascinated by that growing up. But it kicked into high gear around high school. Before that I wanted to be a ninja, and then a pro skateboarder. Thankfully, I settled for a just slightly more realistic goal of being a professional musician. Although, I was never involved in music as a profession until I moved to Pakistan in 2006...I spent a good 15 years just playing the guitar for myself. Actually, I have too much fun playing music to call it a profession. Although there are times when it becomes a chore, but, still, better that than doing some job I hate.

ing guitar. Ahsan has been making waves with his band Sounds of Kolachi and the rest of the guys are seasoned musicians. The idea behind this band is to be a no frills straight to the point band. Our recording process is pretty much as live as it can be, not a lot of overdubs, try and keep it as simple and quick as possible. Here are a few links:

https://www.facebook.com/RaahiBandOfficial And another project is called Chand Tara Orchestra. This band was started by Babar Shaikh, who play How was your experience with Coke Studio? Rebass in the band. It's an experimental project where cording live must have been a huge challenge! we make more ambient sound scapes. Sikandar Muft Coke Studio has been great. It's rare to find such a professional yet creative on drums, and Rizwanullah Khan on Multi-instruments. environment. I learned a lot, and it truly shows the potential that we have in this country, when we put our minds to it. And we rehearse for so long before we get to the recording stage that it's pretty automatic. It's usually more a technical challenge at that point. It definitely builds up a musician's stamina! Are you coming back to Coke Studio next year? If I am asked, sure, I would love to! It's always a fun exercise. It was very enlightening working with Rohail Hyatt. Faisal and Bilal from Strings are taking the show in a exciting new direction. I enjoyed guest appearing on the last season with Meesha, Jawad Ahmed, Jimmy Khan, and Zohaib Hasan. Who are your musical influences? There have been so many over the years. And it has evolved as well, so it's hard to pin it down to just a few. But Mike Patton (Fatih No More) is a huge influence. Plus all the standards, of course, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, I could go on forever. But I also find inspiration in guys like Mohammad Ali and Bruce Lee just because they had such intense personalities, they were rock stars in their fields. A lot of people not involved in the music business have shaped me and who I am which, in turn, affect my music. My departed father, Mohammad Shafique, was always someone I looked up to. I have always tried to emulate his kindness and generosity. A close very friend of mine, Nadeem Chawhan, recently passed away and it hit home how much your friends and family dictate who you are as a person. So, really, everyone I know has been an influence on me musically. https://soundcloud.com/omran-shafique/makki-madnichand-tara-orchestra What kind of music do you listen to? There was a time I was constantly searching for new music. It started with https://www.facebook.com/chandtaraorchestra rock music and the burgeoning hip hop scene in the 80's. I've tamed down a bit, but I still enjoy aggressive or sonically challenging music now and then. What do you love most about living It's a cliche but I listen to everything. At least I try to find the context for the in Karachi? creation of a certain kind of music and learn to appreciate it that way. Never Karachi: never a dull moment! been a huge fan of, say, jazz music but I do appreciate it. I do look for things that are new and creative and that build on previous styles of music, Any advice for an aspiring musiand then, sometimes, I don't . cian? If you could go back in time, what would you do differently? You've worked on multiple projects with some of My advice would be to just keep playing. Whether the leading musicians and artists in the country. anyone is listening or not. And I am happy where I am Tell us about some of your more recent projects. at, of course, hindsight is always 20/20, but, at the risk The most recent project is a band called Raahi. It has Gumby on drums, of losing where I am at right now, I wouldn't change a Sameer Ahmed Bakhtiari on bass, and Ahsan Bari on vocals and I'm playsingle thing. 2015

ayes ha chundrigar Ayesha heads the Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation, a non-profit organization which rescues and rehabilitates injured animals and works with other marginalized communities that society normally ignores. Back in 2013, she took up the challenge of managing and maintaining Edhi Foundation’s nonfunctional animal shelter in Karachi. With limited resources and a handful of volunteers, she has since been successful in providing shelter and medical care to hundreds of injured animals. She also sets up donkey camps across the city on a weekly basis to provide free medical treatment and food to these beasts of burden that are treated atrociously. Having been successful with her first initiative, Ayesha has now expanded the mission of ACF and set up a center for therapeutic healing for emotionally, sexually and physically abused women, children and transgendered persons.

Pfdc Swarovski Crystal Couturiers 2015

The PFDC Swarovski Crystal Couturiers presented a night of fashion showcasing eight capsule designer collections made out of Swarovski crystals, with live music and a sit down dinner with a menu of far eastern delicacies. Proceeds from the event were donated to CARE Foundation.

Karma Élan libas hsy Fahad Hussayn Nomi Ansari Saira Shakira sublime by sara

nomi ansari Nomi Ansari’s “Marmalade” collection drew inspiration from different kinds of fish, birds and mermaids! We loved his varied silhouettes – corsets, bustiers, gowns, paneled skirts – and the exquisitely designed accessories (all made inhouse).

hsy

HSY took us on a magical journey where traditional glamour met modern elegance. Using the finest silks from China, the Chantilly’s of Paris and embroideries from the finest artisans in Punjab, HSY’s cross cultural fusion infused timeless sophistication with chic modernism.

karma Karma’s “Constellation” collection was defined by dramatic volume, exaggerated structured silhouettes and play of sheer fabrics. Inspired by the constellations, celestial bodies and galaxies, this collection had an extremely sexy and powerful impact!

sara shahid Inspired by olive trees – known for their strong roots, faithfulness and steadfastness – Sara Shahid stayed true to her design ethos of creating timeless and understated outfits, with an emphasis on drapery and minimal embellishment. We loved the pairing of the olive flowing fabric and the iridescent Green Swarovski Crystal!

élan Élan’s bejeweled couture collection, “Le Bijou”, showcased dramatic ensembles elaborately draped in shades of silver, gold, ivory, lavender, peach and dove grey! This grand collection comprised of a blend of artistically conceived cuts adorned with gem-encrusted embellishments crafted to an extraordinary level of quality and detail.

libas Sehyr Saigol’s “Statuesque” designs structured evening wear with Swarovski crystals, ornate mamluk patterns and her signature embroidery created a beautiful symmetry between shape and embellishment.

fahad hussayn Fahad Hussayn’s “Dominionatrix” collection was a couture interpretation of Fahad Hussayn’s creatures of darkness. Inspired from the structure and hierarchy of a mythical dominion, Fahad Hussayn played with layers, fabrics and structures, recreating classic renaissance aesthetics into modern wearable silhouettes!

saira shakira Saira Shakira’s capsule collection touches upon history’s most significant periods to illustrate the changing sartorial needs and desires of women over time. From ornate ball gowns and voluminous skirts, to androgynous ensembles, the collection showed the changing trends that continue to define fashion!

The mehndi was an extremely festive affair! I wanted a lehnga choli in a strong, bright colour with lots of volume and sparkle. I’m extremely lucky to have a very talented mother, Mina Hasan, who knew exactly how to bring my ideas into reality. She struck a great balance between the pink and gold. Though it was extremely heavy, I was still able to dance the night away!

Being a bride is possibly one of the most difficult processes one goes through! We plan our wedding day and what we will wear years before the actual wedding. Meticulous planning goes into each look from the colour combinations and embellishment of the outfits to the jewellery, hair and makeup. Here we feature some of our favourite brides and show you what they wore to their special days. Find out what they have to say!

We opted for shades of peach after sampling many different colour combinations. Peach is so feminine and reflects beautifully on our skin tone! I wanted to wear a traditional front open pishwaas cut with a very long trail. We kept the design floral and the palette restricted to just peach and gold. Since you only become a bride once, and it’s the one day you will stay put on stage, we went all out with the drapery and heavy work.

I wanted to keep my valima jora relatively lighter. Other than my mums clothes, the only other designer I would be happy to wear on my wedding would be Elan so my mother-in-law and I flew down to Lahore. Khadijah made me try on three different samples but when I tried this we all knew it was the right choice. The fitted short shirt is perfect for the petite bride, especially if you want to walk around on the day. We balanced it with a heavy dupatta and a beautiful embellished lace lehnga.

They keep you focused, pick you up when you are down and are always there which is simply priceless. You may be hating them sometimes but that’s only beacuse you love them. We get two best friends to tell us what they love and hate about each other.

Legal matters, paperwork and processing are favored on Monday, so if you’ve been putting off such things, procrastinate no more. From Tuesday through most of Thursday, make a concerted effort to understand your emotions rather than just blindly reacting. What’s the source? How can you address it? Find out, and you’ll be ready for some interesting explorations around Friday and Saturday. Maybe it’s career options, maybe romantic ones — take a look around. On Sunday, slow down. Getting grounded now makes for a promising new week.

Monday looks busy, but carve out some time for yourself — a walk, a cup of tea, a little reading. A little pause can be very refreshing. From Tuesday through most of Thursday, you’re liable to be extra passionate — about ideas, your point of view, a certain person. Try to incorporate flexibility; if you do you’ll be ready for anything. Go slow around Friday and Saturday, when situations and motivations are shifting fast. Committing too quickly could get you in a tough spot. On Sunday, though, you’re grounded and good to go.

Though it seems like an unlikely day for love, Monday’s got romance written all over it. You’re whip-smart, too — really the whole package. From Tuesday through most of Thursday, your feelings are evolving in reaction to the world around you, and the closer you observe, the more progress you’ll make. A snail’s pace is actually the most productive now. Expect extremes around Friday and Saturday — good times, bad times … you’ll get your share. Respond with intelligence rather than flippantly, and the former will outweigh the latter. On Sunday, actions speak louder than words.

Be ready to clear up a little miscommunication on Monday — the sooner, the better. Then, from Tuesday through most of Thursday, your emotional reactions are strong, but then again, so is your intuition. You’re just extra-sensitive, which can be a very good thing. If you’ve got tons of social stuff planned around Friday and Saturday, scale back a bit; you’ll want time alone as well (or perhaps alone with a certain someone!). On Sunday, get something done that you’ve been putting off — even if it’s a little thing, the sense of accomplishment will be great

Friendships and more romantic connections are favored on Monday, so be sure to get in touch (maybe literally!). From Tuesday through most of Thursday, if you think somebody doesn’t have your best interests at heart, you’re very likely right. Consider a frank discussion about dovetailing your needs, or consider ending this arrangement. Around Friday and Saturday, look out world, here you come! You’re unstoppable — and unstoppably hot. What’s especially sexy: Your frankness and humor. On Sunday, quiet down and you’ll hear something interesting.

Do some comparison shopping on Monday, whether it’s your work or personal budget that’s at stake (or your heart — there’s a lot out there for the picking in the online personals!). From Tuesday through most of Thursday, remember that people can tell when your attention’s wandering. You’ll get bonus points for tuning in and asking an intelligent, engaged question or two. Then, will you be the responsible one or take a risk around Friday and Saturday? Or, better, how about a little of both? On Sunday, some sweet energy comes your way. A romantic brunch, anyone?

The stars smile on you on Monday, so get up, get going and make the most of your sweet self. From Tuesday through most of Thursday, work, money and material stuff may be uppermost in your mind, but don’t lose track of your usual lovely balance. Be ready to reprioritize according to your values. Watch friendships blossom and your network branch out around Friday and Saturday — and if you’ve got romance on your mind, this is a fine time to pursue that, too. A more serious mood comes on Sunday. What’s on your mind?

Decisions are tough on Monday. Watch out for getting paralyzed by the sheer volume of considerations to take into account. If you can, wait to choose (or at least give yourself room to back out). From Tuesday through most of Thursday, your vision’s renewed and your confidence is strong. Don’t be surprised if you attract a new follower or admirer now. You may be feeling devil-may-care around Friday and Saturday, but don’t get too carried away. Think ahead, at least a bit. On Sunday, you’re thinking more clearly, not to mention communicating beautifully.

You can make a very fruitful new contact on Monday, whether it’s for business, pleasure or a little bit of both. Connections are less than crackling from Tuesday through most of Thursday; you’ve got plenty going on in your own heart and mind to keep you busy, and others may just have to get in line. Tell ‘em they can cash in their rain checks around Friday and Saturday, when you’re ready to focus your attention on people and projects, lending your wit and general wonderfulness to any and all occasions. On Sunday, you’re artistic, whether you’re creating or appreciating.

You’ll be involved in the day-to-day on Monday, and you’d be wise to not push problematic issues — whether at home or with your boss. From Tuesday through most of Thursday, the right path is illuminated by the stars, and you’re pretty much skipping along while whistling. Hint: The more organized you are, the greater your forward motion now. That motion may seem to be reversing around Friday and Saturday, but it’s not as bad as you think. Regroup and rethink your plan. Sunday sends great energy your way — you’re back on track and more.

A new friend — or just a nice smile — comes from an unexpected place on Monday, so keep your eyes and heart open. From Tuesday through most of Thursday, you may be sensitive about your innermost feelings, but sharing them with the right person gives you a sense of connection. Why soldier along solo? Look for your outlook and your sense of life’s possibilities to expand amazingly around Friday and Saturday. New friends, experiences and even love are at your fingertips, so reach out. On Sunday, rest up — but get some exercise to get the blood pumping and the mood elevated, too.

One-on-one relationships or meetings could be tricky on Monday. Look for reasonable compromises and better ways. From Tuesday through most of Thursday, though, recognize when others are being unreasonable and set some limits. Being passive isn’t going to cut it now — get a consult from a friend or mentor if you’re uncertain about what to do. Making the right choices is easy around Friday and Saturday, and you look great while doing it. No need to toot your own horn; you’ll get applause. On Sunday, a talk with a friend far away is fun and fruitful.
