e’ve just driven up to Alhamra Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. She’s all lit up in pretty lights, colourful flags and posters – decorated in the Rafi Peer Theater Workshop’s [RPTW] signature style. The organisation’s 13th Youth Performing Arts Festival [YPAF] is well under way – running from the 16th to the 19th of October, this year. This is the first time since 2008 that the RPTW is back ‘home’ at Alhamra, a few years after the devastating attack on their immensely popular World Performing Arts Festival [WPAF]. Walking to the venue, I’m a little light-headed. Alhamra Gaddafi is exactly where my love for the arts developed, where my exposure to the events at Alhamra instilled within me, a deep admiration for performance, how everyday people would, and could transform into fantastical, otherworldly characters, beings, once on stage, once under the spotlight. And it was my introduction to RPTW’s events, as both a child and young adult, that I chose my career-path: to become

an art and culture journalist, to bring to light Pakistan’s treasure trove of local arts, in addition to those hardworking, insanely talented individuals associated with it.

About seven years ago, the short shirts fashion was waning but not many designers were making long shirts. I knew what I wanted. A long coat with a trail and I found just that at Sana safinaz. I love their design sense and fell in love with one of their latest long net coats with a trail of course. The colour was a light pink wanting to stay away from the traditional red that many brides wore. My mom designed part of my jewelery. My earrings were from India and matching necklace and bracelet ETC. were made here.

We were pretty helpless in terms of the city situation in terms of safety and normalcy to say the least. My advice would be to relax and take it easy because you never know what may happen. There are always factors that u cannot control so relax, take deep breaths and pray you only get married once.

planes, trains & automobiles

Travelling is great fun! You get to explore a new place meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Bio: (Just so you understand why I went there). I have my own events company called ‘The Beauty Concierge’. Through this I set up YK Beauty Studio’s at events and offer the following services: Makeup, Hair styling, Mehndi, YK luxury temporary tattoo, Styling, Nails, Facials, Massages and Yasmin Karimi beauty wedding favours. I am also the founder and Managing director of Yasmin Karimi the brand.

However Puglia has changed my view of holidaying in Europe. Puglia was the location of 2 of the 3 weddings I worked on this summer. It is the same location that Justin Timberlake got married to Jessica Biel. The city is located in the south of Italy, the heel of Italy’s boot. Who did you travel with? I travelled with my amazing team of YK artists. Without them my trusted team I wouldn’t have been able to do such an amazing job. They say you learn a lot from traveling with people and when I travelled with my team it made me realize how grateful I am to have such encouraging supportive people in my life. We had so much fun and created such incredible memories. When at times it got stressful, as I am such a perfectionist, we could just look at each other and laugh which made the whole experience even better.

Tell us about your favourite or one of your favourite destination spots. Where did you choose to go and why? My favourite place to go this summer has been Italy. It is the most romantic place I have ever been to. I have had 3 high profile weddings there this year and all of them were absolutely out of this world. It’s events like these that make me realise how lucky I am to do what I love for a living. Up untill recently I hadn’t been a huge fan of Europe and mt normal holi- Where did you stay? day destinations were the USA, Caribbean islands or the Indian Ocean. We stayed at the most beautiful place ever called Borgo Egnazia, I

travel diaries Why? Because this region is full of charm; it remains authentic yet quintessentially primitive to this day. Since it is mostly a resort, you can pretty much do everything within it. It’s a very small town so there is not a lot to do apart other than relaxing and going to the beaches. wouldn’t have chosen anywhere more perfect to stay. I could go back and visit time and time again. Everything they have is in clean breezy whites and creams, with beautiful candles lit up everywhere. In fact they don’t really use artificial lighting at all, it’s mostly candlelit. It’s in a middle of a jungle, with a beach close by. It is so mesmerisingly peaceful and breathtaking.

What can you do over there to relax and unwind? Every detail and treatment is infused with the soul of southern Italy, and particularly that of Puglia. I really believe in the holistic way of living. Holistic Wellbeing takes an approach which promotes wellbeing through the body and the mind. Yasmin Karimi hair and beauty care is all holistic and 100% natural and organic. So the spas and treatments were perfect for me to feel relaxed in whilst incorporating my own range. The spa there used the most beautiful essential oils, vegetable oils and of course extra virgin oil treatments, which incidentally is also one of the my favourite ingredients to use and is my key signature ingredient in the YK beauty products.

Suggest some amazing restaurants there? Puglia produces 80% of all pasta and extra virgin olive oil, so pasta is understandably amazing here. They also have fresh fish so I ate a lot of fresh salads and fish. Because I was working I mostly ate at the hotel and nearby small family owned restaurants which are the best for experiencing authentic local cuisine.

Finally, any tips? Yes! SKINCARE, this is the perfect time to rejuvenate your body, skin and hair. Take this opportunity to leave your hair au naturale and don;t forget to take your Yasmin Karimi rehydrating hair oil. The sun makes your hair grow faster than normal but unfortunately it can also it out so this is the perfect treatment to use when you’re lounging on the beach or by the pool. Don’t forget to follow the oil treatment with YK organic shampoo and conditioner. Sunblock is a must, as the sun is super damaging to your skin sand can cause early signs of wrinkles and sun damage if you skip on using the right SPF. I always use Heliocare sun block factor 50 and The Harley Street Formulation Vitamin-C serum at all Tell us about the sights times. A good body scrub and rich Vitamin-E body cream is something that will enhance No one should miss out on Condè Nast Traveler recently your sun glow. I use The Bodyshop’s scrub gloves coupled with Nivea Q10 body cream. featured Puglia as one of the world’s 20 most beautiful These are essential in order to get a nice smooth flawless glowing tan.

What is the best shopping spots there? There actually aren’t any shopping places located there, there are mostly some small boutiques where I picked up a few really cool home decorations from. I always love taking unique things back form other cultures for my home. Puglia is more of a getaway holiday not the bustling touristy city life.

Suggest places for a perfect night out. During the spring and summer seasons, Puglia has great outdoor festivals, parties on the beach, and live shows. I attended two amazing beach parties while I was there. One was during the day and although it was extremely hot, there were really cool DJs present, Bollywood’s DJ Sameer and everybody’s favourite DJ Steve Angelo. After dusk parties carried on till 6am by the pools and the moonlight made the whole experience unbelievably beautiful and picturesque.

You are in the early stage of renewal on Monday, and it is uncomfortable and slow going. As early as Tuesday, you’ll feel a lot sprightlier. On Wednesday, bound out of bed early and be the first person in to work. Thursday and Friday find you flexing your muscles, getting things done and polishing your reputation. What you do is almost as important as how you do it. Saturday and Sunday, deliriously happy about your recent successes, you will want to get out a long strip of butcher paper and map out the rest of your life.

The intensity of what you’re going through speaks volumes about how much this person means to you. You don’t necessarily want to publicize how you feel, but people can see it written on your face; talking about it may be a better strategy than pretending to ignore it. A philosophical conversation with an acquaintance on Wednesday will be more useful than you ever expected, and Thursday and Friday find you grounded, curious and happy. And in the mood to travel. You could use a vacation. Get through the weekend — of power struggles and weird interactions — dreaming of sandy beaches.

Life is laid out like a math problem for you on Monday, and you spend the day trying to determine which are the relevant variables. This calculating mindset cuts through everything else and will be helpful on Tuesday and Wednesday as well, during a deep, intelligent dialogue with your most brilliant friend (as many insights as you have, preaching is not going to work). Thursday and Friday, your interactions with others are more difficult than usual, especially interactions related to business. Saturday and Sunday, you are submerged in big ideas.

It’s as if you’re on a ship in a storm: One minute there’s a chair sitting next to you; the next minute it’s all the way across the room. With everything slipping and sliding, Monday isn’t the time to get involved with anything long-term and binding. Wait until things settle and you know exactly what you’re working with. Tuesday and Wednesday, do something rejuvenating (a trip to the spa? a swim?) and Thursday and Friday, don’t worry about doing very little (what’s on TV?). Saturday and Sunday offer plenty of opportunities to see friends. Just be careful you don’t get into a spat over money.

A beautiful antique makes its way into your life on Monday — or maybe it’s something else you’ve been collecting. In any case, Monday is like that: rewarding, slightly self-centered, not super energetic. Then, Tuesday, a comet of love crashes into Earth and the scorching fires of romantic bliss burn brightly through Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, the fires will have died out and you’ll be returned to everyday terrain, albeit with a few embers glowing in the corners. Friday, you are preoccupied by others, but this weekend your mind returns to the topic of love.

Everyone has different ways of getting through the day, and different ways of seeing things. You are interested in someone else’s perspective on Monday, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll agree with them. Tuesday and Wednesday, your vim and vigor is no match for the inactivity everywhere else, which drags you down a bit, at least until Thursday. Thursday and Friday are bright days filled with hot air balloons and sweet romance. Be open-minded this weekend and you’ll learn a fantastic and effortless new way of doing something that’s always been a pain in the neck.

Being good with your money is not just about being selfish, it’s also about being smart. Nevertheless, Monday’s financial dealings get you thinking about values — not a bad thing to be thinking about. Tuesday and Wednesday are about feelings and expression; your current projects are challenging you in ways you didn’t expect. Thursday, you wake up feeling weird for no discernable reason, and Friday finds you feeling nostalgic about nothing in particular. The weekend offers focus, romance and fun. You and you-know-who are clearly going to take over the world.

You are the sun and your friends are the planets; you are their center of gravity. You’d have it no other way: It’s incredibly flattering to be depended upon by so many people who are fabulous in their own right. Tuesday and Wednesday are defined by philosophical questions and the likelihood of being led along by others — you might find yourself buying something you have little use for — but Thursday and Friday, you are shrewd, determined and in control. Less can be said for this weekend. There is tension at home, and something someone says may spark an unexpected outburst. But look on the bright side: At least it will clear the air.

aquarius

pisces

The future of your career has never seemed less clear to you. Monday is a typical Monday, except that you have some major nagging questions in the back of your mind as well. Commiserate with friends on Tuesday to get some perspective. Then, you’ll go into Wednesday with a sense of expansiveness, a sense that anything is possible. Let this feeling last. Thursday and Friday, you have too much to do to be abstract and future-thinking, but Saturday and Sunday are great, inspiring days. You’ll have all the time in the world to dwell on whatever you like.

Legal and financial matters are fuzzy at the start of the week. If you have a transaction to take care of on Monday, make sure you do it in person. Tuesday and Wednesday, you don’t have to be as careful — everything goes your way naturally — but pay extra attention and take care to do the right thing, and you’ll make major headway on several plans you once thought impossible. Thursday and Friday, a friend is in need of some help and might not know how to ask for it. Anticipate this. Saturday and Sunday, you’re in a giving mood as well. Your advice is brilliant, so hand it out generously.

sagittarius capricorn 23November/21December

22December/20January

You’re in deep processing mode on Monday, and you might feel like being alone. Your subconscious is on overdrive right now, trying to reconcile your internal picture with the big picture outside of you. Your friends may be of some help in sorting all this out on Tuesday and Wednesday — an exploration of some kind is perfect for the group’s energy — and Thursday and Friday, putting your eyeballs in front of some art is a fine idea. Stimulation is good. Original thinking is good. Saturday and Sunday, you talk so much — to friends, to strangers, to yourself even — that your jaw hurts.

Getting organized is the first step. You are in the right mindset to make some long-term decisions on Monday, but you want to make sure all your ducks are in a row. (Your ducks may not be as orderly as they appear.) Tuesday and Wednesday, discipline is key. You may have sudden pangs of worry that what you thought was possible isn’t possible. Pish posh! Ridiculous! You can do anything, as Thursday and Friday attest. Your accomplishments by week’s end are impressive, but you’ve only just begun. This weekend, you clear off the kitchen table and set to work on a number of new plans.
