DEF Thaw Control Mode
After starting the engine, the system uses the DEF temperature sensor and the ambiant air temperature within the first two seconds to determine if the DEF is frozen.
• If the DEF is frozen, the system starts Thaw Control Mode and turns on the DEF pump, tank, and tube heaters. Engine maximum torque may be limited to protect DEF injector.
• At 15% DEF tank level (Low), warning lamp is illuminated (solid yellow, Warning level 1)
• At 5% DEF tank level (Empty). warning lamp flashes yellow and Inducement Level 1 is initiated
- Engine torque reduced 50%, engine speed reduced 40%
- After 40 minutes of Level 1 Inducement, Warning Level 2 lamp is illuminated (flashing red)
• After 45 minutes of Level 1, Inducement Level 2 is initiated (flashing red DPF symbol + solid stop lamp)
- No available engine torque, engine idle only
• At 0% DEF tank level, the tank has leakage and inducement Level 2 is initiated (probably already initiated)
- No available engine torque, engine idle only
- No DPF regeneration and no DEF injection (no cooling effect for DEF injector available)
• Inducement progressively reduces engine performance in stages, limiting useful work and motivating the operator to add DEF to the DEF tank
• Once the tank is refilled, engine performance is restored
• If DEF is not frozen, the system begins normal operation once the exaust reaches operating temperature.
Engine Stop - Cool Down and DEF Purge
When an SCR engine is turned off, DEF injetion also stops, but the DEF pump circulates DEF for up to 10 mintues to cool the DEF injector. The pump then reverses for up to 2 minutes to return any DEF back to the tank. This purges the DEF tubes to protect them from freeze damage.
WARNING: DO NOT DISCONNECT BATTERY FOR 12 MINUTES after shut down to allow for complete cool down & DEF purge

Grease Basics
Choosing the right grease to effectively lubricate moving parts is critical as it replaces dry friction. Grease is most commonly needed where oil fails to deposit or collect, such as gears and bearings. Understanding the speed, load or action of the moving part will guide you in selecting the correct grease.
Conditions such as ambient and operating temperatures, water resistance, and oxidation stability are also factors that should be considered when choosing the right grease. Equally important, is understanding grease performance characteristics such as base oil viscosity, grade of grease and thickener type.
There are many advantages of grease lubricants, including consistent lubrication, resistance to leaking, and protection of moving parts under heavy load conditions and in hard to reach places.
Tech Tips
Grease, oil or any lubricant is not a permanent, lasting substance and will need to be replaced as it has a limited service life. Keeping gears and bearings greased at proper intervals will ensure long lasting, optimum performance.
The Seven main functions of grease:
• Protect and lubricate moving parts
• Shield components from rust and corrosion
• Free flowing at all temperatures
• Stay in place and intact under maximum pressure and loads
• Provide seal to keep contaminants out of lubrication points
• When exposed to water, must remain stable and continue to lubricate
• Easily pumped/transferred in auto-lube systems at varying temperatures
Kubota branded grease meets and exceeds lubricating needs including off-road and on-road conditions. The specially formulated grease options will save you money and valuable time as your equipment will run smoother, longer and require less labor and operating costs.
To ensure reliable machinery and equipment performance, proper lubrication is paramount. Failure to provide the correct and adequate lubrication will result in premature part wear and failure.
Grease contamination plays a big role in the performance of grease. Varying heat, exposure to water, different bearing loads and dust will challenge even the best of lubricants. Kubota Grease is designed to offer you maximum protection against these threats and conditions. NLGI No. 2 grease is the most common grease for regular bearing, bushing and universal joint applications.
Having a working knowledge and education of effective machinery maintenance enables the user to apply the ideal amount of lubrication at the proper operating intervals.
The 4 Kubota grease products include Synthetic, Moly-Lithium, Polyurea and Lithium Complex. They are designed around the following criteria:
• Application
• NLGI grade
• Product formulation related to wear
The grease application may be more of a generalpurpose need or that of a specific need. Thickeners in grease and the formula are very important to the grease’s wear and performance. The thickener provides the consistency and maintains the integrity needed throughout the usage and application. Thickener also effects and controls the temperature range of the grease in the various applications.
Tech Tips
The NLGI grade tells the user the thickness and stiffness of the grease. The NLGI scale begins with 000, 00, 0 or 1 and goes up to 6. The grade closest to fluid or regular oil, meaning very thin grease is a 000 rating. The thickest grade of grease is the No. 6. This is a solid, non-pumpable material type of grease. The most common grease is a No. 2 and has the thickness of a paste, or car wax looking type texture.
When grease becomes exposed to other elements, such as water, excessive heat and/or cold, they’re significantly affected by the thickener formulation used.
Understanding the classifications and physical properties of the grease is crucial to the selection. You will see such performance terms such as oxidation stability, weld point, dropping point, wash out and even rust testing used to describe grease products. Various types of grease can be used and called for on the same machine. While general purpose greases are attractive, there are certain applications calling for specific wear properties the operator will want to consider on each machine. Reading the machine’s operating manual is essential to the selection of the right grease.
Displaying the right grease and knowledge behind it makes a powerful combination!
