Fresh from its international premiere at the 2021 Berlin International Film Festival, coming-of-age story Any Day Now follows an Iranian family in Finland awaiting a decision on their asylum application.

13-year-old Ramin Mehdipour (Aran-Sina Keshvari) and his Iranian family have been living in a refugee centre in Finland as they wait to hear their fate. With his eternal optimist dad Bahman (Iranian star Shahab Hosseini), mum Mahtab (Shabnam Ghorbani) and little sister Donya, the family is enjoying a perfect Finnish summer.

As Ramin enjoys the final weeks of the school holidays, the family receives news that their asylum application has been denied. The Mehdipours file a final appeal and continue with their everyday lives, trying to keep a positive attitude despite the looming danger of deportation.

As he starts the new school year, every moment, every friendship feels more precious than ever.

Loosely based on the childhood experiences of Finnish-Iranian debut director Hamy Ramezan, Any Day Now is a warm-hearted slow-burn family drama filled with a summery energy.

“A celebration of the quietly humane, neatly and delicately told.”
