PLACE BEGINS 2015 BY HITTING THE SAND WITH OLYMPIANS FOR FUNDRAISER
FOLLOWING A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL AND FAST-PACED 2014, PLACE HAS BEGUN 2015 BY PROUDLY ANNOUNCING ITS PARTICIPATION IN THE BATTLE AGAINST OVARIAN CANCER BEACH VOLLEYBALL EVENT, WITH THE AIM OF SEEING AN END TO CANCER. After overwhelming interest from staff, Place has registered two full teams for the corporate challenge taking place on February 22. Place Managing Director, Paul Curtain, said Place was honoured to be taking part in the significant fundraising event. “The team at Place is proud to announce that we are taking a stand in support of the fight against women’s cancers. With more than 4,000 Australian women diagnosed each year - and almost 1,000 in Queensland alone - it’s a vital cause to support,” Mr Curtain explained. 2
The corporate beach volleyball event aims to raise funds for the Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation. The event will see the Place team in the mix with five-time Olympic beach volleyball champion, Natalie Cook, who hosts the event annually. Mr Curtain explained why Place quickly seized the opportunity to take part in the Brisbane event. “At Place, community involvement is an integral part of our organisation, so the opportunity for us to fuse a life-changing fundraising venture together with community participation was an opportunity that Place immediately committed to. “The Place team hopes our strong involvement in the event, combined with our significant fundraising efforts, will help to win the long-term fight against cancer,” Mr Curtain said. Mr Curtain also described the significant staff response to participate in the initiative.
“Place had an overwhelmingly positive response from staff in response to the Battle. There was so much interest and enthusiasm generated from our multiple offices, that we decided to register not one, but two full teams to participate on the day,” Mr Curtain explained. Professor Andreas Obermair, Founder of the Cherish Foundation and Research Director for the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer, said he was overwhelmed by Place’s level of commitment. “We have truly been blown away by Place’s energy and enthusiasm. It’s wonderful to see the whole company embrace the Corporate Battle Challenge - a new initiative for 2015 - and we cannot wait to see their battles unfold on the beach volleyball court and in the fundraising stakes.
“On behalf of the Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation, I want to express my sincere thanks to Place. Your efforts will help fund vital research including clinical trials conducted at the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer Research (QCGC) to identify less invasive, gentler and more effective treatments for women’s cancer sufferers,” Professor Obermair said. Mr Curtain agreed that the Cherish Foundation contributes endlessly to the lives of many. “The Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation does a remarkable job in assisting women fighting cancer. At Place, we have rallied our staff and we will be urging our network of contacts to donate to this important fundraising event,” Mr Curtain said. THE CHERISH WOMEN’S CANCER FOUNDATION IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANISATION WHICH AIMS TO INCREASE AWARENESS AND FUNDS FOR RESEARCH INTO GYNAECOLOGICAL CANCERS. THE RESEARCH IS UNDERTAKEN AT THE QUEENSLAND CENTRE FOR GYNECOLOGICAL CANCER (QCGC) LOCATED WITHIN THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND. The event will take place Sunday February 22 at Sandstorm Beach Club on Mains Road, Nathan, and will see Place take part in a friendly (or ruthless) round-robin style beach volleyball tournament.
