COORPAROO

HEATING UP AS A BRISBANE HOTSPOT

WITH ITS PROXIMITY TO SCHOOLS, SHOPS AND PARKS, AND ONLY FOUR KILOMETRES SOUTH-EAST OF THE CBD, THE BOOMING, LEAFY AND CENTRALISED SUBURB OF COORPAROO IS EMERGING AS A KEY BRISBANE SUBURB TO WATCH. Historically, Coorparoo was known as Four Mile Camp, with the suburb having been part of the Bulimba Divisional Board since 1879. However, in 1888, as a result of dissatisfaction with this alignment, a petition was taken resulting in the creation of the Shire of Coorparoo. Soon after, the suburb was named simply Coorparoo; understood by residents to be the Aboriginal name for Norman Creek. Settlement of the area dates back to the 1850s, with land in the area used mainly for farming purposes. Gradual growth in the 2

area was seen in the 1880s, and again once more in the early 1900s. However, significant development did not occur in the area until the interwar period. The suburb provides a broad array of captivating and historically significant property types and in many places feature sweeping views of the CBD. The vast green spaces found in this attractive suburb provide the perfect environment for all demographics, as well as the vibrancy and buzz that families and young executives desire. Coorparoo is known for consistently providing the best of both worlds. Co-Director of Place Coorparoo, Andrew Bradley, has seen generations of buyers and sellers who have lived and sold in the area. Mr Bradley notes that much of the desirability for the suburb lies in its variety. “What I love about Coorparoo is the true diversity of the people who live here. We see everyone from first home owners, young professionals, owners of companies through to retirees. This broad demographic range adds so much culture to the area. This, combined with Coorparoo’s coffee shops, schools and stores, means that it is a place people love. Coorparoo’s proximity to the CBD and Gold Coast is sensational and a significant trend I’ve noticed over the years is that people who leave often eventually return on a permanent basis,” Mr Bradley said. A proven market performer, Coorparoo is a true familyoriented area, with excellent access to amenities including large shopping centres, both private and public schooling options, a vast array of local boutiques, public transport options (both train and buses are available) and both walking and cycling tracks.
