Blend Scandinavian design with Australian materials and you’ll get Nood Co, a concrete furniture and homewares company, mixed, laid and set in Australia. Nood Co is a solution driven, design company that takes ‘stereotypical, bland concrete’ and turns it on its head to produce dining tables, sinks, coffee tables, side tables, café tables, stools, mirrors, bowls and homewares, with more designs in the works. Meet Matt Di Costa, the face seen on Channel 9’s The Block and one of the brains behind Nood Co. It all started six years ago, when Matt and his wife Kim were scrolling through Pinterest for renovation inspiration. “We wanted to make a few concrete pieces for our home renovation. With research, we soon discovered two things. One, that concrete was tough to deal with and two, that there weren’t any companies out there that had addressed the problems of concrete such as weight and transportability.” After finding this gap in the market, they filled it with concrete. “Concrete is beautiful but reasonably unexplored. We felt we could take it to the next level by adding colour, design, strength and overall consideration. The gap in the market was there due to how difficult the task was. Nood Co took the time and are proud to be at the forefront of concrete design.”

The business name ‘Nood Co’ evolved organically and conceptualises their unique business ethos. “Nood (nude) means bare concrete. Beautifully naked just as it is. We spelt it Nood because of the curves in our product. It is feminised concrete that depends on its form and design.” A testament to the malleability and convenience of the material, when we asked Matt to give one piece of advice on styling with concrete, he gave us three. 1. Think past grey. Nood Co have 7 concrete colours available and with the removal of grey comes a shifted focus to form and design. 2. Concrete and timber has and always will be a hit. Not only do their colours blend perfectly, but they are raw materials. That really speaks to Aussies. 3. Concrete doesn’t have to be the hero anymore. The Nood range is subtle, feminine and can often compliment the materials and pieces around it.
