Architectural Portfolio(2015-2020) Palash Trivedi
“Seen from an aeroplane high in the air, even the most gigantic skyscraper is only a tall stone block, a mere sculptural form, not a real building in which people can live. But as the plane descends from the great heights there will be one moment when the buildings change character completely. Suddenly, they take on human scale, become houses for human beings like ourselves, not the tiny dolls observed from the heights. This strange tranformation takes place at the instant when the contours of the buildings begin to rise above the horizon so that we get a side view of them instead of looking down on them. The buildings pass into a new stage of existence, become architecture in place of neat toys - for architecture means shapes formed around man, formed to be lived in, not merely to be seen from outside.”
-Steen Eiler Rasmussen, Experiencing Architecture
“On the whole, art should not be explained; it must be experienced.”
It’s all about the Experience....
Architecture has various aspects to it; some buildings are based on the religious aspects or some spaces are means to address various Socio-economic and Socio-cultural problems while some spaces are tools to dwell and to progress. some buildings are just for celebration while some are used for cremation. But the most fundamental aspect of any work of architecture is that it provides certain experiences to its users and experiences is what shapes the Human Life. The more profound your experience of life, the richer your life will become. Thus, I am interested in the phenomenological aspects of the architecture, how the spaces generate emotions in our mind and creates various vivid experiences is what fascinates me. As the ultimate aim of the design is to provide a Desired Experience to the people. I seek to learn and explore the various methods by which a Specific emotion or set of emotions can be generated in the user’s mind, therefore providing the desired experience through the language of architecture, just as how beats, tones, rhythm’s, scales etc are used in music to generate a specific emotion.

A place where art persists for itself, dissolved in the dynamic public space of a foot-over bridge, it provides multiple opportunities to the public to engage with arts and artists and provokes thought to inspire the artist within. Thus, it is an attempt of proliferating arts by bridging the gap between arts, culture, and life.
1 Competition: Bharat Bhavan 2020 UNi | Competitions ( Group of 2 members) If we could ever implement this vision where every state could have a Bharat Bhavan in the context of today, how would it be? If we perceive a similar vision made possibe today, what story would you tell about the place through architeture? How will this new cultural venture bridge the ideas of the place-country and the world? How will your design speak of the newer interpretations and aspirations of it people, its culture, its daily life and its embodient into a particular centre like this? Design Chalange: to build a new Bharat Bhavan in the context of 2020 encapsulating things that have Made India and are Made in India. This thought can extend t its art froms, to people, cuture, technologies, foods, techniques, theatre, performing arts, dance, rituals, film, music, fine arts and a lot more.
How did you choose the site? What specific qualities did you look for in it? Gujarat has always been very rich in its arts and literature for many years. Its artistic heritage comprises a wide range of various art forms like music, dance, apparels rangolis, etc. But there has not been any such place where all arts can get merge and create a wholistic expression of art, which gives a place for the existing arts to shine as well as which will pave the path to new kinds of arts to prosper. The UNESCO World heritage city Ahmedabad can be a very good platform for the artists of Gujarat to represent their arts to the global level and to expand his boundaries. The Selected patch in Sabarmati riverfront is a dedicated zone for Knowledge and institutional purpose. Moreover, we have chosen to merge the Bharat Bhavan into the proposed Foot-over bridge which is under construction on that place, thus the bridge will act as a magnet for the public to gather and Bharat Bhavan will hold them to give a unique experience of arts over the river.
Process
How would the cultural venue bridge the gap between the ideas of a place country and world? The nature of arts has changed significantly over time, so the static museums and art galleries have become mundane in the new age of digitalization, they are less immersive and expressive. So, to proliferate arts to the newer generations there needs to be a place more dynamic and interesting, which can attract made of representation has been based on digital media which provides a more immersive experience to the user. The functions are flexible to accommodate various arts which can be expressed digitally. As the museum typology has been outdated an institute of art being a hardcore learning center will be less likely to attract the youth, this venue will be the amalgamation of a museum and an Institution and will try to create a single place were existing arts gets the much-needed attention and arts will get proliferated. Also acting as a public bridge, it will have more public encounters than usual building which will strengthen its role in the society.
What is the vision of Bharat Bhavan for the End user? To Inspire artists within It will not focus solely on artists but also on the common public. Its main objective will be to inspire the common man to evoke the artistic qualities which lied inside every human in childhood but lost as he grew up and faced the material world. It will encourage people to think about the future of the arts in India and how to use technological advancements for the benefits of arts.
What are the inspirations behind the design idea of your new age Bharat Bhavan? It started with the idea of arts as the core of the project and its proliferation as the prime objective for the Bharat Bhavan we divided the conceptual process into 3 parts and responded to each aspect respectively by design… What is a Bharat Bhavan?
A Place where art persists It must be a place where art should remain art for itself, despite any logical explanations if provided or not. The most important aspect behind any work of art is the self-expression of the artist and his contentment in the making of it.
What does the site tell us?
From where it all began. River is the origin of the Civilization and arts are the voices of civilization which describes the various aspects of their life. Ahmedabad has a similar story that was formed on the bank of the Sabarmati river. Hence in a gesture of providing the dignity to its water, we have designed the Bharat Bhavan in the proposed Foot over-bridge in such a way which makes it appear floating over the water, like the lotus.
How would the cultural venue bridge the gap between the ideas of a place country and world? As it is made above the river, the design tries to focus on the origin of the place viz. Ahmedabad which was formed on the banks of the river Sabarmati. As the globalization is affecting India in many ways. There are new types of art forms which are not present in our country. So, this venue will establish a juncture point were all kinds of arts gets life and it can allow the people to inspire towards the future of arts in our country.
How do you see the culture of a country resonating within its architecture? In Indian architecture, except temples, there has never been any specification in usage of spaces. Each space or place had multiple roles and offered various kinds of activity throughout the day, on different weathers and on different occasions, and this the richness of our architecture in terms of spatial qualities. The adaptive capabilities of places make them unique and distinct. Overall it creates a dynamic space that has unique environments. We have tried to achieve such dynamism in our building which offers flexibility as well as fluidity in the usage of space. The places like display area can accommodate exhibition of non-digital art at one moment and digital arts at another. Such spaces offer multiple possibilities for the arts to speak for itself, which reflects the essence of Indian architecture.

Sun Hours
This analysis Shows the number of hours each surface will receive direct sunlight. Due to the orientation and arrangement of blocks, the common open space receives direct sunlight in summer which makes it difficult to use dyuring daytime.
While in winter the streets receive very less direct sunlight as the width of the streets is less than 4 mt and height of each block is 15 mt.

The Main Idea was to Reimagine the nature of Housin aimed to solve the Issues and to provide an Improved s each type of residents, moreover it should raise the stan tions of especially the lower class of the society.
The punctures in the will act as SOCIAL CORES which will ties for people to engage which will reduce the social se the residents.
To me, the biggest concern is the Social Segragation in the society happening due to various reasons like less intereacton, affordability. Another serious problem is the Climatic Comofort which is visible in may housing designs as climate in india is now fluctuating more than ever. The issues of Increasing temperatures and decreasing rains needs to be addresed very sensitively to secure the life of future generations.

Restructuring The Fabric
Academic Project: Urban Design “We are searching for some kind of harmony between two intangibles: A form which we have not yet designed in a context which we cannot properly describe “ - Christopher Alexander about the future of cities The Studio aims to study Urban Inserts as a means to positively transform its context while retaining its heritage, both tangible & intangible as well as ensuring continuity of life in foreseeable future. To fulfil this aim Ahmedabad world heritage city has been taken up as a primary context for this study. As the renowned urbanist Lewis Mumford articulates. “The chief function of the city is to convert power into form, Energy into culture, dead matter into the living symbols of art, (and) biological reproduction into social creativity.” As the statement suggest, a city is a complex entity that is affected for its sustenance and growth on various factors such as Socio-political environments, Economy, Equity, Productivity, Geo-climatic conditions and the existing way of functioning.

All Apartments are of G+3 floors and ranges from 1 BHK to 3 BHK with parking facility and are built around 20-25 years ago. This area is selected for intervention as due to apartment typology residential character of street is losing and fabric is getting distorted.
Site 2
contains 5 commercial complexes having approx. 217 electrical shops and godowns of 10-15 sqm. The area is of thriving commercial market and one of costliest land of Ahmedabad. But as commerce is consolidating and penetrating inside, it is absorbing residential zone which is resulting into gentrification of people living in the Pol. Hence it is major to concern to look upon.

Site 3
contains a building which is on stay as its character is totally inappropriate in the Jethabhai ni Pol. Therefore it becomes a very vital place for any intervention. It also contains other 7 houses around the stay building.
Site 4
has healthy traditional houses but as they abandoned, there is a chance that it can be started using for commercial purpose. Hence it is necessary to rejuvenate this houses to preserve the existing heritage character. It contains a recently built active Jain Dharamshala and 4 shops on the main road.

Water Essence of community living
Academic Project: Contextual Studio Site : Jodhpur Area : 2400 sq mts Program Water body Housing - Max. 8 house Vegetation The main intention was to understand how the water bodies of jodhpur acted as community binders and nourishing entity as well as fulfilling very scarce conditions of water in past. How water was one of the main reason of celebration of the community. As well as the rigorous water management system of the city due to which it survived under enormous scarcity of resources which are needed for development of a community. To catch that essence and redefine it through our understanding and to harvest the rain water and provide vegetation along with the dynamic experience of water, which adds to the living of any community and makes it better to live in.
Site Chand Pol (Jodhpur, Rajashtan) Chand pol is the most important street because all the Brahmin and accountants of king were used to live there. In Jodhpur sun is very harsh so the street is narrow and buildings are high, so the harsh sun has been blocked in the street. Narrow street and minimum two story houses are the main character of the street.
Houses
consist of an Internal water pool whcih remians open to the ground floor but remains shaded through pergolas. It provides humdity in the hot and dry climate of Jodhpur as well reduces the overall temperature of the house.
