Kerrisdale Business Association 2023 Citizen of the Year Award

This year's honoree is a true Kerrisdale native, born and raised within our community's embrace. From an early age, she exhibited a relentless passion for reading, eventually leading her to embark on her entrepreneurial journey as the proud owner and operator of Anvil Books in New Westminster.

In 1985, an opportunity presented itself when Louise Hager, the proprietor of Hager Books, made the decision to part ways with her beloved 11-year-old bookstore. Our dedicated book enthusiast wasted no time seizing the chance to return to her cherished roots.

For an impressive span of 38 years, Andrea Davies breathed life into Hager Books, becoming its heart and soul. Her exceptional customer service, unwavering enthusiasm for book recommendations, and the captivating allure of her window displays became synonymous with the essence of a beloved and inviting “corner shop.” This atmosphere garnered an extensive following, which remained steadfast even during the challenging times of the pandemic when the world turned to reading more than ever before.Last year, as Andrea embarked on her well-deserved retirement, she ensured that her legacy would continue to thrive. She entrusted her business to Bond Books under the condition that the dedicated staff would remain and uphold the cherished ordering routine that had endeared them to their loyal customers.

Andrea’s commitment to our community extended beyond the shelves of her bookstore. She contributed her time and expertise to the Kerrisdale Business Association Board for over 15 years. For her enduring dedication, unwavering support, and the everoptimistic “sunny ways” she brought to Kerrisdale, it is with great pleasure that we award Andrea Davies the Kerrisdale Business Association Citizen of the Year for 2023.
