Pallas Projects/Studios, who have been breaking new ground for Irish visual arts and culture since 1996, and supporting the development of Irish artists, present their third NYC-style fundraising auction: Irish Art Now – a showcase of Irish contemporary artists – with the generous help of Whyte’s and The Irish Georgian Society. With artworks by over 70 established and emerging artists including: Willie Doherty, Amanda Coogan, Liam Gillick, Corban Walker, Abigail O’Brien, Paul Hallahan, Barbara Knezevic, Salvatore of Lucan, Julia Dubsky and many more. This exciting collaboration between the auction house and the artist-run space will introduce Irish contemporary art – painting, print, photography and sculpture – to seasoned auction-goers, with many affordable works, and the chance to secure a choice piece by a major Irish artist, or to grab a bargain by a future prospect. It also presents a great opportunity for budding collectors to enjoy the auction experience for the first time, and start a collection of their own with a unique artwork. It will demonstrate the strength and breadth of Irish contemporary art: with renowned Irish painters, already familiar to the auction house, alongside internationally-established artists, who are already selling work through the leading Irish contemporary and international galleries and art-fairs (Frieze, Art Basel), exhibiting at home in museums (IMMA, The Hugh Lane), and far and wide in art biennales (Venice Biennale) and international institutions. The lots include specially created work by Willie Doherty, twice nominated for the Turner Prize, and British artist Liam Gillick, who exhibits regularly in Ireland with Kerlin Gallery and represented Germany in the 53rd Venice Biennale, both of whom have produced new one-off pieces especially for the occasion. In addition the auction will feature the work of many hugely talented emerging artists who have been championed by Pallas in recent years. This gala evening will be an entertaining spectacle, with pop-up food, drinks, and surprise guests. It is generously supported by Whyte’s, who are donating their fees and commission to support the not-for-profit sector, and the Irish Georgian Society, who have once again provided the use of the newly restored Octagonal Room of the City Assembly House for the event. One of Dublin’s hidden architectural gems, and commissioned by a group of artists, it was the first purpose-built commercial public art gallery in Britain and Ireland at the time of its completion in 1771. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to the artists who have donated these outstanding works of contemporary art, without their show of reciprocal support this event could not take place. Una Sealy RHA is an award winning painter, who has had ten solo exhibitions, including most recently, the Lavit Gallery Cork (2018), two at RHA Ashford Gallery, (2016, 2000) two at Molesworth Gallery Dublin, (2006, 2003) and a major mid-career review show at Draoicht, Blanchardstown, (2012-2013). Una has exhibited regularly at the RHA Annual Exhibition since 1991, and has been selected for curated group shows in San Francisco, New York and Britain. She was the winner of the Irish Arts Review/Ireland-US Council Award for Outstanding Portraiture in 2011, and was one of 12 Finalists at the Hennessy Portrait Prize exhibition at the National Gallery in 2014. Colin Crotty lives and works in Dublin, Ireland. He completed an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art, London in 2004. His work is concerned with ideas that relate to collective behavior and group identity within society. Often drawing on narratives from art history and popular storytelling his paintings create a fictional space that explores the social and political boundaries between people and land today. Recent solo exhibitions include Oonagh Young Gallery, Dublin (2018); Matthias Erngtes Galerie, Düsseldorf, Germany (2017). Born in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland in 1943, Graham attended the national College of Art and Design (1959–1963). Graham has long been considered ‘Ireland’s finest draughtsman’ and ‘a genuine artist’s artist’ but these much abused terms – though undoubtedly apt in relation to Graham – do not capture the truely powerful nature of his work. Graham’s paintings and drawings are a magnificent and unique balancing act of strength and fragility. Douthit has received grants from the Irish Arts Council and North Dakota Council of the arts. 15. Lee Welch (b.1975) Prophecy is what we all have to go by now. 2019, acrylic on polyester, signed on reverse, 102 by 68.5 cm provenance: artist’s studio €1200 – €1800 Lee Welch completed an MFA at the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam and gained his BFA from NCAD, Dublin. He was recently awarded a residency at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Welch’s work has been featured in numerous institutions including Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Michigan; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; CCA, Derry; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC), León, Spain, Objectif Exhibitions curated by Raimundas Malasauskas, Antwerp and Pallas Projects. Welch has received awards from the Arts Council of Ireland, Culture Ireland and Dublin City Council. She holds a BA (Hons)Degree in Fine Art Print at Crawford College of Art, an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art and Design, London and an MPhil in Fine Art Print and Digital Media from the University of Wolverhampton. Lynch has exhibited extensively in Ireland and abroad. He was raised by his mother, a single parent who lives with her mother, and his younger sister. He mainly makes work about his own life; often figurative domestic scenes. He always wants to represent himself as accurately as possible. Throughout his life, he has been asked where he is from, and has always replied ‘Lucan’. This is why he has recently decided to call himself Salvatore of Lucan instead of Salvatore Fullam.

Salvatore of Lucan studied Fine Art Painting at NCAD. His solo exhibition Salvatore of Lucan’s Show of Himself took place at Pallas Projects in 2018 as part of the Artist-Initiated Projects series. Since then he has exhibited in the Kevin Kavanagh gallery in a group show, has produced a print edition with Hang Tough Gallery, and he was shortlisted for the Zurich Portrait Prize, exhibiting his work Me and my Dad in McDonalds in the National Gallery of Ireland.

Shane Murphy (b.1970) Untitled_2019 expanded drawing 30 by 30 by 30 cm €250 – €350 Shane Murphy’s work is informed by phenomenological ideas of perception and explores the tacit integration between viewer and object. A keen appreciation of Minimalism supports his inquiry into light and architectural space. Working three-dimensionally through the process of expanded drawing, he develops a vocabulary of open form geometric sculptures. By subtly employing line as a medium, he demonstrates that a drawing is not confined to a purely two-dimensional act but is in fact a three-dimensional process demanding an active participation from the viewer in pedestrian space. This diffused interface creates ambiguity between the figure / ground relationship.

Gerry studied Photography at DIADT in Dublin before working as a photographic assistant to Perry Ogden & Bruce Weber. His work is inspired by ‘real people’ giving a voice to those on the margins, exploring social and cultural themes, in particular groups of people that share a common identity. I use a wide variety of materials and processes to examine themes such as landscape, reflection, point of view and making. Lesley-Ann O’Connell is an artist from County Meath. She graduated with a Bachelor and a Masters in Fine Art Painting from NCAD in 2008 and 2014. Between 2009 and 2018 she has exhibited in Dublin showing work with different galleries including NCAD, Monster Truck, Taylor Galleries, SO Fine Art Editions. She has exhibited with Pallas Projects/Studio three times, including her first solo show Surface in Motion (2015). Recently, she has shown with Kevin Kavanagh Gallery for group exhibition Island Life (2018). Country-wide, she has participated in group shows with Solstice Arts Centre, Visual, The Model and Custom House Studios.

Caoimhe Kilfeather studied at the National College of Art Design, Dublin and the Slade School of Fine Art, London. Her work is predominantly sculptural and often generated through intuitive processes alongside more targeted research. The affect and experience of different materials, light conditions and scales is integral to the development of the work. Recent solo exhibitions include Elemental at the Uillinn (2019), season and evening and weather and history at the Douglas Hyde Gallery (2017) and this attentive place at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (2014). Her work is included in many national collections such as IMMA, the OPW and the Arts Council. She lectures in Sculpture and Combined Media at the Limerick School of Art and Design.

70. Atsushi Kaga (b.1978) Taking shelter with hydrangea acrylic on MDF 16.5 by 22 cm provenance: artist’s studio €1200 – €1800

Atsushi Kaga is a Japanese visual artist, working in mixed media, painting, drawing, animation and sculpture. He is best known for his practice steeped in popular culture. Born in 1978 in Tokyo, the artist got his education at the National College of Art and Design – NCAD in Dublin, where he got his BA in Fine Art Painting in 2005. Atsushi also got a diploma at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, Cork, in 2001. His work will be included in the Maho Kubota Gallery’s booth at Busan art fair in Korea in May, and have a solo presentation at Dangai art fair in Taipei in January 2019 by Mother’s Tankstation Limited.

Born in County Limerick and graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design. Elected to Aosdana in 2006 and is a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy since 2003. Awards and artist residencies include Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, The Vermont Studio Centre VT; The Josef and Annie Albers Foundation CT; Swarthmore College PA; Model Arts Centre, Sligo; Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Co. Blaise Smith (b.1967) Woman’s Head (Anna) in the RHA School 2016 oil on board, 30 by 40 cm signed lfront and on reverse provenance: collection of the artist €600 – €800 Blaise Smith R.H.A. is one of Ireland’s leading Figurative painters. He was runner up in the National Gallery’s Zurich Portrait Prize 2018 with “My Parents”. The previous year he won the Irish Arts Review Portrait Prize with his much celebrated group portrait “8 Scientists” which was a portrait of Irish female Scientists for the Royal Irish Academy and Accenture’s “Women on Walls” Campaign. He has completed several Large scale commissions a 5 metre panorama of Waterford City in 2016 and and in 2012 - SCHOOLWORK - twenty paintings portraying life in a Carlow School. He has had numerous solo shows and his work is held in many Public and Private Collections.

Brendan Earley, born 1971. Lives and works in Wicklow. After graduating from NCAD with first class honours spent number of years travelling before receiving the Fulbright scholarship to attend Hunter College, New York City. Graduated with a Master in Fine Art in 1999 and returned to Dublin where he exhibits regularly. Exhibitions include Artist Space New York, Ars Electronica, Austria and Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin. He was awarded his PhD in 2010 from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin and recently had a major solo show in RHA, Dublin. His work is in a number of public and private collections. He is represented by mother’s tankstation.
