First diagnosed with brain cancer in October 2013, Kerri Parker, the former Playboy model, Ms. UK, and Hollywood stunt artist, has never shied away from publicly sharing her battle for health. Kerri has made it her mission to share her story and bring awareness to the disease. This September, almost 5 years removed from her initial diagnosis and brain surgery, the 34 year-old is once again thrust into the global spotlight after learning that her cancer has returned requiring further treatment.

Kerri credits her mother with first introducing her to the benefits of using cannabis to treat cancer after tirelessly researching the topic during Kerri’s 5 years in remission, in case the cancer ever returned. Together they learned of several instances of people ostensibly curing cancer using cannabis as the primary means of treatment. With this information, there was no doubt in Kerri’s mind that she would be better off using a healthier and more natural approach to her treatment. Kerri says that since her initial brain surgery, she has been training in martial arts and sticking to a healthy diet, leaving her feeling fitter and healthier than she has ever been. Undergoing chemotherapy would only set her back, physically, emotionally, and mentally. Now Kerri is in a fight for her life but will not be combating her disease with the normal chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Doctors recommended that Kerri undergo up to 12 rounds of chemotherapy to attempt to eradicate the cancer, but also told her that virtually no patients are able to withstand the full 12 treatments. She argues that the 12 cycles of chemotherapy doctors recommend she undergo would only serve to make her sicker and prevent her from engaging in the day to day of her thriving business. Instead, Kerri is putting her faith in cannabis, seeing it as a healthier alternative to treat and even eradicate her cancer.

There is limited research that shows evidence suggesting the idea that cannabis treatment can alleviate some of the side-effects of cancer treatments. Even more limited research suggests that there may be an anti-cancer benefit to cannabis as well. Doctors and researchers generally feel that there needs to be more research done on the subject to provide a more definitive link. That has not stopped Kerri from joining a growing community of people using cannabis to treat their cancer.

Since publicly announcing her decision to treat her brain cancer with cannabis, Kerri has received overwhelming support from her family and friends and from the community at large. Of course, there have been the usual cadre of detractors, including her own doctors who have since removed her as a patient from their practice, but that does not stop Kerri in her resolve to treat and conquer this cancer on her own terms.

Kerri has dedicated her life to helping others through her public profile, using her Facebook and Instagram pages to chronicle her cancer journey and health regime. She has also raised an extraordinary $30,000 for Brain Tumour Research, a UK charity that donates 100% of its funds aims to provide sustainable brain tumor research in hopes of finding a cure. She is the living embodiment of a healthy approach to cannabis use and cancer treatment.
