Letter from the Chief Executive Officer and Board Chair
Dear Symphony Friends,
What a rewarding journey it has been for the Palm Beach Symphony this past year as we celebrated our 50th anniversary.
The 2023-24 Masterworks Series was exceptional under the distinguished direction of our acclaimed Music Director Gerard Schwarz. World-class soloists, generously sponsored by our Impresario Society, joined us as pianists Yefim Bronfman, Santiago Rodriguez, Emanuel Ax and Ignat Solzhenitsyn, and violinists Akiko Suwanai and Pinchas Zukerman captivated audiences with unforgettable performances. Solidifying Palm Beach Symphony’s standing as a major American orchestra, the season featured four world premieres by composers Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Aaron Jay Kernis, Bright Sheng and Maestro Schwarz that add to the repertoire.
The Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series continued to introduce orchestral music to children and their families with the world premiere of The Carnival of More Animals made a significant impact on 3,624 students across Palm Beach County. More than 23 million viewers of PBS stations nationwide were treated to broadcasts of The Adventures of Peter and the Wolf, which we premiered locally last season. Further encouraging students’ interest in music, the Symphony has donated 680 instruments and more than 1,400 accessories and pieces of equipment since the program’s inception in 2016. It was a record-breaking year in every way. Our ticket sales surged, increasing by an impressive 22% over the previous year. The 50th Anniversary Gala, chaired by Cathie Black and Tom Harvey, surpassed attendance records from past Galas as 500 esteemed guests joined us for an unforgettable evening that raised more than one million dollars, which enables us to continue to fulfill our goals and actively promote our growth in programming and music education. Our Seventh Annual Holly Jolly Symphony Fête luncheon welcomed 400 guests and raised more than $300,000 while spreading joy and holiday cheer. At the soldout Swings for Strings Golf Invitational, chaired by Todd Dalhstrom, we announced our Todd Barron Instrument Donation Fund, where we once again had a sold-out event. We were honored to welcome two new members to our board, Nannette Cassidy and Amy Collins, whose expertise has been instrumental in guiding our future initiatives and expanding our community impact.
As detailed in this comprehensive 2023-24 Impact Report, Palm Beach Symphony has achieved notable expansion thanks to YOUR unwavering generosity. Together, we continue to fulfill the mission of engaging, educating and entertaining the community of Palm Beach County.

James R. Borynack Board Chair
OVERVIEW W
hen Palm Beach Symphony was founded in 1974 as the first professional orchestra in Palm Beach County, we only performed a few concerts each season with a part-time conductor and volunteer staff. Since then, the Symphony has seen extraordinary development, including new milestones in community outreach, music education, programming and fundraising.
In its 50th season, the Symphony continues its strong momentum of growth under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer David McClymont. Music Director Gerard Schwarz is leading spirited performances of Masterworks concerts with an orchestra that reaches 90 players, the mark of a major symphony orchestra. Recognized by The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County with a 2020 Muse Award for Outstanding Community Engagement, Palm Beach Symphony also continues to expand its education and community outreach programs. Children’s concerts, student coaching sessions, masterclasses, instrument donations, and free public concerts have reached more than 81,000 students in recent years. In addition to conducting the Masterworks concerts, Music Director Schwarz is also conducting the Children’s Concert Series, and the orchestra is recording it for television through a partnership with South Florida PBS.
Palm Beach Symphony attracted more members, subscribers, and single ticket buyers to its blockbuster season of world-class concerts with renowned artists. Performances at the Kravis Center were crowd pleasers, with thousands attending in-person at Dreyfoos Hall. Our partnership with CBS 12 of Sinclair Broadcast Group continued hosting the Sounds of the Season holiday concert broadcast, which reached nearly 100,000 people.
We offer multiple membership options such as our Impresario Society, Prelude Society, and Young Friends which play a leading role in the Symphony’s efforts to deliver spirited Masterworks concerts with worldclass guest artists.
Through these patrons’ combined support, the Masterworks Season provided inspiring classical music performances by virtuoso soloists with first-rate orchestral musicians conducted under Music Director Gerard Schwarz’s baton.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cultural arts organization, we are committed to enhancing the communities in which we perform. Palm Beach Symphony dedicates its efforts to expand its reach, bringing classical music to people of all ages, backgrounds, and life experiences.
ENGAGE
Our community outreach events serve as the cornerstone of our efforts to reach Palm Beach County’s broad and diverse community. At Palm Beach Symphony, we believe in the power of music to create meaningful connections. That’s why we offer a variety of community outreach programs that allow us to engage with members of the community beyond our concert venue. From miniconcerts throughout Palm Beach County to memorable experiences in hospitals and awarding scholarship prizes to artists, we utilize the power of music to positively impact the lives of those we serve. As the season advanced, the Symphony engaged in many opportunities in collaboration with valued community partners – Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Norton Museum of Art, The Boca Raton, Braman Motors, Lugano Diamonds, Hospital for Special Surgery and Brooke USA just to name a few - allowing us to offer these excellent programs that vastly enrich our community.

Palm Beach Symphony 50th Anniversary Gala
Palm Beach Symphony raised more than $1,000,000 during the 50th Anniversary Gala held on March 6, 2024. The event was led by 50th Anniversary Chairs and Gala Chairs Cathie Black and Tom Harvey, with Gala Honorary Chairs Patrick and Milly Park. The black-tie celebration commenced with cocktails in the Harris Pre-Function Hall of the Cohen Pavilion at the Kravis Center for Performing Arts, followed by a performance by the Symphony in Dreyfoos Hall under the baton of Music Director Gerard Schwarz. The evening continued with an elegant dinner and dancing in the Gimelstob Ballroom, accompanied by the lingering sound of applause from the performance.
More than 500 guests attended this unforgettable event, a new record for attendance. In addition, guests enjoyed a memorable performance by Kara Ravaschieri, the 2024 Lisa Bruna B-Major Award First-place Winner. Auction items for the gala included two five NetJets flight hours, a wall of wine, a trip to Casa de Campo and more.
Prelude Society
Our newest membership level of support, The Prelude Society, completed its second season of successful events this year in support of Palm Beach Symphony. CORP GOV with its founder John Jannarone at the helm featured on the top left photo with wife, Christine, is again the Principal Sponsor. Members enjoyed a specially reserved Prelude Society area with complimentary champagne at each of the Masterworks concerts – before the performance and during intermission.
Additional special events included a members-only evening at Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts with a private glass-blowing demonstration and our complimentary “Curated Classics” Prelude evening atop the Ben Hotel guided by our Assistant Conductor Kyle Elgarten featuring a vignette musical ensemble performance and refreshments. Prelude members also enjoyed complimentary reserved seating at our Dale A. McNulty Annual Family Concert, “The Carnival of More Animals” and reserved seating at our Music Maestros and Masters event at The Benjamin School.
Third Annual Impresario Society Dinner
Lugano Diamonds sponsored an exquisite one-of-a-kind dinner experience at a picturesque oceanfront home. Guests enjoyed a magical evening with fine music, gourmet cuisine and good company.
Seventh Annual Holly Jolly Symphony Fête
Through the combined efforts of the Palm Beach Symphony Ladies Guild, Chairs Sheryne and Richard Brekus, Honorary Chairs Karen and Kenneth* Rogers, Vice-Chairs Carol and Tom Bruce, Holly Jolly Host Committee and Music Men, the Seventh Annual Holly Jolly Symphony Fête was a sold-out event with 400 guests in attendance on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. All were thrilled to be helping dozens of students and school music programs with much-needed instruments. The event raised more than $300,000. A highlight of the afternoon was the Symphony’s donation of 76 gleaming instruments and accessories to the school music programs at Clewiston Middle School, Lake Worth Community High School and The Conservatory School at North Palm Beach. They are among the 130 instruments and 641 accessories donated to students and school programs in Palm Beach County since the school year began. Lake Worth High School Director of Bands, Dr. Tiffany
Cox, was honored as Palm Beach Symphony’s 2023 Instrumental Music Teacher of the Year and received a “Basket of Indulgences” and educational opportunities for her students, including coaching sessions by Palm Beach Symphony musicians and a classroom visit by Music Director Gerard Schwarz.
Swings for Strings
Palm Beach Symphony hosted its most successful golf tournament yet, boasting a remarkable achievement of raising over $100,000 and achieving a sold-out attendance. Significant support from Citizens Private Bank, Hospital for Special Surgery, iThink Financial, PNC Private Bank, Risk Strategies and Wellington National Golf Club, coupled with an extensive silent auction curated by the executive committee chaired by Todd Dahlstrom and the auction committee led by Sarmite Bulte, contributed to the resounding success of the event. Moreover, the announcement of the Todd Barron Instrument Donation Fund during the reception garnered $15,000 in initial contributions, marking a promising start for the fund.
Young Friends of Palm Beach Symphony
Young Friends of Palm Beach Symphony members re-ignited with in-person social events to support the Symphony’s education initiatives. Highlights from the season included a Season Opening party at the Colony Hotel, an instrument donation drive hosted at The Ben Autograph Collection, a collaboration with the FICPA for a pre-concert social at Planta West Palm Beach and a seaside social in collaboration with the Palm Beach Show, Provident Jewelry and Friends of the Uffizi Gallery.
Meet Me in the Mezzanine
This year’s Meet me in the Mezzanine saw the participation of numerous organizations at the Masterworks concerts, including the Leadership Business Council, Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County, Junior League of the Palm Beaches, Nonprofits First, Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce and NSAL Boca chapter. Attendees from these organizations had the exclusive opportunity to network on the Mezzanine both before the concerts and during intermission.
