GARDEN OF THE MONTH Racano and LaFlamme’s yard wins Garden Club award

James Farrell is a veteran of the Vietnam War and in the Air Force as an aircraft loadmaster. Aircraft loadmasters custom load aircraft before any flight. From calculating proper weight distribution to providing passenger comfort throughout the flight, these specialists ensure everything and everyone is safe and secure on flights all over the world. Farrell primarily worked aboard the C-5 Galaxy, which is among the largest military aircraft in the world and can fit six Greyhound buses in its cargo hold. The C-5 has been transporting troops and equipment since 1968. Farrell is also the survivor of a USAF C-130 plane crash in Japan on May 20, 1959. Among his many awards, Farrell is the recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Medal. He lived in South Florida for a long time but relocated to Palm Coast in 2022. He is an avid golfer and a new member of American Legion Post 115 in Flagler County.

Michael Racano and Charles LaFlamme’s garden on Arrowhead Drive has been recognized by The Garden Club at Palm Coast as the May 2023 Selection of the Month. Racano and LaFlamme’s moved from Rhode Island to Palm Coast in 2013, when they retired. Racano was a caterer and made floral arrangements, and LaFlamme was a director of nurses.

They make their own fertilizer by blending vegetables and fruit peels and use coffee grounds and eggshells on the lawn.
This curb appeal landscape was discovered at the end of March, and we were amazed by the abundance of flowers and the diversity of plants.
The front bed has many zinnias, bush daisy, firecracker, phlox, roses, amaryllis, lantana, dusty miller, pansies, coleus, potato vines and milkweed. Racano and LaFlamme recently
Over time, they have created and recently expanded their backyard with leftover pavers and other materials left by contractors.
They have two gorgeous red and pink bougainvillea in pots, drift roses, dianthus, and red calibrachoa parviflora.
They have a pagoda with several hanging pots. They even have an orange flowering nasturtium: They make pesto with the leaves and use the blossoms in salads.
Nothing goes to waste in their gardens!
