To set up a Windows PPP dial-up connection, a connection must be created for the Enfora GPRS modem. The following steps will outline the definition and configuration of the modem and Dial-Up Networking entries required to establish a PPP connection between the modem and a GPRS network.
1. Insert the CF card GSM0110 in the CE.NET device. 2. Power on the data collector. 3. Click on Start>Settings>Network and Dialup Connections. 4. Double Click the Make New Connection Icon. (Figure 2)
Figure 2
4. Enter a name for the connection (Figure 3). Generally name it something that describes your service provider (i.e. Cingular or T-Mobile).
Figure 3
5. Select Next. 6. Under Select a modem, make sure Enfora-GSM0110 is selected. (Figure 4).
Figure 4
5. Select Configure. 6. Select the Port Settings tab. (Figure 5) 1. Make sure the Baud rate is 115200. 2. Make sure Data bits are set to 8, Parity is None, Stop bits are 1, and Flow control = Hardware. 3. All the other defaults should be correct.
Figure 5
4. Select the Call Options tab. 5. Uncheck the box labeled “Cancel the call if not connected within.” (Figure 6)
Note: In the following step, the letters “APN” must be substituted with the name of the APN supplied by the GPRS carrier. Because of the limitation of CE.NET the APN cannot exceed 22 characters. Everything after the = sign is case sensitive. If your carrier provides you with an APN that is longer than 22 characters, that APN must be stored directly to the GSM0110 CF Card. You will need to use a terminal program (such as HyperTerminal) to configure and save the APN information to the card. ii. In the Special Modem commands box: Enter the following: +cgdcont=1,”IP”,”APN” Example: T-Mobile USA’s APN is: internet2.voicestream.com. You would word the text as such: +cgdcont=1, “IP”, “internet2.voicestream.com” Example: Cingular USA’s APN is: Internet.com. You would word the text as such: +cgdcont=1, “IP”, “internet.com”
As you can see from the examples the APN for T-Mobile’s exceeds 22 characters. We would need to enter the APN in Hyperterminal. See Appedix A for details regarding this procedure.
f. Select OK.

5. Double tap the newly created icon to activate the Dial-Up Connection dialog. 1. If you have a Non-Transparent network, you will need to enter the User name and password. For a transparent network, there is no username and password (Figure 12).
Note: Please refer to your GSM carrier’s properties (do they require a password, or don’t they). More than likely the provider will not require a password.

5. Select the <Dial Properties> button. 6. Press the <Edit> button. 7. In the box labeled, “For local calls dial”… Enter *99#. This is a very important step!!!. 8. Press the <Enter> button on your data collector to save the settings. 9. Press <OK> to the Dialig Properties dialog. 10.Press the <Connect> button to logon to the network. It should be dialing the number: *99#. It should logon and authenticate on the network. You should hear an audible tone indicating you are connected (it sounds like the ActiveSync connection sound). 11.Now, you are connected to the internet and you should be able to go directly into the SurvCE program and choose the GPS Rover option. 12.Make sure you have a cable connected from your data collector’s COM1 to COM2 on the GPS receiver. 13.Once you have browsed for the receiver’s Bluetooth, then you should choose the <RTK> link under the GPS Rover option. 14.Choose the option for “Data Collector Internet” 15.Press the <Config> button next to it.
16.Choose COM1 and press <OK> 17.For Network, pull down either NTRIP or DirectTCP. Key in your appropriate network information. Press <OK> 18.Make sure you have the baud rate set at 9600 and RTK port COM2. 19.Press <OK> to begin the connection process. 20.It should complete, and you should see a RED blinking LED on the COM2 port of the GPS receiver. 21.You should now be able to go into <Store Points> and receive a fixed position within seconds.
