Site and perception

The existing structure possesses the remnants of colonial architecture that are reflected on the openings of facade, the jack arches and the cast iron columns . Perception of the site Approach:

: Perceiving site as jungle of columns bounded by the periphery. Breaking the“jungle-nessyet retaining the columns as character of space.

Site and spaces As a response to the site, the spatial inserts done within the structure are such that they are at an ‘offset’ from the existing floor and walls . The idea of new complementing as well as contrasting the old is taken up for Adaptive reuse of the site. Signages for each space are designed from corten steel sheets welded together with metal rods for arrows.

VADILAL FACTORY Experience Center

An experience center that is an attachament to the existing Ice cream factory (VADILAL ICE CREAM FACTORY), which opens up its doors for public to look into

Situated in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Vadilal Industries Ltd developed Vadilal Ice Cream Factory . The new proposal is an experience center which would be an attachment to the ice cream factory. The processing of ice cream making and packaging gets transparently laid to the visitors. The center shares the history, chemistry and innovations that are involved in ice cream since its discovery .

The central idea is to have a space which acts as an interface between the industrial belt and a place of intrigue for ice cream lovers.

Site and spaces : With a frame structure, spatial interventions involved demolishing of walls and addition of new ones in order to create new spaces to cater to the demand of the program. The space for the proposed program shares a wall with the industrial production unit of ice creams and kulfis . This provides a direct connection to the visitors for observing the process of making .
