BHUTAN Buddha Dordenma
DAY 1
- L D Singapore - Paro - Thimphu Namgay Heritage Hotel On arrival, you will be met at the airport and transferred from Paro airport to Thimphu (2,320 metre) - the capital of Bhutan. The snaking road follows the Po Chu as it winds downstream to its confluence with the Mo Chu, then up the valley to Thimphu. After lunch, we go on a sightseeing tour of Thimphu. National Memorial Chorten Chorten literally means ‘Seat of Faith’ and Buddhists often call such monuments, the ‘Mind of Buddha’. This chorten is an extraordinary example of Buddhist architecture and artwork with its gorgeous paintings and intricate sculptures, and was consecrated on July 28, 1974, in memory of the Third King. Tashichhodzong (Thimphu Dzong) The “Fortress of the Glorious Religion” has been the seat of the government since 1952 and presently houses the throne room and offices of the king, the secretariat and the ministries of home affairs and finance. Other government departments are housed in buildings nearby. Time permitting, we visit the Takin Enclosure, to see Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin, a strange looking beast some say looks like a bee-stung moose.
DAY 2
B L D Thimphu Sightseeing Namgay Heritage Hotel Once a rustic village sitting in a broad, fertile river valley, Thimphu is today the nation’s bustling capital. Enjoy a full day of sightseeing, starting with a visit to the Buddha Point, located at Kuenselphodrang Nature Park. The 51.5m bronze statue of Buddha Dordenma makes it one of the largest statue of Buddha in the world.

Haa Valley
The Buddha Dordenma symbolizes indestructibility, and it is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world. The views of Thimphu valley from the Buddha Point are spectacular and beautiful. Other sites to visit include the Institute of Zorig Chusum where students are taught the 13 types of Bhutanese art, the traditional Paper Factory displaying the Bhutanese paper making process, and a fascinating replica of a medieval farmhouse at the Folk Heritage Museum. We will visit the Tashichhodzong, ‘the Fortress of the Glorious Religion’. Initially erected in 1641 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it was rebuilt in the 1960s during the reign of Bhutan’s third king in the traditional style, without plans or nails. Tashichhodzong houses some of the ministries, His Majesty’s secretariat, and the central monk body. If your visit to Thimphu coincides with the weekend, you can walk through the Thimphu Market to see the varieties of Bhutanese food including baskets of fiery chillies, cheese and a variety of greens.
DAY 3
B L D Thimphu - Punakha Zhingkham Resort Today we travel to Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan until 1955, and will stop off at Dochula Pass (3,050 metre) along the way. The pass is marked by 108 chortens or stupas and gardens of colorful prayer flags. On the clear day one enjoys the magnificent view of eastern Himalaya. The descent from Dochula to Punakha is another two hours drive on switch back roads. Arriving in the scenic valley, we will tour Punakha Dzong considered one of the most beautiful sites in Bhutan. Sitting at the fork of two rivers, it is a stunning example of Bhutanese architecture.

Go back in time and visit the 7th century Kyichhu Temple. As the name suggests, the temple is a reservoir of peace, where you will feel at peace here. Next to the temple is the house that is turned into a museum dedicated to the late Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.
DAY 5
B L D Paro - Haa Valley Excursion Metta Resort & Spa Day excursion to Haa Valley via Chelela Pass. The picturesque Haa valley is an isolated valley south of Paro and was only opened to tourists in 2002. Around the Haa valley are many scattered monasteries and reputedly the oldest nunnery. The staple crops in this large fertile valley are millet, wheat, barley and potatoes. Haa is the least visited valley in Bhutan owing to the lack of tourist infrastructure. This has helped in keeping Haa the way it has always been, with Bhutanese families living their traditional and simple life. Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple) It is a very peaceful and tranquil place, suitable for meditation. The monastery was established in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo in his mission to build 108 monasteries in one day. It is situated towards the north of Lhakhang Karpo.

The trail is broad, and the uphill walk of approximately 2 hours takes you almost a kilometre above the Paro valley floor. For those who cannot hike we can arrange a pony for transfer up to the viewing point (your own account). The view of Taktsang Monastery built on a sheer cliff face 900 metres above the valley floor is a spectacular sight. It was first built in 1692 at a cave where Guru Rimpoche meditated in the 7th century A.D. Nearby there is a teahouse where you can stop for refreshments.
