Program Teaches Massage Therapy is Important Part of Overall Healthcare Increasingly, people are seeing the benefits of massage therapy as a way to improve health and well being, rehabilitate injuries, and manage complex health conditions. Centennial College is meeting the needs for trained massage therapists with its Massage Therapy program. This undertaking holds the 2011 President’s Gold Award - Student Satisfaction - Quality of Learning Experience (awarded if student satisfaction is 90 per cent or greater five years in a row) as well as the 2010 President’s Gold Award - Student Satisfaction - Quality of Learning Experience Graduate Satisfaction Award. Taking three years to complete, the offering focuses on giving students the knowledge and skills they need to deal with patients seeking relief from a variety of conditions affecting their health and well-being; operate a successful business and to advance in the profession of massage therapy; prepare for their entrance entry-to-practice exams, set by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. This range is successfully delivered through Massage Therapy courses that combine massage therapy education and business skills while offering a strong clinical component. Enhancing practical elements is the program’s location, Morningside Campus. It boasts a simulated massage therapy clinic. Here, under the supervision of faculty members, students can apply the skills they have learned in their classes. A community outreach initiative introduces clients to massage therapy and at the same time provides students with client experiences ranging from the person in need of palliative care to the varsity athlete. The performance expectations are individualized according to the setting, semester of study and the student. To round out Centennial College’s Massage Therapy training, students complete placements in the field to apply what they have learned and expand their professional network. At Centennial College students can attend a three-year Massage Therapy program that covers a range of modules and offers hands-on practice at on-campus massage clinics.
