eBeam Quick Information

eBeam Cost: For the eBeam: As of 7/29/10-$700.36 (cost and tax-no shipping) from Camcor. You will need to order the Bluetooth version. Contact Debbie Yow at Technology Services for an up-to-date quote. You will also need to purchase a projector, if needed. Contact Steve Ennis at Camcor.

Connecting eBeam Using the Bluetooth:      



 

Set up your computer, including Bluetooth device; go to the Desktop.

Set up and turn on projector.

Place the eBeam receiver on any corner of a whiteboard, or smooth, white surface at the edge of the projected screen.

Connect one end of the cable to the receiver and the other end into the outlet plug.

Start the eBeam by going to Start>Programs>eBeam>eBeam Interact.

Using the Desktop Tools Palette, go to Calibrate or right click on palette or taskbar icon. You will need to touch each + sign with the pen, starting at the top left, moving down the row, going to the top of the second row, moving down, and then the top of the third row and move down.

The calibration screen will disappear if calibration was successful.

Adjustments to the Desktop Tools Palette may be made using the Options button. You can change the size and transparency of your palettes from here. There are several other items you can change from this dialog box as well.

Changes to the colors and line widths may be made using the Pen button from the palette.

Using eBeam Interact turns your whiteboard into a virtual touch screen. You may operate your computer directly from the whiteboard.

Connecting without the Bluetooth:   

Place the eBeam receiver on the board at the edge of the projected area.

Connect one end of the cable to the receiver and the other end into your computer or laptop.

(Removing the plug from the end of the cable will allow you to do this.)

Start the eBeam and follow the steps above to calibrate the eBeam.

General Information: 

 

eBeam Projection options with Interact software comes with a receiver, stylus (pen), three options for attaching the receiver to a whiteboard (suction, magnetic, and tape) and the software CD. Please be sure any magnet devices are removed from the whiteboard before setup.

The stylus acts as a wireless mouse; if problems arise, recalibrate. The stylus also uses batteries so please replace as needed.

 







  

Using the tip of the stylus is the same as a left click of the mouse; you may select text by placing the tip over the text and sliding right or left as you would with the mouse.

There are two buttons on the stylus; the large, top button (A) makes the stylus works as a right click; this feature is enabled/disabled by pressing button A. The small, bottom button (B) allows the user to work with the interactive tools; pressing button B hides/shows interactive tools.

The eBeam site is very helpful; the tutorials are easy to follow; these tutorials are found in the Support section; the address for this site is www.e-beam.com.

Any of the software programs you have on your computer may be used with eBeam; MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel, KidPix, Inspiration, etc. and then annotated and/or edited while using eBeam.

Interactive sites such as www.starfall.com and www.coolmath-games.com or textbook sites may be used with eBeam to enhance learning opportunities for students. eBeam is compatible with Interwrite Pad and Mobi; the galleries and graphics that come with IP and Mobi may be used with eBeam. You cannot use both products at the same time, however.

The Scrapbook Tool in eBeam gives you a virtual whiteboard with an unlimited supply of pages; this feature also comes with a gallery of images, folders and page backgrounds.

Scrapbook Tool:  Text: copy and paste by clicking A button to copy, to add text box and to paste.  Object: can move, rotate, change shape; double tap and can alter even more.  Select: tap on object or “throw” it over to page.

Import images: go to Page>Add Images>Choose file.

Gallery: “butterfly”; organized by images and folders; choose image and double click or drag to board; organized by categories and folders.

Backgrounds: go to Page>Backgrounds; can change but cannot manipulate.

Spotlight: View>Spotlight or Spotlight button; darkens whole screen except for small circle or square; can be dragged or dropped by pulling in gray area; options in corner to change from circle to square, size and transparency; click on X to close.

Cover Sheet: View>Use Cover Sheet or Cover Sheet button; hides content and gradually opens to reveal page; tap and drag to reveal; Option button to rotate and change transparency.

Saving files: Always use Save As option when saving files; this allows you to control location and file type. eBeam is compatible with the Interwrite pad and Mobi. You can use the galleries and graphics that come with the IP and Mobi in eBeam and vice versa. You cannot use both of the products at the same time though.
