The benefits of Pamoja Taught Pamoja Taught courses are designed to support schools in

Broadening their subject offering

Easing challenges presented by teacher shortages

Building flexibility in timetables

Offering students practical experience in digital technologies

Taking an online course meant that I didn’t always have a teacher around making sure that I was completing all of the work on time, so I had to be very self-disciplined in order to actually learn the material and effectively study for the final exams. It was relatively difficult to learn this skill at the time, but once I started university, I think that I had a much easier time adapting to an independent learning environment than some of my peers.” Emily, Pamoja student

We take full responsibility for teaching The role of a Pamoja teacher is first and foremost to facilitate learning - not direct it.  We are committed to doing more than supporting students in achieving good examination results. We are dedicated to developing students’ capacity as independent and collaborative learners. In order to achieve this goal, Pamoja teachers give students room to learn - and let go of some traditional face-to-face, teacher-directed, student management strategies.     Pamoja’s platform provides insights into student progress, enabling both the Pamoja team and the student’s school to step in when appropriate. Our teachers are trained in skilful student management which reinforces the student’s responsibility for learning without neglecting them, and develops their independence from teacher directed learning. Teachers support learning in the spirit of recognised education thought leaders such as Michael Fullan (Leading in a Culture of Change) and John Hattie (Visible Learning). Our teachers are supported by:

Subject specialist Course Advisors;

Our Oxford-based Academic Team who provide administrative oversight; and

A Community and Professional Development team.

The courses are run professionally and Pamoja has been an amazing partner in meeting the learning needs of our students. Communication is open and transparent and the quality of course delivery is extremely high. Our students have enjoyed great success in their exams in their Pamoja online courses.” Kristina Sprljan, IB Coordinator at American International School of Zagreb 9

I recently completed my university applications and the experience of learning online gave me a huge advantage; both in terms of skill set and the format itself. It was the one thing that I wrote about for every application because it made me stand out. It definitely helped me to get in to most of the universities I applied for and it’s also been a fantastic experience all round.” Raghav, Pamoja student

17

Pamoja students gain experience in a range of online learning tools that they will be using as part of their university learning, and become independent learners. Once at university, Pamoja students are less likely than other students to: Rely on print resources and more likely to research online Need to turn to their university instructors for help

4.78

Pamoja Taught students have recorded an average grade of 4.78 compared to an IB global average grade of 4.66 over the past four years of IB Diploma examinations.

My school at the time did not offer Mathematics HL, there were very few students interested in taking it and very few teachers able to teach at that level in English. So being able to study online with Pamoja enabled me to get an education that I wouldn’t have had access to, and because of Pamoja I was able to study Engineering at Cambridge.” María, Pamoja student now working as a Mechanical Engineer 18
