01 LIGHTING THAT EXPRESS THAI IDENTITY タイの独自性が表現する照明設計
Master’s THESIS lighting that express Thai identity
By sunlight people can see things in the daytime. While in the night, artificial “lighting” enables people to do various activities. The purpose of lighting design is wide, not just providing night-time visibility and safety. Above all, for enhancing tourism lighting can emphasize the identity of a country or the character of a place. From this perspective, this project focuses on one district in Bangkok (Pak Klong Talad) for designing unique lighting to underline Thai identity. Pak Klong Talad is an old district in Bangkok having a long history and various spatial elements. Depending on the character of each place, different lighting concepts are taken; for example, the concept of Thai traditional lighting atmosphere for the old canal, and Thai modern lighting design concept for the riverfront and plaza. All these are presented with computer graphics and scale models.

EXISTING There are 2 warehouses of flower market which operate for 24 hours and sells lots of flowers. The existing lighting comes from the lighting of the shop and the fluorescents that hanging from the roof.

flower market 花市場 LIGHTING DESIGN Because the flower market is open 24-hour. So not only design the lighting during the night but also thinking about the natural light and shade at noon. Due to the traditional Thai market in the past, most of the markets used Nipa palm for being the roof. So, using the skylight with a pattern of Nipa palm being some part of the roof. When the natural come through the skylight, there is the shadow of Nipa palm on the market’s floor. On the other hand, hanging the old traditional Thai equipment with lighting inside is not only being a decoration but also being light during the night. It can create an atmosphere of Thai.

historical townhouse 歴史的な町家
EXISTING There are many historical townhouses along the old canal. The condition of the lighting design of these buildings is not to disturb the people who live in the townhouses. LIGHTING DESIGN By accent lighting highlight the detail of these townhouses during the night, it can become a tourist attraction at night. Due to not disturbing people who live in these townhouses, using wall lights install between the windows. Also, installing lamp posts along the pedestrian in front of the building.

LANNA LANTERN Lanna Lantern is the Northern lantern of Thailand that usually use during festivals. The shape and the pattern of this lantern are different depending on the place. The shape and color of this lantern are inspired by PhuangMalai, one of the most popular flowers in Pakklong market.
old canal 古い運河 LIGHTING DESIGN CONCEPT Thai traditional atmosphere SPACE DESIGN First, creating the small piers for being recreation space and adding low maintenance tall trees for people can use the space during the noon. LIGHTING DESIGN Using LED wire light and Lanna lantern to create Loi Kratong festival’s atmosphere. The LED wire light will reflect with the surface of the canal to represent “Kratong” that floating in the river at Loi Kratong festival.

riverfront リバーフロント LIGHTING DESIGN CONCEPT Thai modern lighting LIGHTING DESIGN Designing LED spotlight on the wooden pier from the boat pier to the flower market for guiding the tourist. The LED stripped light is not only for light up space, but also highlights the shape of the amphitheater. Besides using floodlight to emphasize the trees along the pier.

FLOATING LIGHT For becomimg tourist spot at night, there are many floating lights that float on the surface of Chao Phraya River near the pier. All of floating lights have Thai flower pattern to represent place identity and Thai identity.

SPACE DESIGN First, I will remove the low concrete wall and design an amphitheater and pier along the river for being recreation space. People can have interaction with the river by using the terrace. Even during the festival such as “Loi Kratong” or “Songkran”, it can hold on for many activities on the pier. Besides, adding planters with low-maintenance trees for people can using the space under the tree shade at noon.

02 MAHACHAI SEAFOOD MARKET HISTORCAL TOURIST ATTRACTION Mahachai is located in Samutsakorn province that near from bangkok. The landmark of the Mahachai city is seafood market. At present, Mahachai city is very bustle and lots of people come to visit this place. There are lots of no-longer used spaces and have no arrangement.

03 CHALERMNIT 53 This project is the feature wall of sale gallery in front of the constructing building. This feature is not only being as landmark during the day time, but also in the night-time by lighting design. The pattern of design element of wall is using aluminium square tubes by screening the construction of residential.

IBIS STYLE CITY HOTEL RATCHADAPISEK
Ibis style, the city hotel in Accor Hotel brands, is the fourth Ibis style in business district of Bangkok. In the past, this building used to be an entertainment building. By using the old main structure and redesigning to become the hotel, it’s becoming the most difficult restriction to design.
Because of the old structure and creating parking lot for cars and buses, there are only a few space to become a green area. Most of space is hardscape for transportation of people and cars. So creating the pattern of pavement to being the design and dividing the footpath and road.
In the sixth floor, there is a court garden that connecting from lift hall. The court is containing the planters and seating that using as recreation area. Behind of the court, planting tall shrub to screen from the other building

168 RESIDENTIAL CONDOMINIUM This project has collaborated between AAd, Archive Architect and Archive landscape.
The mid-rise condominium is located in residential district in Bangkok. From the second to seventh floor are for selling as condominium. The eighth floor is for client. The first floor of this building is use for main entrance, parking lots and reception.
The roof top of this building is being as roof garden that adding green space as much as possible to reduce the hardscape area. The shape of the planter is curve shape that different from shape and element of the building.
The shape of the planters at roof top are curve shape that different from other shape and elements of the building. By contrasting, roof top garden is becoming the highlight spot. And by using curve shape, feeling relax and comfortable.

06 FARMESH OFFICE COMPLEX
location : Petchburi, Thailand type : Commercial program : Office Complex area : 5,027 sq.m.
This architectural analogy is thus introduced concerning corporate function and office working hierarchy based on ‘branching’office/department organizations. This allows form and function to correlate and merge into form of architecture and interior spaces that express not only functioning term of organization, but also its corporate identification of ‘FARMESH’.
Multifunction space, connecting between office building and retenpond, for staff and official use this space as recreation area in break time or after woking. Moreover this space can use as being exhibition area or event for supporting client and other people.

‘Life Form’ Farmesh headquarter is architectural ar ticulation based on physical analogy of ‘Life Form’ that co-exists in various living organisms, plants and natural land formation, i.e. river delta, sand dunes, etc.
