Julia Donaldson Sharon King-Chai An alphabet book with a difference, written by one of this country’s best loved picture book creators. Intricately die-cut pages and fold-out flaps draw the reader into a gorgeous depiction of the natural world. The text acts as a guessing game as well as an ABC, encouraging children to think creatively about animals and how they differ from each other.

David’s drawings and acccessible text bring life and colour to a period of history that will be roundly celebrated throughout 2018, marking the centenary of the first women getting the vote in the UK and 90 years since the achievement of universal suffrage in this country.

David Roberts David describes himself as an enthusiast rather than an expert, and it’s his enthusiasm that really shines through in this exquisitely illustrated, inspiring 128 page history of women’s fight for political equality, written with advice from June Purvis, Emeritus Professor of Women’s and Gender History at the University of Portsmouth. Chris Harris Lane Smith

Julie Fogliano Lane Smith

Winning the UK’s most prestigious illustration award, the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal, made 2017 a golden year for Lane Smith. And now he’s illustrated something completely different: a very funny and totally madcap poetry book from TV comedy writer, Chris Harris — coming in paperback in 2018.

New from Lane is a lyrical and thought-provoking book written by New York Times-bestselling poet, Julie Fogliano. Lane’s artwork here is masterful — cleverly layered, the book shifts from light to shade, cool spaces to dense blossom. Once again Lane has created a world that’s impossible not to get lost in.

Morag Hood Buscemi. Martin. Coogan. Jobs. There are hundreds upon thousands of Steves, but who is the One True Steve? Creator of Colin and Lee, Carrot and Pea and I Am Bat, Morag Hood explores jealousy, identity and how best to deal with your irritating doppelgänger in her brilliantly funny new book, The Steves.

April 2018

Named a One to Watch by The Bookseller, Morag is fast making a name for herself as a rising star with a tone and look unlike anything else out there. Morag’s books mix graphic artwork in radical colours with a dry wit and real warmth.

Kathleen Krull Júlia Sardà Two Hoots presents a non-fiction book all about Carroll’s life, his wordplay and the creation of the most famous little girl in children’s literature.

Polly Dunbar

June 2018

We at Two Hoots have long been devoted fans of Polly Dunbar’s work, and so we’re delighted to be publishing her new book, Something Fishy. It’s the warm, funny story of a grumpy, jealous cat who wants a piece of fish from his owners, but they’re a little busy planning for a new arrival. Perfect for cat lovers and families with a new baby on the way.

Júlia Sardà is an up-and-coming illustrator of enormous talent, and we’re truly excited to welcome her to the list. Her interpretation of Carroll’s world is dreamlike and enchanting, and couldn’t be more faithful to the spirit of his work.

Maisie Paradise Shearring Anna and Otis is Maisie Shearring’s first self-authored picture book. She has an unparalleled knack for capturing the fears and feelings of childhood: her artwork is loose and almost childlike, yet packed with fine detail and irresistible characters. We love the friendship between a girl and a snake called Otis. It’s funny, and full of kindness.

Bethan Woollvin Instantly recognisable and truly unique, Bethan’s artwork is stunning. Her mischievous characters and defiant female leads breathe new life into traditional fairy tales, and Hansel and Gretel is deliciously full of mischief, magic and mayhem. This time the twins are naughty and the witch is good . . . or is she?

Aurélie Guillerey is one of the most exciting illustrators working today: there is a distinctly retro feel to her work which we love, yet it always feels fresh.
