Betty Dietz & Bruce Schneck Memorial Sweet Arrow Lake County Park Fishing Event

Sweet Arrow Lake County Park’s yearlong fishing event kicks off on April 9th. Coordinated by the Friends of Schuylkill Parks and Recreation (501c3) and Sportsmen’s Advisory Board with assistance from the Swatara Co-op Trout Nursery and sponsor Pioneer Pole Buildings, registration is now open.

A total of $13,000 worth of Trout, including many Lunkers (18-to-24- inch trout) will be stocked throughout April. In addition, the Swatara Coop Trout Nursery and the Fish Commission stock trout as well. Top prizes on tagged trout will be $1000, $750, $500, $500, $250 and $250. A minimum of twenty trout and crappies will have tags worth $100 cash each.

$100 tagged fish sponsors in memory, honor of someone or as a business will add to the tagged trout. The groups have set a goal of 50 and 14 have been committed so far.

Registration information can be found at www.sweetarrowlakepark. com and on ‘sweet arrow lake yearlong fishing’ Facebook page. Werner’s Lumber Ace Hardware in Pine Grove and Stony Gun and Archery near Williamstown have applications and are the locations to turn in tagged fish.

Registration info may be mailed as well.

100% of registration fees and any cash donations will go towards event. This is not a fundraiser. Registration income will determine number of fish stocked and how many $100 money fish get stocked in the future.

for more action’, coordinator Craig Morgan commented. Five lunkers will have tags attached and worth $100 to anyone who catches them but will be worth $100 plus 1/5th of a pool for those entered. In addition, a crappie pool will be conducted each Saturday in April. Both pools cost $5 each to enter. All proceed returned in prizes. Details are printed on registration form. A small games of chance license was secured.

Sweet Arrow Lake is an excellent venue to take kids fishing. Playgrounds, picnic tables, pavilions, trails, waterfall, 18-hole disc golf and great flatwater recreation await the outdoor enthusiast. There are two canoe and kayak launches and the Fish and Boat Commission Boat launch are available for boats. Electric motors only and don’t forget to have your boats registered or have a launch permit. A&A Bait Shop sits across the street from the boat launch if you forgot to get the permit for your canoe or kayak. Life jackets are required to be worn until May 1. Mentored Trout Youth Day also promise to be filled with action; weather permitting. Also, again this year thanks to volunteers, food will be available at the Fish and Boat Launch every Saturday and Sunday in April except Easter as well as Mentored Trout Day March 26.
