POTTERY SAMPLER - BEGINNER
HAWAIIAN HULA DANCE
Thinking about joining a pottery class but not sure about the 8 class commitment? This class will allow you to get a little muddy and see if you like to throw on the pottery wheel or prefer making pieces by hand. We will explore, create, and on the final day glaze your creations! Try this sample class and see what’s right for you. All supplies provided.
The Hula dance is one of Hawaii’s oldest cultural traditions and is often accompanied by either Hawaiian music (mele) or a traditional Hawaiian chant. Two types of Hula will be taught, the Hula Auana (modern style) and the Hula Kahiko (traditional style). The hula portrays the lyrics of the song in a visual dance form, using the hands that tell the story, while the hips sway to keep the rhythm of the dance. This is an excellent form of exercise – easy and light on the body yet great for the core, muscles and joints.
