LIVING THE GROUND FLOOR a strategy of reuse in the Milanese context master thesis work period May 2016 - April 2017 with Giulia Rossari supervision Federico Zanfi, Laura Daglio

The starting point of the research is the observation of a peculiar type of space, which is typical inside modern residential constructions from the post-war period in the Milanese context: the empty ground floor on pilotis. The function of this space appears today often uncertain or simply reduced to simple spaces of service for the housing block, in the form of entrance’s cores to the building, while its form -the presence of the structural grid of columns, the amount of available free spacesuggests a feasible reconsideration of its shape, with the possibility of

12

hosting new possible uses. Therefore, the research suggests a general design strategy adaptable to the various observed contexts. The strategy is applied on a particular context, through a project located inside the neighborhood Restocco/Lodovico il Moro of Milano. The main themes of the project are the resolution of the transition between private and public realm and the check on the actual flexibility of use of the design through standard elements to create spaces with different forms, functions and uses.

CAMPOSIENA

proposal for the renovation of a milanese square competition period with

AUGMENTED NATURE competition period with

Tallinn Architecture Biennale - Vision Competition January 2019 L.M.Dessagne, S.Marungiao, C.Pichler

AUGMENTED NATURE it’s a neighborhood where people live between private and shared spaces: the apartment is extended on common terraces, balconies and corridors where some services for everyday life are placed, along with spaces for rest, community-making and coworking. The natural dimension of the project is explicated by the design of the greenhouses: lightweight and flexible, they serve as small urban farming hubs, common spaces for the neighborhood, working and commerce areas. They host everyday life without creating a strong separation between inside and outside and creating a filter between the wild nature of the outside and the private spaces of the interiors.

Wood is used as construction material: it’s a renewable resource that permits to create a basic structural grid on which the neighborhood can expand and model its own habitat. Community making and processes of taking care of the public spaces are encouraged end enhanced by the digital world: the inhabitants will have the possibility of monitoring the shared data and model their behavior inside the community. The idea of AUGMENTED NATURE is modeled and designed in the Tallin context: the old site of the railway yard is transformed from an enclosed and hidden space to an open and vibrant neighborhood connecting the Stroomi park side to the Lennusadam waterfront.

WORLI MEGABLOCK competition period with

Reside - Mumbai mixed housing April 2018 T.Raimondi, G.Rossari

Worli Koliwada is a complex fragment in the megacity of Mumbai. Its diversity lies in the relationship between future different inhabitants, varied functions and in its tie with the surrounding landscape. So as to address such a heterogeneous context, the proposal consists in the implementable model of a megablock: an independent and flexible urban element that adapts both to mega-functions and to the scale of the traditional enclave. Once considered and strengthened the emergent urban keypoints, housing is addressed through a modular solution based on the traditional Koli home. This concept adapts to different spatial configurations, complying to traditional uses as well as to modern and affluent ones. No compulsory co-living is endorsed, nor social

segregation is promoted. On the contrary, a system of various spatial configurations defines living environments that depend on the needs of its inhabitants: visual relationships and a common building system encourage the development of a new and respectful community. The upper houses establish a visual dialogue with the surrounding, while the lower ones communicate directly with the coast. Finally, public spaces define new uses and relationships with the landscape and host a variety of urban populations that range from traditional Koli fishermen to international tourists. Overall, the designed megablock ecosystem develops a model to gradually relocate its inhabitants into an inclusive neighborhood, an independent piece of the Mumbai urban network.

ATLANTE ROGOREDO

proposal for a residential neighborhood on the former Rogoredo rail yard competition period with

AAA Architetticercasi 2020 January 2020 T. Raimondi

ferta abitativa flessibile e varia.

RESONANCES

design of a kindergarden in the modern Milanese context architectural design studio period September 2015 - February 2016 with Giulia Rossari supervision Gian Carlo Floridi, Angelo Lunati

The project concerns the design of a kindergarden in a empty area in the south suburbs of Milan. Particular attention is given to the surrounding context, which consist in a typical post-war neighborhood of medium and high density residential buildings. As many other residential blocks of the time, what the area is lacking is a complexity of the relations between the public and private spaces, that can be instead observed in the historical fabric of the city. Therefore, the project of the kindegarden aims to reach a certain complexity in the organi-

30

zation of its plan, creating enclosed spaces and frictions between the private environment of a school and the public surroundings. While expanding in plan on the whole area, the elevations of the building are kept quiet: a single storey facade runs equally on the exteriors, where white plaster is combined with a lower strip of warm grey stone that dialogues with the ground and suggest a whole sense of “schoolness of the building.
