Project
Restoration of the military barrack and reuse as the new Pavlos Melas City Hall The project is about a barrack buildings in the Ottoman military base, built at the end of the 19th century. The building was characterized as listed, in 2003. The military base is located in the densely urban grid of the Northwest Thessaloniki, in the Municipality of Pavlos Melas. The base was gradually abandoned by the army. In the first stage of the project, analysis and documentation, a full documentation of all the damage was performed, that led to the final evaluation of the building. A simulation of the static model was performed, using the software ETABS, in order to evaluate the structural behavior of the building according to new building regulations. The evaluation revealed the following conclusions: a) Preservation of the outer shell of the building and reinforcement with metal frames, b) Removal of the reinforced concrete structure, not only because of its inadequacy to comply with the new building regulations, but also because of its low historical and aesthetic values. A new metal frame construction was decided to support the old facades of the building. That choice was made because of the reversibility of the intervention. In the next stage of the project, it was decided that the building will host the new City Hall of the Municipality of Pavlos Melas. The decision to adopt the original typology with two rows of columns in the center, led us to create a central access corridor creating isolated compartments of the offices. The central entrance will be held without a use, as a remembrance of its history, where urban green will penetrate inside. One of our main concerns was to make the old parts easily distinguished from the new ones. This is achieved with the use of the new technologies and materials. National Architectural Greek Competition
“Renovation and reuse of the old Western shipyards and its area, at Irakleio, Crete”
This project was our entry to the National Architectural Competition of “Renovation and reuse of the old Western Shipyards and their area”. The project was awarded among 64 entries of the competition. At the first stage of the designing process, the team started with the analysis of the monument’s site based on bibliographic sources and field investigation. The information was evaluated and processed in order to lead to a valuable final proposal. One of our main concerns was to give the visitors the image of the complete shipyards as they were, with removable constructions that would not harm the old remaining. Our target was to create a contemporary construction that would work seamlessly along-aside with the old ruins.

Diploma project
Restoration and reuse of four buildings at Kleisouras str, in Thessaloniki with a unified extention on top of all
The project is my diploma project at the Architecture School of Thessaloniki. It is about the North facade and the buildings of Kleisouras str, in Thessaloniki. The reason that this site was chosen is its historical value because of the four buildings built in 1925-1935 and characterized as listed. The project hypothesis was the design of an extension that would host a local school of fine arts. This school decided to sit on the roofs of the existing listed buildings as an extension which will not harm the old buildings and would be removable. The new construction differs morphologically from the old buildings by using new materials and technology.
