Police looking for three suspects By Staff Writer THE station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, is calling on any member of the public with information regarding any of the three murders that took place within the policing precinct to please assist.
The precinct has had three murders since yesterday and, unfortunately, no suspect has been arrested in any of the incidents as yet. Last night a foreign shop owner in his twenties was attacked by an unknown number of suspects who gained entry by breaking the wall. Once inside they ransacked the
store, helping themselves to everything they disired, set the building on fire before escaping. The 26-year old store operator died as a result of smoke inhalation. The above incident follows hot on the heels of two murders, one in Kaalfontein where an unknown man was found dead early yesterday. His
Through her digital skills development initiative, Nomnqa has transferred proficient skills to increase employment opportunities and encourage business startups. She has since trained thousands of young people in South Africa and other African countries. About how the organisation’s name came about, Nomnqa said:” The strength and the courage of a lion define a female, the art of bouncing back regardless of what one has been through.” “Brave is defined as ready to face danger and to endure and hence the name was suitable to name the platform that will empower girls and women to become the best version of themselves through this strong and bold affirmation of Brave.” Founder of Imbizo Shisanyama MaZwane, who is Nomnqa’s mentor, said she plans to throw a party to celebrate the award.

SAPS Crime Alert for Oakmore Staff Writer
O
akmore - High unemployment in South Africa is one of the major factors leading to an increase in crime rate. The SAPS in Olifantsfontein have recently released a statement alerting residents of crimes that are happening in Oakmore. Community members are advised to stop walking alone in the late hours because they might be victims of armed robbery and rape. The SAPS says motorists are advised not to park at the old Pretoria road next to Oakmore, rather they park at the nearest garage to avid being victims of crime. According to Constable Mokete Serakwana Communication Officer Olifantsfontein SAPS Oakmore has become a crime hotspot for criminals, many crime cases have been reported that happened in that area so it is best to avoid it especially at night.“We are urging the community members to take our crime alerts into consideration to avoid being victims of crime,” said Constable Serakwana.

Don’t overthink things; JUST START! By Dumisani Hlatswayo
ANGEL.K EVENTS planning is based in Tshepo Section in Thembisa township, Gauteng. It caters for romantic picnics, baby showers, birthday parties (for kids and adults), platters, gift packages, bridal showers, graduation parties, and small traditional weddings that cater to up to 200 guests. Tokollo Mabelebele, Founder and Co-Owner, turns 22 years in June and is currently studying Public Relations at Brooklyn City College in Pretoria. Her mother will be joining the business shortly after expanding their service offering. The business started as a romantic picnic business and then organically developed to other events, challenges were there at the outset, but he overcame them. Her mother has been the inspiration for the business because she wanted to start a decor business that had begun as a romantic picnic business, started towards Valentine’s Day, giving people romantic experiences at affordable prices. “Our clients are welcome to come up with their themes and gift packages. We offer a catalogue for some inspiration,” she says.. The business offers gift packages from as little as R350 and romantic
picnic set-ups, baby showers for ten people from R1200, and catering services from R50 per person. The bigger picture is for the business to grow and cater for big weddings, host seminars, and provide catering services for gala dinners.” Tokollo says up-coming entrepreneurs must start, don’t overthink things, just start, learn along the way, and make mistakes, and that is how you will grow. Tokollo also does braids and eyelashes part-time; you can find more information on Braidzilla Tembisa on Instagram and Facebook. Youngster’s woodwork gets social media buzzing By Staff Writer
S
ometimes we look afar when our inspiration is right in front of us. We may look elsewhere even though our calling is right in front of us. Let alone when the calling is in the genes. Phathutshedzo Nicholus Rapholo is from Louis Trichardt in Limpopo but is now a resident of Thembisa. He completed his schooling at Eqinisweni. S.S. after which he studied Electrical Engineering at Central JHB College where he obtained his N1 and N2 qualifications. He then decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and enrolled at Ekurhuleni Artisans Trade Skills Center in Kempton Park. There he studied carpentry and joinery and then decided to open a company of woodworking. The 26 year old’s company is called Musanda Woodworking where they specialise in custom made furniture, BIC’s kitchen cabinets, stages, shopfitting, office furniture and anything you can think of that is made of wood. “We build it and make it from any type of wood.” He explains. Musanda Woodworking is situated in Winnie Mandela Zone 4 and are open from 7a.m. to 6p.m. “My dad, Donald Rathole is the
one who inspired me to open the business, he’s also a qualified carpenter by trade and he’s been doing carpentry before I was born. I was working with him since I was young so that’s how I got inspired.” He tells The Olifants. Phathutshedzo started his business in 2015 after he registered everything and did research on how to open a business. He then was involved in a group called Fix Forward where he was taught how to make your business succeed, how to save money, how to work with clients, knowing time management etc. Fix Forward also helped him to get jobs and he saved money so he could buy the machinery needed in the carpentry industry. With regards to his customers he relays “We deal with all kinds of customers. Like offices, in offices we once made for Toyota Lexus office cabinets, engine garage, pharmacies, events and private homes. And we travel anywhere.” At their workshop they have displays, catalogues and use cellphones as they have lots of stuff. They also allow clients to come with their own designs. Their prices defer as they design anything from R500 to R500, 000. Musanda Woodworking also
provides a delivery service for which they charge depending on the distance which is R150 local delivery and R250 beyond 10 Km. The entrepreneur works with his father, and has 5 employees working with them. Phathutshedzo has no other side hustles and is solely focused on his business at present until everything is stable and well developed. His future plans include seeing himself being the best and a
well-known furniture manufacturer in the world. With words of encouragement he concludes “Challenge yourself. Do work you care about. Take the risk, believe in yourself. Have a vision, face your fears, and take action. Do the time, learn from complaints. Know your goals, know your customers, and understand your industry. Spend wisely, lastly, deliver more than expected.”

Thembisa chronic patients urged to use pele boxes By Staff Writer
T
he City of Ekurhuleni urges qualifying patients with chronic conditions to use the medication-dispensing machines conveniently placed at the City’s clinics to avoid queues. The Pelebox Winnie Mandela Clinic is Zone 6, Mandela. Since the launch of the Pele-boxes, which function as medication-dispensing machines, in 2019 the service was extended to 25 clinics across the City giving chronic patients an option to choose a dispensing machine closer to their place of work or home. The City reiterates that the service is only open to stable patients who have been on treatment for at least a year and their vital signs are within normal limits. Following a consultation with a professional nurse, patients are given six-month repeat medication that they collect from the medication-dispensing machines, and come back for review after the expiry of the prescription.
During this six-month period, patients collect their medication from the Pele-box after receiving an SMS with a pin code that assists in opening the box to receive their medication. A visit to the local clinic to review the scripts and treatment every six
months is mandatory. Patients who received medication from Pele-boxes are also advised to visit the clinic when not feeling well, or unfamiliar side effects from their medication.

7 learners were found with sharp objects By Dumisani Hlatswayo
A
t least seven learners in Zitikeni Secondary School, in Thembisa were found with sharp objects. Thembisa’s Communication Officer, Social Crime Prevention, GBV Coordinator, Department of Education, and patrollers went to Zitikeni Secondary School to conduct a search operation on learners. This follows ongoing school fights and complaints from the teachers about learners. As a result, the police and the Department of Education, represented by Maphuthi Williams, decided to embark on the unannounced school search operation. “All learners entering the school premises were searched from the gate,” said the statement. According to the police, most learners were seen discarding many unknown items from a distance. At least seven learners who brought sharp objects and cigarettes to school were taken to the school principal’s office for questioning. “One of the learners who was found in possession of dagga was suspended with immediate effect,” said the police. The police call on parents to check
their children’s school bags. Also, not give them exorbitant amounts of money for lunch. Constable Makgupya, Social Crime Prevention and Schools Coordinator, thanked all parents who played their role. She advised parents to prepare lunch boxes for their children instead of giving them money. As much as the police and the Department of Education strive to correct the learners, parents have a role to play in ensuring the schools are safe in Thembisa.

Using soccer as an effective tool By Dumisani Hlatswayo
L
ima Sports Programme held a successful Easter Classic Cup Programme. The Lima Sports Programme continued this year during the Easter Weekend to be synonymous with making a difference in the community of Tembisa. Lima, as an organisation, encourages young people to do their level best on the field and encourages them to do well at school. Lima believes in “the power of the ball” in all sporting codes as an effective tool to empower the youth. The power of sport lies in its ability to instill, inspire and affect positive change. Sport changes attitude builds skills and brings together people of all races and abilities. At the same time, some might see a ball as a toy or a simple sports equipment. Lima sees the initiative as an invitation, a life-changer, and often a lifesaver as we have a lot of challenges like alcohol abuse, drugs, teenage pregnancy, and other social ills. A ball is an iconic shareable experience; when you pass a ball through hands or feet to one another, there’s a different feeling to it.
Barriers are broken, opportunities are created, connections are made, and most importantly, friendships are formed. That positive exchange of spirit and achievement forms the basis of a strong foundation. The Lima Sports Programme entailed: ● Men’s Soccer, ● Women’s Soccer, ● Netball, ● Basketball, and ● Chess. It was a 4-day mini sports program with four sporting codes over that same weekend. “Christians celebrate Easter because they believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected three days after his execution, his crucifixion on a Friday (known as Good Friday). In Christianity, his body was taken down from the cross to a tomb where he was buried. So we were trying to incorporate the Easter weekend holidays and sports in teaching the children the story behind the long weekend,” said Founder Derrick Maphoru. The concept of the Easter program was about teams participating, representing their respective sections as a way of ensuring that each section has as many players from its backyards:
● 11 Attackers-Siziba ● Golden boys-Wela Mlambo ● Home Defenders-Teaming ● Moshishi FC- Klipfontein ● Clayville tigers- Clayville ● Flamingo-Mangweni ● Swallows-Kgatlamping ● Silver Stars-Greenfield, and ● Super Boys-Motion. They competed to become respective kings and queens of their sections. People can contact LIMA on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for more information.
