The City of Ekurhuleni warns of scam The City of Ekurhuleni has issued a statement to the residents of Ekurhuleni to be aware of a scam on social media. According to the City, the scam is carried out by a person posing to be the Executive Mayor of the City, Mzwandile Masina on Facebook. “Mayor Masina’s personal Facebook account was hacked by scammers and reports sent to the Mayor’s office claimed that the Mayor was allegedly messaging members of the public on the

Man found with firearms, military and police uniform by Dumisani Hlatswayo
A
47 year old man from Ivory Park’s Extension 07, on parole since 2016, is due to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for illegally possessing two firearms, police and military uniforms and other law enforcement paraphernalia. Law enforcement officers consisting of staff from the department of community safety and the local police officers received information about the man’s illegal possessions. Once they arrived at the address on Friday evening they found a man whose appearance perfectly suited the description given to them. Following short introductions the man was, after he granted the officers permission, searched. He was found in possession of a handgun concealed on his body, and another one in a bag he was carrying. The bag also contained hand gloves. Inside his place the officers found an SANDF and police issued bullet vests, uniform and other paraphernalia such as blue light, radio and handcuffs.
He had no license to possess the two firearms, the seven rounds of live ammunition and had no authority or basis for possession of the uniform. Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, has welcomed the arrest, the recovery of the said items and has taken his hat off for the local community for continuously coming forward with positive information. “Had it not being for you, the law abiding citizens of Ivory Park, this man could have gone on to be a source of misery and trauma to innocent people out there. We, both my management and other staff members, want to thank you profusely for your valuable information, which we promise to act on as soon as something has been brought to our attention,” said Brigadier Ngcobo. It is worth pointing out that this suspect had been in jail for more than seven years after he was convicted of car theft and attempted murder. He is still on parole.

Tembisa’s Royal House of Macingwane II is in business
T
he Tembisa-based royal house of AmaNdebele akwa Ndzunza Mabhoko, the Royal House of Macingwane II, held an inauguration of its company MD Masilela Group on Saturday. The event saw local representatives from different sections of Tembisa and Faith Based Organisations attend. Throughout the event the level 3 regulations were observed. “For the past three months we faced a challenging period as a country because of this COVID-19 pandemic. I am taking precautions, but I still need to serve my people. My vision is to create a healthy community system that will create self-sustainability, towards the development of our community” said Chief Macingwane II. The chief has spent nearly a year building the royal house company. “We started building it from the 24th of June last year. So this means there is progress and there is something that will alleviate poverty and help our local leaders,” he said. “Chief Macingwane II approached us in June last year,” revealed
Chief Macingwane II
Patrick Moraka, founder of Pheme Consulting who also handles the stakeholder management for the Mall of Tembisa. “After having seen some of the work that we do particularly involving the Mall of Tembisa. So he then told us he needs our help to modernise his chieftaincy and formalise some of the operations. That’s how we got started,” he continued. “Today is the day when he takes the members and appoint them in positions created since we started last year,” Moraka revealed. Moraka said the royal house is
structured into two. The first is the house that has royal leadership, the other side is the business of the chief that is under the company MD Masilela Group. “Of the 34 people that he appointed today is the 17 who are going to run MD Masilela Group, and the other 17 are people that will be working with him in his cabinet,” he explained. He said the other people the chief hasn’t mentioned today are the elders who will continue playing a crucial role in the royal house. “He still works with the elders. What attracted me about this project is when Chief Macingwane said do you know that in 1994 South Africa was supposed to be a United Kingdom of South Africa. South Africa was made up of Kingdoms before apartheid,” Moraka said. Chief Macingwane II has a great vision for the people of Tembisa and he says this is the beginning of that vision. “We want to create jobs for our people. We want to access business opportunities and create wealth for our children,” said Chief Macingwane.
Ivory Park man arrested after a year of dodging by Staff Writer
A
fter being on the run for more than two years, an Ivory Park man has been arrested in connection with a murder incident that took place in January 2018. Ivory Park detectives assigned to the case, through their networks, got wind of the fact that the 31-year-old suspect was back in the area, 14 months after he escaped. He was arrested near his home a week ago. The suspect is alleged to have been involved in a lovers quarrel with another man over the affections of the same lady. It is alleged that on that day the lady’s other boyfriend came to the suspect’s address looking for her. A squabble ensued between the two men as the other man wanted to leave with the lady and the suspect was having none of that. During the argument the suspect is alleged to have taken out a knife and stabbed the deceased
on the upper body. The victim was certified dead at the scene. The suspect fled the scene shortly after the incident, running as far away as KwaZulu Natal. Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, has welcomed the arrest, noting that it signifies the concept of the long arm of the law, that is capable of catching up with anyone, however long it takes. “We hope that this arrest is a first step in assisting the deceased’s family in getting the much needed closure, and the much deserved answers surrounding their loved ones death,” said Brigadier Ngcobo. The suspect is being charged with murder and is expected to make his first appearance in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court very soon. hemba Msimango is a student of life who is deeply driven by philosophy. The Tembisa born is fascinated by perennial wisdom of how to live and die, human nature and power. “ I chose Stoicism philosophy as my operating system of life. Stoicism is an ancient philosophy that teaches the principles of knowing what is in your control and not in your control. On a lighter note, I am a simple and humble guy who enjoys learning from everyone. Lastly, I am a Public Relations Consultant at FNB,” he tells The Olifants News. He says growing up in Tembisa (Xubeni section) was a mix bag of experiences that shaped him to become a better person. “I have never spoken publicly, but I was raised in a one room backroom. My grandmother and late grandfather were kind enough to build us this backroom. I lived in this one
room with my mother Joanah Lubisi and my younger brother Jabulane Msimango. I will forever be grateful to them for this. This room was filled with warm love, dreams, support and striving to be a better person,” he recalls. “I started working in primary school for a tuckshop called KwaThwala (no longer operating). The tuckshop was known for making the best kotas and my job was to peel potatoes. I was one of the fastest people who can peel a potato quicker and I eventually graduated to making kotas,” he continues. He was faced with a dilemma of going to university or taking care of his sick mother and he chose the latter. “I chose to take care of my mother because she means the world to me. She did every odd job you can think off to raise me and my brother,” he says. Msimango is the cofounder of Readers Minds, an initiative to promote reading. “According to the
South African Book Development Council, at the time in 2016, only five percent of South African parents read to their children. With 14 percent of the population being active book-readers,” says Msimango. He says life living in lockdown has been very eye opening for him. “I now have more time to focus on the things that matter to me such as writing for my blog, reading and connecting with family and friends,” he explains. When he is not writing or reading, he is listening to Gareth Cliff’s podcasts. He considers Ryan Holiday as one of the great philosophers and strategic thinkers. “His writing introduced me to Stoicism, how to shape my character and live my life, timeless wisdom, strategy, media and marketing.” Connect with Themba on Twitter: @TheMicMsimango @ ReadersMinds Blog: thembamsimango.wordpress.com

Fitness fanatics can now excercise by Dumisani Hlatswayo
F
itness fanatics in Ekurhuleni can now take to the street to exercise following a relaxation of regulations under level 3. Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola said South Africans will still have restricted exercise times under the country’s level 3 lockdown. The updated exercise times will now be between 06h00 – 18h00. “I don’t support this decision especially with the pandemic growing
rapidly,” said manager of Tembisa United, Patrick Mabitlela. You can cycle, run, and walk within your neighbourhood – but not in a group. All COVID-19 health and safety protocols must be followed at all times, including observance of guidelines for social distancing, sanitation and hygiene, and appropriate use of face masks, cautions the National Department of Health. Meanwhile all sporting activities, including soccer remain suspended.

The Western Cape remains the epicentre with 22567 confirmed cases with Gauteng as the second province with a 4231 recorded cases,” announced Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.
“There are a total of 742 742 tests have been processed cumulatively of which 17 617 tests have been conducted since the last report,” he continued. Residents of Olifantsfontein are reminded to wear masks all the time.
