Social Investment Tax Relief For business or individuals wanting to be involved either in part or in full to create a bespoke package of investment to Foot in the Door Films. Social Investment Tax Relief may be available. Social Investment Tax Relief is a tax incentive for individuals making an investment into a charity or social enterprise. Individuals making an eligible investment can deduct 30% of the cost of their investment from their income tax liability. It is modelled on the existing Enterprise Investment Scheme. The maximum investment into an individual organisation is approximately £270,000 over three years. Individual investors can invest up to £1 million and can invest in multiple charities and social enterprises per year.
An example of how SITR might work for you would be: Individuals making an eligible investment can deduct 30% of the cost of their investment from their income tax liability, either for the tax year in which the investment is made or the previous tax year (if 2014/15 or later). The investment must be held for a minimum period of 3 years for the relief to be retained. Investment Value Tax Relief 30% Actual investment in real terms
£100,000 £30,000 £70,000
If individuals have chargeable gains in that tax year, they can also defer their capital gains tax (CGT) liability if they invest their gain in a qualifying social investment. Tax will instead be payable when the social investment is sold or redeemed. They also pay no CGT on any gain on the investment itself, but they must pay income tax in the normal way on any dividends or interest on the investment.

Appendix One The Sustainable Business Case The BFI commission’s report on the UK independent film industry for 2018 confirmed that the UK has the creative might: UK independent film is a cradle of talent, both behind and in- front of the camera, supporting our global reach and attracting the best film and TV players from across the globe to make their homes here in the UK. UK independent film matters: it has the power to promote our diverse and vibrant way of life, influence how the world sees us with stories that celebrate UK culture and ideas and drive the exports of UK plc. All increasingly important as we leave the EU and shape our new place in the world. The UK independent film business is a great enabler of film talent, storytelling and innovation. www.bfi.org.uk/sites/bfi.org.uk/files/downloads/ bfi-commission-on-uk-independent-film-2018-07-18.pdf www.lcrskillsforgrowth.org.uk/uploadedfiles/documents/LCRCA_DIGITAL_AP.pdf
