While we discuss the challenges facing our planet, we try not to dwell on negatives so prevalent in more frequent media outlets. We prefer to focus on what good people are doing to overcome these challenges. Catch up on events, news and entertainment in social media, on our website, in our Thursday eblast or in the print magazine. We circulate an online newsletter with our top suggestions for enjoying the weekend and late breaking tidbits that we may not have known about when the magazine last went to press. You can subscribe for free online. Exploring www.ParadiseNEWSfl.com, you can access five years of back issues. Feature stories are capsulized by year and a wealth of local history, pet health, eco, travel, food and cooking columns, recipes and much more are discoverable. While the magazine typically debuts online on the first of each month, it takes about a week before copies begin to appear in racks and stacks throughout the area. It takes another week for the post office to get it to 25,000 mailboxes. The content is designed to be pertinent at least until the next issue arrives in the mail, so regular print readers miss nothing, even when the issue arrives around the 15th. Feel free to reach out to us on social media. We are here for you, with you, because of you. Together let’s keep the wonders of the natural world in sight and mind on our journey.

Our full concierge service will guide you through the process of obtaining your card and medicine every step of the way. If you are new to cannabis, come in and speak with us and we’d be happy to guide you through the best way cannabis can bring relief to your life. CBD is a great non-psychoactive place to start if you’re new to the cannabis world containing many medicinal and antiinflammatory benefits. Call The Centre at 727-258-2001. What can it help with? Peter Grinspoon, MD, wrote in the Journal of Harvard Medical School in April 2020, “There are few subjects that can stir up stronger emotions among doctors, scientists, researchers, policy makers, and the public than medical marijuana. “Medical Marijuana is legal in 29 states, and in Washington, DC. About 85% of Americans support legalizing medical marijuana, and it is estimated that at least several million Americans currently use it. Least controversial is the extract from the hemp plant known as CBD (which stands for cannabidiol) because this component of marijuana has little, if any, intoxicating properties. Marijuana itself has more than 100 active components. THC (which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol) is the chemical that has several purposes, 1) opens up the endocannabinoid system to function effectively, 2) attack pain and 3) causes

THE CENTRE-ST. PETE BEACH 7525 Blind Pass Road, St. Pete Beach FL 33706 727.258.2001 | www.TheCentreSPB.com

the ‘high’ that can go along with marijuana consumption. CBD-dominant strains have from ZERO to less than or equal to 00.3% (a pinch as my grandmother used to say in cooking) ‘a pinch of salt’ so patients report very little if any alteration in consciousness. Patients report many benefits of CBD, from relieving insomnia, anxiety, spasticity, and pain to treating potentially life-threatening conditions such as epilepsy and cancer.”

The most common use for medical marijuana in the United States is for pain control. While marijuana isn’t strong enough for severe pain (for example, post-surgical pain or a broken bone), it is quite effective for the chronic pain that plagues millions of Americans, especially as they age. Part of its allure is that it is clearly safer than opiates (it is impossible to overdose on) and it can take the place of NSAIDs such as Advil or Aleve, if people can’t take them due to problems with their kidneys or ulcers or GERD. In particular, marijuana appears to ease the pain of multiple sclerosis, and nerve pain in general. This is an area where few other options exist, and those that do, such as Neurontin, Lyrica, or opiates, are highly sedating. Patients claim that marijuana allows them to resume their previous activities without feeling completely out of it and disengaged. Along these lines, marijuana is said to be a fantastic muscle relaxant, and people swear by its ability to lessen tremors in Parkinson’s disease. I have also heard of its use quite successfully for fibromyalgia, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, and most other conditions where the final common pathway is chronic pain.

Marijuana is also used to manage nausea and weight loss and can be used to treat glaucoma. A highly promising area of research is its use for PTSD in veterans who are returning from combat zones. Many veterans and their therapists report drastic improvement and clamor for more studies, and for a loosening of governmental restrictions on its study. _______________________________ A few months, ago we wrote and published a piece about an article in the September 2020 edition of Reader’s Digest entitled The Promise of CBD, in which the four people interviewed felt the same way about that over-the-counter, non-psychoactive, unregulated, cannabidiol component of the hemp plant. How do you know what you need? Sage advice is “Start Slowly and Small.” The key is to micro-dose the THC component and take larger dosages of the CBD component. Staff at The Centre and Triverde have experience and can help guide you. The goal is not to get high, just to provide your system with the minimum stimulus it needs to do its magic. A micro-dose is often enough. For example, some people say “Five drops of CBD oil helps me sleep like a baby” or “A half hour after I eat half a gummy, my fibromyalgia symptoms fade away for hours.” MuV makes three-day patches with just CBD, just THC and 50:50 that provide a continuous micro-dose ever 30 minutes over three days and range from $12-$15. Many people love those too. Call The Centre at 727-258-2001 for more information or just stop in. We’re attached to Lenny’s Bike & Surf Shop, sharing a parking lot with Walgreens in St. Pete Beach. Enter from 76th Avenue.

In March, Senate President Wilton Simpson and Speaker Chris Sprowls announced a deal on this sales tax. This money will mitigate an increase in business tax this year (2021). PROPERTY LAW

Travels through Property Law by Tom Brodersen, Esq.

To The New Floridian Do you have a recently written will? Maybe even an estate plan? How about a trust, designation of health care surrogate, or durable power of attorney? It’s very good if you do, but, even if your plans and preferences for the handling of your estate are completely unchanged, there may be problems with those documents, if they were drafted in another state, under that state’s laws. Florida’s laws are remarkably different from most other states in a number of respects. Some wills honored in other states are absolutely not valid in Florida (such as holographic wills that lack the two witnesses required here). Florida law permits self-proving wills, which, if complied with, makes it much easier to admit such wills in court. But if you come from a state that doesn’t have such a law (or one structured differently than ours), it will be much more difficult to prove your will in court. The powers of trustees are significantly different here than most other states. You can probably accomplish all of the things that you wanted to, but you may

to the exact form of legal title in which you should take real estate. Many people put great effort into an estate plan, and then destroy it all by writing deeds changing their title. have to re-work the language to make it fit with Florida law. Powers of attorney have special rules in Florida. Some powers you would give to your agent are considered “super-powers,” and require special documentation to prove that you actually meant to grant such powers. Florida’s homestead laws are truly a nightmare for non-Florida attorneys. Even we refer to homestead as Florida’s legal chameleon, as homestead means a number of different things in different contexts. Misapplication of homestead law can destroy your estate plan. It can also affect the real estate taxes you will pay during your lifetime, so some skill needs to be applied to such decisions. Similarly, great thought needs to be given

Probate in Florida, like many states, is often very expensive, sometimes running from about 3% to 7% of the value of the entire estate. If you don’t have a trust in Florida, just a will, your family will likely end up going through probate. This is just a thumbnail list of changes that may be required in your documents to make them valid and enforceable in Florida, and there are many others, but cheer up! Diny’s Jewelers will once again be hosting

National Rarities, America’s most trusted estate buyers in mid-May. They were here before Valentine’s Day and were happy with the turnout then, but with many of us fully vaccinated, they expect an even bigger turnout for May 18-20 from 10am-5:30pm Tuesday-Wednesday and 10am-5pm Thursday. National Rarities has been partnering with trusted local jewelers around the country to provide residents a way to have valuables appraised and sold without leaving the neighborhood. Local jewelers attest that National Rarities is a trustworthy company with an unblemished history, an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and 5-star Google rating. National Rarities has resale partners looking for many different types of collectibles, and enough experience to provide fair offers on the spot. There is never an obligation to sell, however most people do, when they hear the offers for their collectibles. Many sellers find this a convenient way to liquidate valuable collectibles they may have inherited or acquired over their lifetimes and get something brand new, even

DINING OUT

By Nanette Wiser

Eat Your Veggies Grace’s Beet Salad

Greenstock Salad

From spring salads to cauliflower crust veggie pizza, Paradise blooms with veggie appetizers, meals and cocktails. In addition to serving greens, many restaurant kitchens are going green and using sustainable practices including minimizing food waste, using bio-degradable containers and eco-friendly cleaning products. The big restaurant trend of 2021 is using sustainable foods that are organic, local and fair trade – all of which support the long-term maintenance of ecosystems and agriculture. Feed your mind and body with plant-based dishes and give your gut a break. You can always count on Asian restaurants such as Nori Thai and Basil Leaf for excellent veggie fare. We like Nature’s Patch, Sprouts, Fresh Market, Rollin’ Oats and the new Seminole City Center Green Market Café for grab & go veggie bowls/dishes. Celebrate Earth Day month with a few of these delicious vegetarian meals from our fave restos and food trucks. (menus subject to change, call ahead)

DOWNTOWN ST. PETE

Treasure Island: BGBR Kitchen & Bar’s tomato bruschetta jar, pan-seared edamame pods, roasted beet salad with goat cheese and raspberry basil smash cooler are swoon-worthy. Middlegrounds Grill offers a gluten-free menu, artichoke smoked gouda fondue and delicious grilled asparagus salad drizzled with a sundried tomato ratatouille. Taco Bus’s El Borrito Bols, especially the portabella ranchero and vegan steak, rock.

Toasted Monkey

St. Pete Beach: The Toasted Monkey’s Buffalo cauliflower florets and housemade hummus with a side of live music makes my day. Society Table’s goat cheese fritters, roasted mushroom flatbread and potato leek bisque will captivate you. Skidder’s Sunshine Salad, spinach pie, Greek antipasto and eggplant parmesan sandwich are delish. At Rumfish Grill, try the Three Dips (chick peas, avocado cilantro, beet feta and grilled naan or grilled cauliflower cakes.

Cider Press Café

Jake’s Coastal Cantina

Madeira Beach: Lucky Lizard Tap House serves a delicious roasted corn Caesar salad. Mad Beach Craft Brewing’s falafel is served on arugula with a side of vegetable roast, lemon wedges and cilantro crema.

At the Dewey Beach Bar & Grill, start with the golden beet salad with a brown butter sage vinaigrette, fried brussel sprouts or the burrata with garlic confit, then sup on the quinoa bowl with black beans, wild mushrooms, roasted corn, squash, green apple, radish arugula salad, pepitas and smoked chimichurri vinaigrette. Gulfport: In Gulfport, you’ll appreciate the savory pastas at Pia Trattoria or Tutto Bene and Neptune’s Grill (stuffed grape leaves, hummus, Greek salad, spanakopita). Stella’s black bean cakes, quiche and banana nut bread French toast start the morning right.

GULF BEACHES North Beaches: Havana Harry’s offers an excellent vegetarian Cuban. Jake’s Coastal Cantina Mexican veggie bowl with meatless Oumph is an amazing deal; add a side of roasted street corn or fried jalapeno coins. Kooky Coconut’s veggie burrito, Ippolito’s vegetarian antipasto sandwich and all the salads at Guppy’s and Salt Rock Grill are deeply satisfying.

We can’t wait for Two Graces near freeFall Theater to open but until then, we love Grace Restaurant’s elegant fare especially the Grace Wedge with buttermilk horseradish dressing, grilled Caesar salad, roasted butternut squash with quinoa, fava beans, broccoli, golden raisins and pine nuts and the Stuart cocktail (Butterfly Blossom infused 360 Sicilian Lemon Vodka with fresh lemon).

Without a doubt, The Mill and Cider Press Café are the go-to places for vegetarian delights. The Mill’s supreme salads include an Heirloom Watercress (beet jam, sugar snap peas, watermelon, oven-dried cherry tomatoes, watermelon radish, roasted cashews, honey goat cheese, watermelon vinaigrette) and Phyllo Feta salad; add the fried green tomatoes and goat-cheese stuffed peppadews. Cider Press Café’s vegan menu is outstanding, especially the veggie lentil loaf, truffle shuffle and ghost bean burger. Fab sensational veggie dishes in DTSP include Annata Wine’s vegetarian flatbread of the day, Bodega’s tempeh sandwich, Datz’s butternut squash ravioli, Greenstock’s creative salads and wraps and Craft Kafé ‘s gluten free dishes, organic salads and vegan burger. Sample Leafy Greens Café’s lettuce wrap tacos, The Library’s crispy avocado wedges or veggie chili, Love Food Central’s mashed garbanzo toast or barbecue jackfruit sandwich, Lucy’s Vegan Corner’s plant-based burger, gyro and banh mi or Mickey’s Café & Organics’ roasted veggie salad. Taste test Mio’s Grill & Café’s babaganouj smoked eggplant with tahini, Greek yogurt and pita, Naked Farmer’s pecan kale Caesar, Pom Pom’s Teahouse pressed Danny sandwich (ginger cranberry chutney, almonds, red onions, brie, apples), Stillwater’s Tavern’s vegetarian pad thai, Thirsty First’s ginger salad and viva la vegan sandwich and Wooden Rooster’s veggie crepes and mixed berry spinach salad.

‘New’ Set for Grand Reopening Week of April 26 Story by STEVE TRAIMAN Photos by Janet Nummi

When the St. Pete Beach Library officially has its Grand Reopening week of celebrations starting April 26, visitors will find what is essentially a brand-new facility that had its original grand opening October 28, 1969. (See sidebar for tentative reopening schedule.) Betcinda Kettells, who joined the staff in October of 2015, became the Administrator in August of 2016 and was named Director in 2020, told Paradise News,“We moved to a temporary Gulf Boulevard location in March of 2020 and provided curbside service there until we opened back up to the public in May of 2020. We continued service there until February 20, 2021, and reopened the renovated library on March 1, 2021. New children’s area with Dean Fortune’s dramatic undersea murals 

APRIL 2021 | ParadiseNewsFL.com

“In addition to providing all materials and services at the temporary location (except programming) we also successfully dealt with the challenges of Covid-19 and instituted a Little Free Pantry to assist with food donations to insecure individuals and families. “The library is, for all essential purposes, completely new on the inside from the roof to the floor. A/C ducts, ceiling, lighting, all new furniture and shelving, flooring. The signage inside and out has been redone in the original outdoor sign font. The landscaping, delivery ramp, new book drop, bike rack, benches, and, soon, a new parking lot are included in the outdoor improvements.” “In addition to an expanded Children’s section, there are larger sections for Large Print books, Audio/Video CDs and DVDs, and the Friends of the Library Bookstore. “Dramatic and whimsical sea life murals in the Children’s area and on shelf end-caps were graciously donated by local artist Dean Fortune.”

charging stations Larger 12-unit public computer area with new in-floor electrical hook-up

St. Pete Beach Library Schedule For Grand Reopening Events

Added Library Clerk Tom DeCair, “Although basic library materials remain roughly in their previous locations, streamlined new shelving and removal of bulky interior pillars provides plenty of space for 12 public computers, up from 10. (Social distancing limits current availability to five public computers.)

Coordinated by City Recreation Director Jennifer McMahon and Library Director Betcinda Kettells, here’s the tentative schedule for April 26-May 1 events celebrating the library’s Grand Reopening, with masks requested:

“The additional space and all-new energy efficient LED lighting give the library an open, airy look that contrasts dramatically with the dark, dingy library of a year ago.“

Monday, April 26, 9:30am Ribbon cutting ceremony for special invitees, with Friends of the Library giveaway and McDonald’s coffee outside.

“New seating areas with new, mid-century modern furniture include a charging station, and two charging poles that provide up to 28 additional locations for charging electronic devices.

Tuesday, April 27, 4pm Kids’ Day, with after-care and Gulf Beaches Elementary 6, 7 & 8-year-olds invited for youth area and community room for crafts, with parent pick up at the library.

“A new generation self-service checkout machine is user friendly and can show patrons their checkouts, holds and fines, in addition to checking out and renewing items. “The City Commission has turned the alley behind the library between 73rd and Corey into a one-way thoroughfare from Boca Ciega to Blind Pass to facilitate a new, 70% larger 24-hour book drop for all library materials located on the left (driver) side of the alley. “A new ramp to the back door provides access for delivery and pickup of hundreds of books weekly from/to other libraries. back door delivery, and book drop staff access help minimize interference with library patrons. “Also new is an internal book drop for all library items being returned, that now go through a door slot to the back room for processing and can’t get dropped in places where they’re confused with checkouts or shelving.“

CITY OFFICIALS COMMENT Mayor Alan Johnson told Paradise News, “The St. Pete Beach library was constructed in its current location in 1969 and has been a part of the city’s history ever since. While some of our residents think ‘no one uses a library anymore’, those people need to spend some time there - it’s busy! “More importantly it’s a place where our community congregates. SPB is a resort destination as well as a Gulf Coast beach town. We are the #1 beach in the country this year and that is not just because of what Mother Nature blessed us with, but also because of our people, our community! “The library is a big part of that, it’s where people come, congregate and in part help to create that community. Visitors come and enjoy our resorts and other amenities, but it’s the warmth of our residents and the sense of community that makes them feel welcome and anxious to come back. “Renovating the building brought it up to modern standards while maintaining the historic architecture which will continue the city’s enduring character for many years into the future. In my opinion preserving our community is priceless.” City Manager Alex Rey emphasized,“It’s not often a community has the opportunity to modernize and restore a building to a design that is in keeping with its history and its future. While that’s no easy task, it’s one that the people behind the St. Pete Beach Library renovation took to heart and succeeded brilliantly. “The library was designated as a historical structure in 2020 and the plans for renovation of this 1969 building were aimed at modernizing its service capabilities and amenities while staying true to its late mid-century roots. “With a new roof, windows, ceiling, and lighting, we were able to give the facility the modernization it required. We didn’t want to 22

lose the charm and retro vibe. The design, branding, colors and outside landscaping were chosen with these things in mind. The outcome is captivatingly modern, and yet nostalgic. It’s a shining example of how a library can be a community focal point by exemplifying the community’s personality. “In addition to lending media, the library is a place for entertainment, group gatherings, and computer usage, as well as educational and social programming. To bolster these efforts, the Friends of the Library has donated over $26,500 and are on track to purchase additional items as well. “The overall $2.6 million renovation will help the library continue its valuable offerings to the people of St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, and the South Pasadena communities in a building that benefits the whimsical personality of our award-winning beach town.” Added Vince Tenaglia, assistant city manager and point person on the project,“We were very lucky with great contractors like Hennessy who kept the job on target. The City Commission really came through with about $2.6 million to fund the project, plus about $130,000 from the PPLC library consortium and over $26,500 from the Friends of the Library. “Special thanks to Recreation Director Jennifer McMahon and Library Director Betcinda Kettells for coordinating the Grand Reopening week of celebrations for all the library’s publics.” “What started out as a roof repair ended up as a brand-new library of which our entire community can be very proud!” [Editor’s Note: Special thanks to Betcinda Kettells, Tom DeCair, Mayor Alan Johnson, City Manager Alex Rey, and Assistant City Manager Vince Tenaglia for their excellent comments and input.] [Steve Traiman is president of Creative Copy by Steve Traiman, St. Pete Beach, providing business writing services at traimancreativecopy@gmail.com or by phone to 727-363-7531.]

DOWNTOWN CONCIERGE Night Market St. Pete Karma Juice Bar & Eatery

Karma Juice Bar & Eatery now serves iconic craft cocktails made with fresh juices inside their Baum Avenue Market location in the EDGE. Fresh juices, veggie delights and the Pink Dragon non-alcoholic smoothie (pitaya, mango, orange, pineapple, strawberry, banana) are swoon-worthy. Intermezzo is also introducing a new menu and cocktail list, and we love the Midnight Cowboy (vida mezcal, cognac, rich rosemary syrup, cardamom bitters, peychaud’s bitters, and flamed orange peel).

We can’t get enough of Beans & Barlour’s boozy desserts. But there’s more. You can get NY bagels baked fresh each morning from dough shipped from The Big Apple. We also are looking forward to the pet and family friendly Outdoor Night Market 4/29 from 6-9pm at the St. Pete Side Lot (2133 2nd Avenue South) next to 3 Daughters Brewing. Can’t wait to try the menu, including the spam sliders and pupu platter.

Waterfront views from The Pier restaurants and bars are in huge demand, but don’t forget about Fresco’s and The Big Catch at Salt Creek, the paw-fect place to eat, drink and listen to live music with your fur baby. Come by boat or car. See the city like a local with a St. Pete Biking Tour to DTSP’s breweries, explore history and heritage or ogle the amazing art murals. SPORTS BARS Take me out to the ball game, or better yet, to a bar where I can enjoy my Rays and a brewski. For a home game, Dr. BBQ and Ferg’s downtown are THE place to hang, but don’t forget Yard of Ale, Park & Rec, Thirsty First, The Crafty Squirrel, Urban Stillhouse and all the craft breweries. Miller’s Ale House, Whiskey Wings and Hooters offer lots of TVs and specials. Cheer for your team at Sea Dog Brewing Company in Treasure Island and Gulfport and Sea Hags in Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach and Seminole. MARGARITA MADNESS During the pandemic, we turned to comfort cocktails that are easy to make. Nothing says happy like a margarita, shaken, stirred or frozen in tropical flavors like strawberry, mango and peach. I just had a Desert Rose Milagro margarita at the Getaway, far superior to my humble concoctions. The popularity is not just local. During the last year, sales of tequila have grown 66.5 percent according to Nielsen data. Of all spirits on Drizly, tequila brands Casamigos and Don Julio have become the third and ninth selling brand. At home, you can experiment with small batch tequilas and agave and new pre-mixes. If you love your Keurig, you will love Drinkworks’ boozy cocktail pods for at-home preparations. A big controversy is Cointreau or triple sec, similar to the gin vs. vodka in a martini debate. Made from sweet and bitter orange skins, I prefer Cointreau, stronger at 40%. I prefer silver and agave, but tequila choice is very, very personal. Fresh lime is a must and a good simple syrup.

Cinco de Mayo is coming up, so you owe it to yourself to tipple a margarita in preparation at our local bars. Red Mesa Cantina is my fave for sublime margaritas, especially their strawberry mint and cucumber margarita. Their Hot Carlos features Hornitos Reposado, fresh muddled jalapeno, lime juice, agave nectar and a chili salt rim. VIP Mexican (with a second location in Indian Rocks Beach) whips up outstanding and very strong margies. Since Mother’s Day is coming up, why not make these pink margaritas in honor of Mom? You can make a mix of Kosher Salt and flavored sugar for the rim, to let her know you’ve been naughty, but now you’re nice. Pink Lemonade Margarita 1 can frozen pink lemonade 3 cans water (use lemonade can) 1 can tequlia 1/2 can Grand Marnier Pour everything into a pitcher and stir well. Chill for one hour. Salt the glass rim and garnish with a lime wedge.

Explore The Great Outdoors

This is the perfect time of year to learn a new sport or embrace a favorite pastime. Not all of us are ready to go back to the gym, so here are dozens of outdoor adventures to explore solo or with a friend, or a group you find on Meetup. You can start simple, with badminton in the backyard or pickleball on your tennis court. Looking for an athletic club? Check out the Arts & Leisure guide and learn more about Tampa Bay Beach Bums for volleyball, Mad Dogs Wednesday swim and St. Pete Roadrunners.

GAMES & GET FIT

There’s an outdoor fun fit for everyone from team sports (softball, rugby), to games such as bocce ball and shuffleboard (Pass-A-Grille and downtown St. Pete). Let your feet do the walking to these adventures. OHM My: Yoga on the beach from the DTSP Pier (which also hosts some pop-up cycling) to Madeira and Indian Rocks beaches are everywhere. Check Facebook and city rec centers and the Y for listings. You can even do goat yoga in Largo at DK Landscaping and Farm April 24th. Outdoor Fitness Zones: You can stretch, do sit ups and work on your balance at the parcours in some local parks with peoplepowered exercise equipment in Gulfport (R.W. Caldwell Park, Tomlinson Park), Largo Central Park, Clearwater’s Northeast Park, St. Pete’s Azalea Park and Riviera Bay Park. Disc Golf: Using the same scoring system as traditional golf, disc golf is played with a frisbee or “disc” on nine and 18-hole courses at parks in Clearwater’s Cliff Stevens Park, Oldsmar’s Sheffield Park and Largo’s John S. Taylor Park. Walk/Hike/Bike: The Pinellas Trail is excellent for all these activities, www.pinellascounty.org/trailgd

Volleyball: Join a club or pick up a game at Gulfport Volleyball Courts, North Shore Complex, near the Postcard Inn or The Toasted Monkey, Upham Beach, Treasure Island Beach or Bayhead Action Park in Largo. Skate The Ream Wilson Trail: When completed, this 11.5-mile paved trail (also called the East-West Trail) will link Safety Harbor to Clearwater Beach, giving in-line skaters the opportunity to skate from Tampa Bay to the Gulf. This seldom-used trail is a secret spot for in-line skaters who want to open up and unwind. Only 4.4 miles of trail are open, connecting Safety Harbor’s Bayshore Drive westward to the City of Clearwater’s Long Center. On the opposite end of the trail (to the west), a 1.2-mile section crosses the Memorial Causeway Bridge and connects the Pinellas Trail to Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach. Zippity Do Dah: Zip above the treetops at Empower Adventures Tampa Bay. The zip line canopy tour begins with a 60-foot-tall start tower that leads into five zip lines of varying lengths and a 200-foot suspension bridge – all with views of Florida’s natural terrain.

SWINGING TIMES

Tennis: Get your racket and explore Pinellas County’s local public and private tennis courts here: www.globaltennisnetwork.com/ tennis-courts/courts/city/4855-pinellas-park-florida Golf: You can play Innisbrook if you hit like a pro, but one of my favorite things is the executive courses around paradise, especially the one in Largo and Treasure Island Bay Golf & Tennis for tennis, golf, pickleball and classes.

WATER ADVENTURES

Enjoy surfing, fishing, canoeing, parasailing and these aquatic adventures in the water sports capital of the world! Boating: You don’t have to own a boat to enjoy one. ARTS PROFILE

In the new documentary, “Little Satchmo”, we discover the behind-the-scenes story of Sharon Preston-Folta, whose 2018 memoir captivated my heart. “Little Satchmo – Living in the Shadow of My Father, Louis Daniel Armstrong,” reveals her life with mother Lucille Preston, 98, who was Louis Armstrong’s love and Sharon’s father. Sharon is Louis’ only child, never publicly revealed. “This is a secret I could no longer keep,” says Sharon in the book and the documentary. “But now, it’s time to tell my story.” Sharon is both narrator and executive producer of this provocative film, started in December 2019. Produced during the pandemic using archival and b-roll shots of places where she, her mother and father lived in NYC, film clips of her mom and first husband dancing and a four-day shoot in Sarasota at Sharon’s house in September 2020. Producers Lea Umberger and J.C. Guest, director John Alexander and Reel South Production Company had great material to work with. Sharon’s personal collection of Louis Armstrong correspondence, photos, audio tapes and legal documents were accepted into the Library of Congress. The film is a Southern documentary film project with support from PBS Reel South, and it has already picked up high praise from Rolling Stone and other media. In July, the 50th anniversary of Louis Armstrong’s death July 6, “Little Satchmo” will have its world premiere in Europe at an Oscar-qualifying festival this summer (May 2021 announcement), and Sharon will be interviewed by Radio France as well. A U.S. debut is in the works. It’s not surprising that the documentary will first 30

be shown in Europe, says Sharon. “Since the late sixties, jazz has been extremely popular in Europe. In America, rock has replaced jazz as the innovative music. In Europe, jazz artists past and present are honored, and swing music and my father are still extremely popular in Germany.” What is a woman when no one sees that the blood of a legend runs through her veins, asks the documentary. That need to reveal her legacy drove her to write the book and produce the documentary. “When I got to a certain age in my 50s, I started looking at my legacy and realizing that this secret, I needed to understand it more, but my mother wasn’t forthcoming with information,” she explains. “In researching the book, I understood why all the stories excluded my mother, but why his only child? The will said he had no children. It became clear to me that unless I found my voice and told my story the way it actually happened, I would be erased forever.” Sharon’s mother met Louis Armstrong when she and her husband Luther were booked by agent Joe Glaser as an act Slim & Sweets. They opened for some of the great jazz performers of the day, including Louis Armstrong (who had the same agent). Louis liked them both and knew her family, so when she lost her husband to stomach cancer, Louis said after the funeral, “I am supposed to take care of you. And did.” Both fell hard for each other. “The first four years were filled with a whirlwind of romance and secrecy. Mom would travel far and wide to meet Louis; they also would get together when he was in town.” Louis’s wife, Lucille Armstrong, knew

about Sharon, but never acknowledged she or her mother. Sharon and her mother’s relationship was complicated, and at first, she did not want Sharon to write the book or do a documentary. “My mom, who passed last March, thought about him always, loving him was part of who she was,” says Sharon. “We depended on him and he was very much part of our lives, but when he died, we were each other’s only resource.” When my mother found out the will said I didn’t exist, she opened up about their relationship and eventually agreed to be videotaped.” Sharon hopes people will learn more about her beloved father, a serious artist and complicated man who loved both Sharon and her mother. “We were his family; he took care of us as if we were part of his public life. I want people to know he wanted to be a father, but he made choices to keep us a secret because of his fame and marriage, right or wrong.” ________ Pinellas County arts and culture mavens know Sharon Preston-Folta well as WUSF’s Senior Account Executive, Community Partnerships & Marketing. Previously, she worked for blockbuster NYC media companies (ABC Radio, CBS Radio, KISS FM) before relocating from The Big Apple to Sarasota in 2004; her mother joined her in 2006. A style icon and brilliant raconteur, Sharon hosts two radio shows on Sarasota’s WSLR: Town Talk Tampa Bay, a public affairs show that highlights issues affecting people of color and highlighting people doing great things in the community, and an arts/music show, Radio Reset.

front properties on the sand, there are two major drawbacks to those properties. First, when it’s time to relax and enjoy that glass of wine in the afternoon at your pool, the afternoon and setting evening sun in the west is punishingly hot. Even when inside those homes, shades have to be drawn on windows to keep the heat out. That eliminates the view entirely. Speaking of view, realistically, there isn’t really much to look at except the horizon to the west when living on the gulf.

It’s All About The View. . . As we meet customers interested in building waterfront homes, the common question is “where do I build to get a great water view?” Fortunately, here along the Pinellas beaches, there are no fewer than 13 municipalities that have residential properties on the water. Of course, there are the beach front lots facing the Gulf of Mexico for those families with large budgets. Then there are the Intracoastal lots that are fair priced and offer varying views along the water. Most customers I speak with realize that in addition to the high price for the Gulf beach

What about the intracoastal lots? At a much lower price, these lots offer views with “movement” of boats, watercraft, and of course dolphins every day and occasional manatees. Then too, you can have your boat in the back yard, ready for a fun cruise to a waterside restaurant or fishing. Better yet, most lots on the intracoastal have their pool and decks overlooking the water to the east, thereby allowing the home to “shade” the

important relaxing areas in the afternoon and evening, free of direct sunlight. That’s really a great advantage. As I stated in my other articles in Paradise News, there actually are many lots available along the intracoastal, and many opportunities to purchase a 60-year-old home to demo and rebuild. Many folks purchase the property now and tell me they are going to build in a few years. That’s fine, but they need to realize that inflation in home prices is a constant, and in three to five years, a new home will probably cost over 25% more to build. In 2020 alone, housing prices escalated 20.9% in Pinellas County. Our sales associates can assist in both the lot purchase as well as help in finding the right size home for you, with the amenities you want, at a price within your budget. HEALTH & WELLNESS By Ryan Baker, MD

COVID ISN’T THE ONLY VACCINE YOU NEED Without question, the COVID-19 vaccine is on the top of everyone’s minds right now. It’s becoming more and more available, and more people are becoming eligible for it. I’m optimistic about the COVID vaccine, and I recommend that every eligible person get vaccinated as soon as they can and from whatever reliable source they can. That being said, the COVID vaccine isn’t the only one you should talk to your primary care provider about, especially if you’re 65 or older. Our immune systems weaken as we age, making us more vulnerable to infections, and vaccines help boost our immune systems. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following vaccinations for seniors: • Influenza vaccine to protect against seasonal flu • Pneumococcal vaccine for pneumonia • Zoster vaccine to protect against shingles (recommended for adults 50 and older) I’ve chosen to stand on a soapbox this year about the flu vaccine. It has been overshadowed by COVID, and it’s important not to skip it, especially this year. It’s also not too late in the season for the flu vaccine, which some studies have shown can lessen the symptoms of COVID.

Dr. Baker is personable, an attentive listener, a true medical professional who takes the time to collect and analyze the history and current condition, and to move forward with a thoughtful roadmap to your health. He’s Florida-educated, having graduated magna cum laude from FSU. That and his Google rating led me to choose him as my doctor. He deserves all 5 stars. The pneumococcal vaccine is already included as a part of your annual wellness visit, so that’s easy to check off the list. As for the shingles vaccine, it’s important to note that it cuts the risk of shingles in half for people who receive it at age 60 or older. The CDC also recommends a tetanus shot, and I think this is especially relevant here in Florida, where we all run around without shoes on. And if you’re planning to travel out of the country, check with your doctor about which vaccines may be required or recommended. Once travel restrictions are loosened and we’re free to move about the world again, the CDC travel website wwwnc.cdc. gov/travel/destinations/list is a really valuable tool if you’re planning international travel. I believe vaccines are one of the most important medical discoveries of the past 100 years. Check in with your primary care provider about which vaccines are best for you, and remember that vaccines are a cornerstone of prevention, and prevention is the key to wellness. Neuropathy Breakthrough The most common method your doctor will recommend to treat your neuropathy is with prescription drugs. These drugs such as Gabapentin, Lyrica, Cymbalta and Neurontin may reduce your symptoms but are primarily antidepressant drugs. These drugs may cause you to feel uncomfortable or drowsy and can cause a variety of side effects.

1

Peripheral neuropathy is a result of damage to the nerves often causing weakness, pain, numbness, tingling, and the most debilitation balance problems. This damage is commonly caused by a lack of blood flow to the nerves in hands and feet which causes the nerves to begin to degenerate due to lack of nutrient flow. As you can see in the figure above, the blood vessels that surround the nerves become diseased and then they shrivel up. This prevents the nerves from getting the needed nutrients to continue to survive. When these nerves begin to "die", they cause you to have balance problems, pain, numbness, tingling, burning, and many additional symptoms.

Loss of blood flow causes nerve damage and pain.

The main problem is that your doctor may have told you to just live with the problem or try the medications. There is now a facility here in St. Petersburg that offers you hope without taking medications with side effects. Our treatments help increase blood flow that stimulate the blood vessels to grow back around the peripheral nerves. This provides the nerves proper nutrients to repair them. The amount of treatment varies from person to person. We determine this by doing a detailed neurological and vascular evaluation.

Dr. Rebecca Gibbons RN, DOM, L-AC Mention this add for a $30 Neuropathy Consultation (Normally $230)

Duncan McClellan Gallery has a new artist to shout about. Robin Grebe received her BFA in Ceramics from the Massachusetts College of Art and her MFA in Ceramics/ Glass from the Tyler School of Art. She has been an instructor at Rhode Island School of Design and the Pilchuck School. Grebe uses cast glass, ceramic glazes, and transparent enamels to create her monolithic and allegorical human forms. Originally inspired by Greek Cycladic fertility goddesses, Grebe’s sculptures seem both fragile and strong. To her, they illustrate the paradoxes of human life.

Registration is open for Creative Clay’s inclusive summer camp for children 6-12. Art Around the World will teach students about the art, culture, and customs of Scotland, Zimbabwe, Laos, and New Zealand. Children will study different cultures through a variety of media. All campers will have one painting per week exhibited at the St. Petersburg Museum of History at the St. Pete Pier. COVID-19 protocols, as stated on Creative Clay’s website, will be followed including mask-wearing indoors, frequent surface sanitizing and hand washing, and ample availability of hand sanitizer. Gulfport ceramicist Brenda McMahon celebrates the second anniversary of her namesake gallery on May 1. The year of COVID-19 hasn’t kept McMahon, head of the Gulfport Merchants Chamber’s art committee, down. While the world held its breath (or at least kept it behind a mask) McMahon launched Wednesday Taste of Art workshops at the gallery and helped overhaul Gulfport’s First Friday ArtWalk from a craft market into a juried show and sale of professional fine art. To celebrate the anniversary McMahon invites one and all to the May 7 First Friday Art Walk, where she promises “music, a guest artist, and an all-out, make some noise kind of party.”

ART NEWS all-too-often dismissed as amateurs, their accomplishments forgotten after their deaths, and their works frequently misattributed to their husbands, fathers, or male teachers. The trio of paintings includes those by Judith Leyster (c. 1600–1660), Rachel Ruysch (1664–1750), and Gesina ter Borch (1633–1690), all of whom were well known in their time. Judith Leyster was the first female master painter in the 17th century, and Rachel Ruysch’s work was sought after by all the courts of Europe. For more information see www.rijksmuseum.nl/en.

PET HEALTH

By Dr. Scot Trefz, D.V.M.

Pet cats do not hunt for survival but will kill and maim animals based on instinct. This predation can have a significant impact on rodent and bird species.

Create an Environment Your Cat Will Love... Comfort in their environment dictates feline emotional wellbeing, behavior and physical health. Indoor Vs. Outdoor Veterinarians advocate that domestic cats be kept inside for their health, safety, and the safety of surrounding native wildlife. Many dangers are faced by cats roaming outdoors: • Vehicles • Other animals • Cruel humans • Poisons, traps • Diseases

Creating an Enriched Indoor Environment Indoor cats can get bored from predictability, stressed and obese from inactivity, especially if it once was an outdoor cat. The best solution to prevent any of these issues is to give indoor cats what they need to thrive: • Keep a litter tray in a private area. Avoid a potential health issue by cleaning and removing eliminations daily. • Be sure to carefully place potentially toxic house plants. Lock cabinets with cleaning supplies. We know how curious cats are - they’ll try to get inside anything left slightly ajar. • Provide scratching posts or climbing

wall, balls, feathers, and other play toys. Some catnip can be placed inside toys. • Consider getting them a companion. At first, felines may be reluctant to welcome another cat, but over time most thrive on the interaction. There are things you can do to protect cats when outside. If you have a solid backyard fence, you can build an overhang at the top of the fence with piping and netting. If you do not have a solid fence, you can build an enclosed patio so Fluffy has access from the house. If you enjoyed this article, visit Dr. Scot M. Trefz, DVM – Tierra Verde resident and Medical Director at Bay Moorings Animal Hospital. ECO

By Nanette Wiser

Recycle, Repurpose: Pinellas County’s new and updated tools give all of us a chance to help Mother Nature. In the 2021 Recycle Guide, learn how to recycle or safely dispose of hundreds of items with the county’s Where Does it Go? search tool, found at www.pinellascounty.org/ wheredoesitgo. The Recycle Guide is available online at www.pinellascounty.org/recycleguide. Small Is Beautiful: Make the most of your small space garden with a new approach both simple and sustainable. Why not plant vertically? You can choose trees or tall plants, set against a wall, fence or terrace, placing a vertical garden with planting pockets within it for herbs and leafy crops. You can erect shelves for placing containers, and grow climbing plants up a trellis. Create planting towers by stacking planters and add hanging baskets. Embrace natural or reclaimed materials such as bamboo canes or natural branches to make a trellis and create vertical gardens or planters from wood pallets or other found objects. Garden For Health: The mental health benefits of gardening are undeniable; after all, if we can’t talk to our houseplants who can we converse with these days? Turn over a new leaf and explore therapy in a terracotta pot indoor or out. NYU Langone Medical Center’s horticultural therapist says that plants can reduce heart rate, blood pressure, improve concentration, elevate mood and create a serene space. Add a bird feeder to your backyard or patio and get double the health benefits from watching warblers and jays. It’s good for kids too. Children who grow up with green space have up to 55% less risk of developing mental health problems as they age, and digging in the dirt is just as therapeutic for little tykes as adults. Farm To Fork: So many of us have been obsessed this year with growing our own vegetables, or getting a weekly batch of organic delights. From Little Pond Farm to Emmanuel Roux’s urban farm, find organic farms at local markets and here: www.localharvest.org/ pinellas-park-fl/farms. Hydroponic gardens such as those at St. Pete’s Brick Farms and Boynton Beach’s Green Life Farms are growing in popularity. You can even buy biodegradable greeting cards with wildflower seeds from a California company, www.thoughtfulhuman.co. Tapping Flipper: Dorsal fins, splashes and the occasional dolphin leap are all welcome sights off the seawalls bordering the campus of Eckerd College. Now, with the help of a tiny supercomputer and a hydrophone, scientists and enthusiasts will be able to hear the chatter of dolphins in Frenchman’s Creek. Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Peter Simard, Ph.D., was over the moon when his Ph.D. supervisor, President of Loggerhead Instruments David Mann, converted his machine learning algorithm designed to detect bird whistles into one that also detects dolphin whistles underwater. A Haikubox Marine Station was installed off Eckerd College’s Galbraith Pier in February.

“Get Sirius About Your Future”

April 2021 Astrology Spring arrived when the Sun began its transit through enterprising Aries a couple of weeks ago! On the 3rd, thinking planet Mercury enters Aries too, accenting expression and imagination, however, impatience and sudden changes in viewpoints are likely. The New Moon in Aries begins the lunar cycle on the 11th with a powerhouse of energy promoting adventure and enthusiasm! We are quick now but changeable, a bit temperamental, and mainly focused on our own agendas as we charge forward! Let’s be aware of others’ needs now too and we can get a lot accomplished together! Venus in Aries doesn’t like to wait for love and can spend money fast! But on the 14th our love goddess visits the earthy, sensual sign of Taurus and is much more thrifty when spending the hard-earned cash! On the 19th we get to slow down mentally and be more deliberate in our decisions as Mercury also moves into cautious Taurus. The Sun also visits Taurus on the 19th just hours later bringing more determined and practical action as we finish the month. Taurus also likes the finer things in life, so a little indulgence is bound to happen, but quality wins over quantity now. Action planet Mars enters sensitive Cancer on the 23rd pouring his energy into the home and family areas of our life. Disagreements may arise but compassion and understanding can remedy almost any situation. On the 26th a Full Pink Moon in Scorpio lights up the night sky! This stimulating and intense lunation will bring to light what needs to be revealed in the most unpredictable way! Be ready for some surprising conversations and revelations as this powerful energy is activated and released! 60

Adventures in Paradise By Nanette Wiser April and May (and an extra hour of daylight) make it the perfect time to daytrip or vacay. On my spring bucket list is a drive to St. Augustine’s historic Lightner and Villa Zorayda Museums and the World Golf Hall of Fame; mermaid mingling at Weeki Wachee Springs with a stay at Plantation Inn on Crystal River; and sipping Wild Buck Whiskey and Mermaid Rum at Chassahowitska’s NJoy Spirits Distillery. Might even stop in Brooksville to zip through the treetops at FLGX Adventure Course. Want more? Gas up and go to these three cool spots.

ECO-TOURISM – FOR THE BIRDS In honor of Earth Day, we’ve embraced birdwatching this spring and hung a birdfeeder outside our window. More than 500 native bird species or strays have been recorded and more than 70 natural communities support this diversity from Apalachicola National Forest to Everglades National Park. Exclusive to Florida are the Florida Scrub-Jay, Mangrove Cuckoo, and Snail Kite. There is even a Florida Birding Trail website so you can explore each county on their website. www.floridabirdingtrail.com Here in Pinellas County, bird watching clubs, park treks and the Audubon Society can help you and your binoculars to a free and fun excursion. Best of show are Boca Ciega Millennium Park, Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, Brooker Creek Preserve, Caladesi Island State Park, Clam Bayou Nature Park, Fort De Soto Park, Hammock Park, Honeymoon Island State Park, John Chesnut Sr. Park, John R. Bonner Nature Park, Sand Key Park, Sawgrass Lake Park, Shell Key Preserve and Weedon Island Preserve. In Largo, John McGough Park houses an eagle, owls, hawks and classes/demonstrations. The Pinellas County Audubon Society hosts frequent walks with expert birdwatchers, including 4/17 and 4/28 at Fort De Soto Park where you can meet up at the Headquarters’ Flagpole ($5/vehicle). The St. Petersburg Audubon Society meets at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club on the 3rd Tuesday of the month; meet and greet is at 6:30pm and programs begin at 7pm and are free and open to the public. www.stpeteaudubon.org/2021-spas-calendar Gamble Plantation Historic State Park

VENICE BEACH I love the sharks at Mote Aquarium and searching for shark teeth at Venice Beach. Although the April 2021 Shark Tooth Festival is cancelled due to COVID-19, Venice is still the shark tooth capital of the world. Millions of fossilized black and white shark teeth end up in the Venice coast area, which sits on top of a fossil layer that runs 18-35 feet deep. The best place to look is south of the picturesque Venice Jetty as well as Casey and Manasota Keys. On the Venice Pier, you can buy a Venice Snow Shovel (or bring a kitchen strainer) to help you search for these toothy treasures, or just stroll in the water on the foot-high drop off ledge. Dining in the Venice and nearby Nokomis area ranges from amazing seafood (Fins at Sharky’s, Cedar Reef Fish Camp) to Florida flavors (Blu’ Island Bistro, Paradise Grill, Abby’s on Miami) and Café Longet for French fare. If you plan to stay over, check out the Inn at The Beach or Venice Beach Villas. Explore downtown’s oak and banyan-lined streets, old Florida feel, historic 1920s Mediterranean-style architecture, parks and arts scene including the Venice Art Center and Clyde Butcher gallery. Enjoy yoga on the beach, Friday historic strolls and concerts or Saturday’s Farmer’s Market and Carillon outdoor concert series. www.visitvenicefl.org GAMBLING ALONG Over the Sunshine Bridge on your way to Ellenton Outlet Shops, plan some extra time to visit Gamble Plantation Historic State Park followed by lunch at Woody Roos overlooking the Manatee River. Open Thurs.-Mon. from 9am to 5pm, the Gamble Plantation House (3708 Patten Ave. off 301) is one of the last authentic antebellum mansions, with unique Greek Revival Vernacular architecture and an ingenious freshwater collection system. www.gambleplantation.org If you love Florida fresh produce, stop in Parrish at Gamble Creek Farms, where you can stock up Sat.- Sun. from 10am-2pm on amazing organic veggies, fruits and pies. www.gamblecreekfarms.com ParadiseNewsFL.com | APRIL 2021

ENCOURAGING WORDS

By Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones

Are you putting your life on hold and waiting for the “right time” to enjoy it? The Ride of Your Life Doesn’t Start Somewhere Down the Road “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, “Wow! What a Ride!” ~ Hunter S. Thompson

One of my most vivid memories as a kid growing up in the 1950s pertains to the sofa in the family room of our home. The reason I remember this particular sofa so well is that my mom covered it with a custom-fitted, piece of clear vinyl, just like so many people did in that era. In the summertime, I would perspire profusely and whenever I sat on the sofa in shorts and a shirt my skin would stick to the plastic as if it was glued there – it was torture each time I would move or get up from the sofa. My mom’s logic was that this was an expensive sofa, so she was preserving it for greater longevity and enjoyment somewhere down the road and for years to come. Longevity maybe – enjoyment . . . umm, not so much. I don’t know where that sofa eventually ended up but I am quite sure some of my hide is still firmly adhered to it. That sofa experience serves as a perfect metaphor for how many of us live our lives. Perhaps it’s just human nature to put off fully enjoying the moment and whatever it entails until we arrive at that etheric place called “somewhere down the road” where and 62

when the time will be more appropriate to enjoy the experience. I am not talking about spending money we don’t have or doing perilous and unintelligent things with our possessions and/or our bodies. I am talking about living in the richness that each day offers in a manner that allows us to experience the abundant blessings of being alive today rather than postponing it until further notice somewhere down the road. The reality check for me is this: the older I grow, the more I know this moment is as good as it gets because it’s the only moment I have. So why not live in it as deeply and richly as I can? While this topic is not just about the wisdom with which we use our financial resources, I’ve known more than one person who postponed enjoying the fruits of his labor, squirreling away every penny he earned, saving it for a rainy day. This is not an indictment of saving wisely – it’s an indictment of saving fearfully in a manner that robs us of what joy the moment might bring if we only allow ourselves to be open to it. (NOTE: If you would like to explore this idea further I invite you to read my latest book, The Art of Abundance). Recently, I saw a 40-foot motorhome with a fancy boat in tow being driven down the freeway. A bumper sticker on it said, “We’re spending our kids’ inheritance NOW and enjoying every dime of it!” As I drove by I noticed that the driver was not an elderly man who had “paid his dues” (which I expected to see), but a much younger man than me. I thought to myself, why not – you have earned it; if you can afford it, you should enjoy it while you have the opportunity to. At first this mindset can appear self-serving and perhaps a bit stingy,

but taken in proper context, it is not that at all; it’s about being wise enough to know what you are worthy of and embracing it while you can. For some it may be about no longer postponing the motorhome experience or taking the trip of a lifetime until “someday” arrives. For others it may be about no longer postponing joining that hiking club, planting that garden, or enrolling in that long-desired art, dance, fitness, or computer class until such time when it is more convenient or practical. Seldom does that time ever show up. THE TAKE AWAY: Life is a gift meant to be fully used before we leave the planet rather than squandered by living small. In short, don’t return to your Maker less than fully “used up.” That’s like paying for a full day pass at Disneyland and then leaving the park before you get to all the rides. You have already paid the admission price for the ride called life, so be sure to get your money’s worth before you leave. What might you be postponing until you reach that etheric destination called “somewhere down the road”? Perhaps now is the time to stop thinking and start doing. Of course, that will always be the case because now is all there is and now is all you have. The quintessential question is how are you spending your “now”? At the end of your journey on this planet, whenever that day comes, may you be able to say, “Wow! What a ride!
