SPIRIT FREE DRINKS: Not drinking is more and more a trend, and non-alcoholic beverages have replaced cocktails that deliver nutrients rather than a sensation, as in a Virgin Mary. Julia Bainbridge’s Good Drinks and Julia Momose’s The Way of the Cocktail can help you define your autumn signature cocktail. Consider toasting and steeping barley, then infusing the liquid with baking spices, honesuckle buds and banana peel syrup served in a whiskey glass.

In addition to local liquor stores, check out non-alcoholic gourmet beverages at No & Low, especially their Amalfi Spirits and pseudo-whiskeys. www.drinknolow.com Check out Ritual’s collection of zero-proof, zero-calorie liquor alternatives, including rum, tequila, gin and whiskey.

Also trending are delicious and delicate non-alcoholic wines. We like TOST’s rose version with white tea, ginger, and elderberry and their crisp, almost peachy, slightly tart bubbly with white tea, cranberry and ginger. Woodland Honey Wine is a succulent honey wine with a blend of kombucha tea and wild Norwegian ingredients.

CANNED SPIRITS: Ready to drink (RTD) cocktails are all the rage. Craft brew cans, hard seltzers and boutique wine cans (included our beloved local Mermosa) tickled our gourmet fancy, but now it’s RTD season. We like Ramona Organic Dry Ruby Grapefruit Wine Spritz, Greenhook Gin & Tonic, Tip Top Daiquiri, Livewire Rocket Queen (rum, pomelo, pandan and cinnamon), Salt Point Margarita as an alternative to Truly and White Claw. Perfect for picnics and boating. Check out Norm’s Liquors for the latest concoctions.

Local acupuncture clinic is treating the untreatable peripheral neuropathy with incredible results.

Pain comes in many shapes and sizes. One of the most debilitating being the burning and tingling that comes with peripheral neuropathy. A disease that comes with years of shooting, stabbing pain that gradually ends in numbness, balance problems and on occasion, amputations. A disease that was once classified as irreparable.

Jan Z. of St. Pete was facing such a fate. “I stopped golfing. I wasn’t taking walks on the beach with my husband. I was living on gabapentin and antidepressants and everywhere I went; my doctor, the specialists, the pain institute, told me there was no cure. How are you supposed to live your life knowing that everyday brings pain and suffering?”

Peripheral neuropathy is a result of damage to the nerves, commonly caused by a lack of blood flow to the nerves in the hands and feet. This causes the nerves to begin to degenerate due to lack of nutrient flow. Most peripheral neuropathy sufferers experience a heightened sensitivity to touch making it almost impossible for those diagnosed to even wear shoes, much less enjoy life.

That is until she found Dr. Rebecca Gibbons of Achieve Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine here in St. Petersburg, FL. Dr. Gibbons and her staff have pioneered a cutting edge, medical solution to treat neuropathy, eliminate or greatly reduce its symptoms and give people their lives back. They’re doing it without the use of prescription medications and invasive surgeries.

“Acupuncture is incredible at restoring blood flow and stimulating damaged nerves preventing them from dying off, ” tells Dr. Gibbons. “We take our treatments a step further by integrating ATP Resonance BioTherapy™ which targets specific nerves in the body using microcurrent. ATP therapy is like watering a plant. This treatment will stimulate the blood vessels to grow back around the peripheral nerves and provide them with the proper nutrients to heal and repair. ”

The number of treatments needed to allow the nerves to fully recover will vary from person to person and can only be determined after a detailed neurological and vascular evaluation. As long as you have not sustained more than 85% nerve damage Achieve Acupuncture offers hope where there once was none. Three months later Jan Z. is thrilled with her progress, “I can walk barefoot on the beach again!” To schedule a evaluation call consultation and (727)272-3587 complete .
