RAMOJI FILM CITY – STUDIO REUSE Ramoji Film City is well known as the world’s largest integrated film studio complex spread over more than 8.0 sq.km. of land near Hyderabad. Over the years it has also gained popularity as a tourist spot and a recreation center. At the southern end of the complex are the studio facilities. These ten studios offer extensive facilities in film making technology available in the country. Multipurpose usage of Studios The facelift of studios is essential to make them suitable for holding multiple activities such as conventions, exhibitions etc. during the off season of film making. Conventions and exhibitions can be held in these studios and the surrounding open spaces with the support of ancillary facilities such as hotels, auditoriums which already exist in the film city, thereby optimizing revenue options of the existing structures. This has primarily been achieved with external elevation treatments for the studios. The external areas surrounding the studios have also been considered in the proposal. The intention is to capitalize on the large spaces in between the studios which can be used as spill-over spaces for exhibitions, and activities related to conventions such as dinners, banquets etc. These spaces are redesigned to provide respite from the harsh sun and at the same time group the studios together as per the need. Studios as Exhibition Halls The studios can be used in various clusters as per the exhibition size. The spaces in between will be designed so as to ease the pedestrian movement, provide comfort through weather shades and create interest .
Concept Corporate character Simplicity
Spaces between the buildings Well designed open spaces between the buildings are crucial for successful implementation of conventions and exhibitions. These spaces are important as spill over spaces for exhibitions. In addition, they can also host outdoor exhibits and performances. This can be achieved through using interesting paving patterns and street design. With all the modifications, care shall be taken that the spaces are accessible for trucks and service vehicles.
Clean lines
Central Plaza At the point where the existing road arrives at the studios is a central plaza. This plaza can have ticketing booths and temporary stalls as per the need to guide the visitor to the conventions / exhibitions.
Unique
Parking Ample parking is possible since large vacant land is available within the premises. A area surrounding the railway station is converted into a parking lot which can hold approximately 675 cars. Circulation / Accesses The central street flanked by studios on either side is the primary access for the visitors. This street shall be accessible for heavy equipment and large film set materials throughout the year, but will be kept used by pedestrians only during the exhibitions and conventions. Service entry especially during the convention / exhibition period will be from the rear sides of the studios linked by the service roads. Space Usage Multiple studios can be grouped together for an event / conventions as per the need providing optional seclusion through temporary external additions such as street shades, lighting, landscape buffers etc. The event organizers can select the number of studios as per the need to form the clusters. Such clusters can also enable multiple events at the same time. Streets for pedestrians The central street flanked by studios shall have shading devices made of materials such as tensile fabrics to provide the pedestrian a respite from the harsh sun. Being lightweight, these can be suspended from the studio buildings as and when required during the year. The same concept can be extended in the alleyways as well. Studio façade treatment

Pedestrian Circulation - Restricted vehicular access during exhibitions - Provision of shaded walkways
RAMOJI FILM CITY – STUDIO REUSE Alleyways - Average 18.0 m. wide - Covered by lightweight tensile fabric pieces for shade - Shades serve dual purpose of reducing heat as well as help reduce the giant visible mass of the studio
Giant solid mass of the studios can be cut down with addition of suspended shading devices. This can also help reduce the elevation treatments
RAMOJI FILM CITY – STUDIO REUSE Spaces in between studios - Corporate banquets - Outdoor exhibits - Design Requirements – Even paved surface - Sun / heat mitigation required

Materials - Creating a corporate identity through clean, simple finishes - Materials such as glass, aluminum cladding, tiles
RAMOJI FILM CITY – STUDIO REUSE Elevation Treatment Boulders – a characteristic of Hyderabad Elevations – The large mass of the studios is broken down by glass and aluminum cladding, the colors and compositions of which evoke the sculptural boulders of the region
