Take some time out and explore the Tweed/Byron hinterland. Heading north from Byron Bay, take the Tweed Valley Way, Murwillumbah exit from the M1, tourist route 40. Enjoy a meandering country drive to Crabbs Creek, where the new Northern Rivers Rail Trail starts and meanders through the Burringbar Range to the Murwillumbah Railway Station and Visitor Information centre located just 20 minutes north of Byron Bay. Turn into the Burringbar Village and you will discover an old-fashioned main street with shady Masterson Park on one side with plenty of free parking, 3 prominent War Memorials and clean, well maintained public amenities as well as a public BBQ and picnic facilities. You can get your supplies from the local shops across the road if you decide to walk or ride on the Northern Rivers Rail Trail or choose one of our cafés.

A Day In The Tweed

EAT - First stop driving north is Mooball, with the iconic Moo Moo Roadhouse Café. Check out the display of mad bikes, hot-rods and memorabilia in the gift shop, fuel, and home cooked or takeaway food. Check out the great food and coffee at the Mooball Post Shop, also next door is a large variety of Northern Rivers Natives on display. Sigi is the local pre loved store with some great bargains, worth a look.

EXPERIENCE - Tweed Valley Whey Farm House Cheeses offering a wide variety of lovingly created in-house cheeses. The Burringbar Roadhouse Gallery on the Tweed Valley Way has a huge selection of antiques and collectables. It is worth a stopover to check out the new arrivals and have a great coffee, and chat to the friendly locals.

SHOP - Burringbar has a variety of village shops including: Heath’s Old Wares & Collectables, a quaint post office, and a mix of village stores for your supplies and refreshments, on your walking or cycling adventure, tell all your friends The Northern Rivers Rail Trail is open for business.

EXPLORE - Take the M1 heading towards Murwillumbah, through the main street to west Murwillumbah. Follow the signs to ‘Crystal Creek’ & ‘Chillingham’ for a wonderful cafe and nursery at Crystal Creek Estate.
