Burringbar is an Aboriginal word meaning “place of the Burring”. (A Burring or Burrong is a non-returning fighting boomerang).

Start exploring the Tweed/ Byron Hinterland, by taking the Tweed Valley Way Murwillumbah exit from the M1, tourist route 40 and enjoy a meandering country drive to Burringbar, turn off Tweed Valley Way into the Burringbar Village. Masterson Park is home to the village landmark Burring, and is part of the Murwillumbah to Casino Rail Trail, just opened in March 2023.

Burringbar has an old-fashioned main street with a shady park, plenty of free parking and clean, well maintained public amenities including a public bar-b-que and picnic facilities. You can get your supplies from the local shops or choose one of our cafés.

Burringbar has a variety of village shops including Heath’s Old Wares & Collectables and The Burringbar Gallery two very different antique and collectable shops with both with an eclectic array of treasures and curios. The Burringbar is a well-stocked general store catering for all your grocery, liquor and coffee needs specialising in local and artisan produce. Enjoy a cold beer at the Burringbar Sports and Recreational Club, great meals, and Pizza, open for all local functions.

Burringbar is also home to the award winning Tweed Valley Whey Farmhouse Cheeses with their open air dining options you can enjoy a beverage whilst indulging in traditional farmhouse style cooking, gourmet cheese and salami platters finished with housemade gelato whilst overlooking the lush green pastures of the Burringbar Valley and the happily grazing, contented cows. Situated next to the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, great spot to stop for relaxation and unwind.
