08 Woodbine Casino Proposal
Project Vision Following WEG’s design principals as outlined on page 48 and 49 of the Woodbine Concept Master Plan, the project’s design and urban form reflects both its function as a multi-faceted entertainment complex and a premier destination within Woodbine’s urban fabric as envisioned in the Master Plan. Fully integrated into WEG’s vision, the facility provides a catalyst to future planned developments. Inspired by the local Toronto architecture, we have drawn from the timeless architecture expressing permanence through the use of natural stone, the transparency and elegant forms of glass and the precise beauty of metal. Our architectural composition using these timeless materials will enhance the public realm and create a sense of place within the City of Toronto. The impressive scale of the project’s urban form expresses the exceptional nature of the buildings’ entertainment programming. It also responds to the large-scale form of adjacent uses: the LRT stop [to the east], Woodbine racetrack to the south and the future entertainment complex to the east. Streetscape and plaza design complements architectural form, major boulevards are designed to accommodate significant car, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
