WHO WE ARE
WHAT WE DO
At Hord Coplan Macht, we strive for the highest quality of design, which through clarity of ideas, sensitivity to site and context, and integration of the dreams and goals of our clients, produces sustainable and meaningful projects. Our landscape architects and planners work within multidisciplinary teams to create memorable places, sharing our talents and experiences. Stewardship of the land and a passion for the built environment inform this holistic and collaborative approach to our craft.
Landscape Architecture For over thirty years, Hord Coplan Macht has been creating distinctive places to live, work, learn and play. Our award-winning Landscape Architecture Studio serves a diverse clientele across a broad range of project types including urban and mixed-use developments, community and campus planning, historic and cultural landscapes, park and open space design and healing and educational environments.
Who We Are
Grounded in the principles of good urbanism, the Planning and Urban Design Studio creates the framework for places with consideration to the interplay between the public and private realms. Our project types include urban infill, neighborhood plans, transit-oriented developments, town planning, campus planning and mixed-use developments. We believe a comprehensive understanding of the physical qualities of the site, context, infrastructure and ecological systems, combined with the influence of the landscape and the role of buildings, transforms a site into a “complete place.

Hord Coplan Macht believes that beautiful and inspiring learning environments are created through understanding the culture and mission of an institution, by balancing the visionary with the pragmatic, and through innovative and sustainable design solutions. The physical environment of a campus creates the first impression and instills lasting memories. Whether designing an overall master plan or a small memorial garden, as landscape architects we are in the unique position to weave together the varied and often disparate elements of a campus into a cohesive and harmonious whole.

HEALING We believe that all thoughtfully designed landscapes have the power to soothe and elevate the spirit. A quiet garden for memory care patients, a woodland garden at a nature center, or a sensory garden for a rehabilitation facility all foster emotional and physical well-being through their connection to nature. Hord Coplan Macht has designed therapeutic, healing and educational gardens for senior living, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities as well as hospitals, nature centers, special needs schools and universities. Our landscape architects bring horticultural expertise, materials and construction knowledge, and a contextual, sustainable approach to all of our designs.

Parks and open spaces are the tissue that connects a community to the natural environment, providing places to celebrate, socialize, recreate or find solitude. Recognizing the intrinsic qualities of a site, we have created contextual and ecologically sustainable designs for urban parks, school yards and play environments, community parks and nature centers. These public parks and green spaces provide safe, delightful and memorable experiences that are vital to our communities and cities.
