Axel Paredes Axel Paredes received a Masters of Architecture degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), concentrating on architectural design and emergent technologies, where he was awarded the Imre Halasz Thesis Prize. He holds an M.A. with Distinction in Architecture Theory from the Architectural Association of London (AA), and Masters in Advanced Construction Technology from Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM). He has been practicing architecture since 2002. He recently won a competition in conjunction with two other firms to design and build an eighty thousand square meter mixed use complex in Guatemala City. Axel has been Visiting Professor at the TEC de Monterrey, UDLA in Mexico, and Izmir in Turkey. He has been invited to lecture at different institutions such as TEDx, Harvard GSD, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), University of Texas Arlington, Veritas in Costa Rica and USMA in Panama. He has also been a Practicing Professor of architecture at UFM since 1998, where he is currently Director of the new Digital Fabrication Laboratory.
Ana Alemán de Paredes Ana Alemán de Paredes received a Masters of Architecture degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD), where her work was selected to be exhibited and published. She holds a professional degree in architecture (Cum Laude) from Francisco Marroquin University (UFM) in Guatemala. She has been practicing architecture since 2002 in a variety of projects such as residential, commercial, corporate and interiors. Her work has been exhibited internationally including in the 2006 Beijing Architecture Biennale. She has also been a Practicing Professor of Architecture at UFM since 2008, focusing in the use of new materials and digital technologies in architecture, as well as systems of urban ecology and landscape design within the architectural project.
Paredes + Alemán Arquitectos
In 2009 Axel Paredes together with his partner Ana alemán de Paredes founded Paredes Alemán arquitectos, a Guatemala-based architecture and design office. The office of Paredes+Aleman Arquitectos has received notable attention due to its constant innovation in design, by using both analogue and digital technology in the design process, as well as exploring the use of innovative and local materials in their buildings and furniture. Their work ranges in scale, from architecture and urban scale projects to furniture design and art projects. Their work has been published in DOMUS, Rara, London Design Journal, Perspectivas, Planos y Estilos, La Oficina, Prensa Libre, y elPeriódico, among others.
