Thunderbird Warriors join a Well-Deserved Trip to Singapore
Sultry door ladies made me feel truly welcome to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Casino
t was something that has been looked up to right after we came back from last year’s incentive trip to Hongkong and Macau in February of last year. The memorable visit to the two Chinese territories that included a tour of Asia’s Las Vegas topped by a visit to the humongous The Venetian and the playful discovery of Hongkong Disneyland that gave us the opportunity to be children for a day were things that should be done again. The memorable playtime propelled everyone to work harder and everyone did hit the ground running that resulted into another record-breaking performance, not only for Thunderbird, but also for our swine division Pigrolac and Univet – the vetmed group, as well as the poultry – Sarimanok and the budding Aquapro feeds for tilapia and bangus. We left for Singapore last January 26, right after Thunderbird’s highly successful stints in the 2011 Sinulog Derby and Chinese Derby (page 14) and in the 1st World Gamefowl Expo held January 14-16 at the World Trade Center – Manila (Pages 4-7), and our massive presence in this year’s edition of the semi-annual World Slashers Cup - the biggest ever with 279 entries (Pages 9-11), so the Singapore sojourn was a timely respite for everyone to loosen up and recharge our batteries. The visit to Universal Studios again made us act like young tots as we braved the joy rides, savor the architectural wonders of pyramids and the huge statues in the Land of Mummies, and get awed with the masterful clockwork of the actors in the Waterworld show that left me and a lot others, wet, literally wet.
We were back in Manila by January 30 and immediately on February 2, I was already in the Iloilo Coliseum exchanging pleasantries with Negros and Panay Islands’ top gamefowl breeders who were competing in the 2011 Annual Candelaria 7-Cock International Derby (story on Page 15). After the Candelaria, we visited several farms and interviewed breeders for the Inilog segment together with Tukaan’s Director Bong Sanga and of course the “Seedfowl ng Bayan” Doc Hanzie Dal (see this on Pages 12 & 13).
Finally, I am proud and happy to tell you all that the Thunderbird Palawan Challenge will be held on June 19, 2011 at the Royal Palawan Cockpit Arena in the town of Aborlan in Palawan, in which, one of the Thunderbird Sabongnation Stars Baham Mitra is the governor. The Palawan Challenge will be held in time for Palawan’s annual Baragatan Festival (June 17-20) and all the Thunderbird endorsers together with their handlers, gaffers and gamebirds will be in Palawan from June 10 – 13. Of course, like in the Boracay Challenge, there will also be a Bikini Open Challenge in Palawan. See you in Palawan.

Also in this issue are the activities held in Leyte and Biliran that included three bigtime seminars, the derby in Biliran which is the 3rd out of 7 eliminations of the P1M BGT Para sa Masa 6-Cock Derby, as well as the preparations for the 2011 BGT CUP wingbanding season (all of these on page 8) and the 2011 BGT CUP Stag series schedule.

WORLD GAMEFOWL EXPO
1st World Gamefowl Expo
THUN D E R B I R D
BRINGS IN THE CROWD By: Thunderbird Team
The 1st World Gamefowl Expo was a resounding success, but even the organizers would not deny the fact that Thunderbird has helped so much in promoting the event and later in bringing the crowd that practically gave the seal of approval for the three day event and the green light to do it again next year. n addition to the huge main booth that Thunderbird got being a co-presentor, the gamefowl industry leader also acquired 30 regular booths for its elite parade of endorsers; the Cockfights Magazine; Rizal Gamefowl Breeders Association; the TJT Cocking Academy; Bar on the Run and the Pigeon Racing showcase of Jimmi Lim. In the three days run of the World Gamefowl Expo, Thunderbird just kept the lines longer and longer as the guests visit each of the Thunderbird booths all wanting to get a wristband raffle ticket for a chance to bring home any of the more than 100 quality gamebirds from the Thunderbird Sabongnation Stars that were raffled off. Also waiting at the end of the line is the Thundebrird Bar on the Run booth that

provided refreshment, coffee and cocktails to everyone.
The massive main booth tells it all - 1 Nation,
The Thunderbird Power Models that cheerfully greeted the everyday crowd provided the beauty, grace and glamour, while the Thunderbird Power Dancers ignited and teased the spirits. Also sponsored by Thunderbird was an art exhibit by the Bacolod artists who calls themselves Bangis, whose paintings were simply awesome. The 1st World Gamefowl Expo was really a resounding success and it will surely be repeated again and again in the years to come with Thunderbird ever ready in bringing in the sabungeros.

At the Pawikan Gallera in Biliran during the 3rd eliminination of the P1M BGT Para sa masa 6-Cock Derby
Day Champions in the BGT Para sa Masa Biliran leg
he beacon of light for Philippine sabong continue to burn bright and warm as the semiannual World Slashers Cup posted a new record in terms of participation and attendance. The 6-day event staged from January 1723 also presented the biggest number of foreign cockers and breeders ever to set foot on local shores.
Throughout the six days of the event Thunderbird provided the entertainment to add flavor and excitement to the intense competition among the world’s finest breeds of fightingcocks. Again, the World Slashers Cup, as it has developed into, became a homecoming of Pinoy sabungeros from all over the planet, all joined together by their passion for the Birds of Mars.

n terms of gamefowl breeders and rooster population, the neighboring islands of Panay and Negros should be the number one.
The biggest cockfighting event in Bacolod is the Masskara Derby held in conjunction with the Masskara Festival in the month of October, while, that of Iloilo is the annual Candelaria International Derby, in honor of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.
Negros or habitually called just Bacolod and Iloilo in Panay are sabong capitals that have played a major role in the history of Philippine cockfighting.

Pao who is the grandson of veteran cocker-breeder Esting “Stinger” Teopaco, shot into cocking stardom after backto-back solo conquest of the United Gamecock Breeders Association’s Heritage Cup 9-Bullstag Derby in 2009 & 2010 followed by a string of victories including the Big Event 5-Stag Derby hosted by Gerry Ramos. Then we proceeded to Talavera, Nueva Ecija to witness the contract signing between Thunderbird, represented by Doc Erwin & Doc Claire Gamez, and one of Central Luzon’s most prolific fighters Nestor Vendivil of Oliver Game farm. Vendivil is a three time Breeder of the Year of the Gamefowl Breeders Association of Tarlac and is a perennial finalist in the World Slasher Cup with several runner-up finishes in his belt.
