Bible Journals By ParentLed.com How to use Bible Journal Pages We like to read our Bible story snuggled up together on the couch. After that we move to the coffee or kitchen table to do the journal pages. Suggested Use: as with everything else Parent Led, adapt for your use. Choose a journal page that will work for your child and have them decorate a cover for their journal. Read and Review. If your child is small have them dictate to you. Options ● Write down a summary of the story ● Copy a verse from the story ( no more words than the child is years old) ● Record your child's favorite part Draw and Discuss Allow the child some free time to draw. You stay with them in case they have questions or want to talk. After a minute or two ask them questions about their drawing and then relate it to the story and the child's life. EX. I like the way you drew David, you know he was not to much older then you are now. Do you think he was afraid? How would you have felt?... Prompt and Pray If your child is small have them dictate to you. At this point I try to prompt the child to formulate a prayer request based on the story. For example Noah was very obedient, would you like to pray that God would help you be obedient? Sometimes this works, sometimes they want to pray for a puppy everyday for a month. I am ok with this. We say a quick prayer together as soon as we right it down. I generally start doing this section before all of the kids are done drawing. They can always have more time after to finish their pictures. TIPS I like to only have out pencils while we work on the first section. When the kids are ready to color in their drawings then I take out the crayons, markers or colored pencils. Review the journal periodically. Especially note any prayer requests that have been answered. I wrote in some notes and labels when my kids were really little. This makes it more meaningful when reviewing. It is also humorous, especially when they draw Santa in the manger. Without the notes I would not be able to tell the difference between the sheep and baby Jesus.
